I don't think Ellington is worth a roster spot next year. Even when he did do some good things it was more of a fluke than anything. As a pass catching receiver is OK if he has space, but he just can't run the ball at all. Pass catching RBs aren't tough to find, RBs that can line up and run the ball for positive yardage are, and most of them can catch balls out of the back field. AE avoids contact like the plague and I think a weakness on this team at times has been physicality and anywhere we can upgrade to durable physical players we should.

DJ will be our #1, if we can make a deal that makes sense for CJ to stick around another year I think he can be effective in split duties or as #2. Taylor can be #3 or look for an upgrade his position.

I really don't think we could get anything for AE or Taylor in a trade, but I know we could do better with both of the those roster spots. I honestly don't even think I would be AE on the PS even owing 2016 salary. I would probably rather have Floyd line up at RB than AE because I think he could seriously be better.

His salary for 2016 is only $700,000. I'd keep him and hope he stays healthy. Good insurance behind DJ.

He's too affordable to get rid of unless you get something in return by trade and I doubt we can with his injury history.

The one thing with Ellington is I wish he could return punts. PP needs to be off punt returns, if Nelson can't return punts it sure would be nice if Ellington could learn to. He has good hands and ran back KO's in college.

Then he'd add value beyond situational RB and PP could forget about returning punts. We were basically just telling him ot catch the ball and get down or out of bounds anyways, need someone who might break one now and then.

Bring CJ back and have him and Ellington battle for the #2 spot. But, honestly I'd rather have CJ back. He was 4th in the league before the injury. Just not sure he wants to be a #2 back.

CJ said (just last week) that he wants to come back here. He also realizes the role he would play. Not sure if the Cards want him back or what they would be willing to pay.

Ellingtons history, guy gets stuffed 90 percent of the time, DJ,and CJ are a much better 1-2 punch.
DJ is our featured back going forward.

The only way I would keep Ellington on the roster is if he could prove to be an effective punt and kickoff returner. If he can't do that then I would jettison him. The $700,000 salary could be better spent elsewhere.

He averaged 6.4 yards per carry, he is going to make 700k, why is this even a question?

Agree; this is a topic not worthy of debate.

If he were making $2.5 mil, or re-signing him, then this is a different story. $700k is a drop in the bucket for a back capable of ripping long runs at any given moment.

We all agree DJ is the bell cow moving forward. AE is a good complementary piece.

all depends on what kind of contract you can get for CJ. If the price is right I'd take CJ 1000x's more than Andre 'glass' Ellington.

As opposed to Chris "glass, and on the wrong side of 30" Johnson?

Cards would be crazy not to keep AE and CJ. Like I said before, this 3 headed monster(if AE can stay healthy) would be scary. Just wish they played them at the same time at times.

This is stupid. Of course you keep him. Especially at $700k.
Exactly. He wasn't used much at the end because of the effectiveness of DJ. I like what he can bring in case either DJ, CJ break down. I know he can't be thrilled with his overall playing time, but he's not a #1. What he can bring though can be significant given the opportunity.

Why are we even talking about getting rid of him? Running backs are not worth diddly in trades, we'd get like a 6th rounder for him.

He is lighting fast, he can catch. He is a nice weapon to have. Does he get hurt a lot? No doubt, gotta keep his work load down, but he makes almost nothing, we'd get nothing by trading him. Chris Johnson isn't exactly iron man, and he is ancient in RB years and he is coming off a major injury. CJ is a guy I'm more wary of guaranteeing money towards next year than Ellington.

I bet they do that next season. Now that they know what they have in the Johnsons (and barring a sophomore slump from DJ), they could use Ellington in a bunch of different roles.

I'd rather let CJ walk and then draft a RB in the 5th round like Kenyan Drake who is also a good special teams returner, too.

He is signed till 2016 for under 750K.

It would be ridiculous to not keep him under this contract. At worst he can return kickoffs, and be a change of pace back.
