I just picked up the newest Pro Football Weekly and the guy who does the big Draft Guide (replaced Joel Bushbaum) said that there are scouts out there who have Kellen Winlsow Jr. rated ahead of guys like Bo Jackson. One scout had him as the highest rated player he had ever graded. These scouts point to his freakish athleticism (apparently his 3 cone drill time was faster than every wide reciever tested) and his obsessive will to win. Also, the article goes on to say that most GM's dismiss the "I am a soldier" tirade as just a kid who is so obsessed with winning that he couldn't handle losing 2 games in a row.

History shows that you can't go wrong with Miami players. He kind of strikes me as the ultimate Dennis Green project. Green was able to corrall tempermental but extremely talented guys like John Randle, Chris Carter, and Randy Moss.

I still think Fitz is our #1 guy, but if he is gone I am starting to think we will stay at #3 and take Winslow Jr.

Buchsbaum did he was really good, but in general I agree with you.

Mock drafts are pointless until a few days before the draft because things change so much.

The problem is people often remember the old drafts, that's why Pace was so ridiculed LAST year, he was a 3rd rounder in a lot of mocks but really moved up late because his broken leg healed enough to workout and he ran well and scouts moved him up. I read a mock the day before the draft that had us taking him at 37, and I read another that said he'd moved up quickly and was in the early 2nd round and maybe the first round on some teams boards. But everyone remembers the month old mocks that had in round 3.

One year Kiper had a safety from Cal named Marquis Smith rated #1 on his board preseason, by draft time he was taken in round 3 by Cleveland and had been the #4 rated SAFETY in the draft , let alone top player. Kiper's rating was based on play as a junior and offseason workouts, by the time his senior year and workouts were over, he was a 3rd rounder.

I posted this thing earlier. Winslow according to the consensus is the best athlete in the draft. All the Freddie Jones fans should let go. 3 down tight ends are extremely rare. Once every 10 years.

What is to correct with Winslow? That rant thing that ESPN ran ad nauseum is nothing the pros don't like. Hell, Ray Lewis does that every game and this forum seems to love him.

Ray lewis has proven he is one of the top defensive players, if not the best defensive player, in the NFL.

What Has Winslow proven>?

Dont get me worng, I think he kid will be great, but no one likes a loud mouth who talks a good game and hasnt proven a damn thing yet. Thats all. He is young, he will mature.

The problem with Winslow is he focuses on Winslow. He also turned on a his QB.

As for not being able to take 2 losses in a row, wait until he goes to a top 10 NFL team - he is going to have to endure many losses - how is he going to take that? How long before he demands a trade to a winning team or holds out or does a TO to force the team to dump him. WASTED PICK.

He was the best offensive player on that team last year. Anyone who thinks Miami was an offensive juggernaut last year, is wrong. This was not the typical Miami offense. His team mates did not have a problem with him. His coaches did not have a problem. He proved enough to be an All American on a dysfunctional offensive team. He is the highest rated non QB offensive player in the draft. Every player is a crapshoot. If you don't like loudmouth self centered football players, I am afraid the other guys are a vanishing breed. If the Cards don't pick him, check out the Sunday highlights next year of the team that takes him. What do the experts have to say about him to get some of you guys to back off of him. That is a small group you belong too. I would take Winslow over Freddie Jones in a heart beat. One of 3 immediate difference makers in this draft.

Will be better than Shockey. Think some teams who passed on him wish they would have taken him. I wouldn't mind seeing him go to the Cards. He is not my first choice but wouldn't mind it. We need someone who will add a spark to this team.

I think Winslow will be a great tightend, and if Fitz is gone by the time the Cards draft, would be very happy with him at #3.

The one downside -- he is represented by the dreaded Poston brothers, who never experienced a hold-out they didnt like.

Just for argument's sake. Why would Fitzgerald be more valuable to Cards than Winslow?

My argument for Winslow is as follows;

1. Does not come off of field on 3rd down, run or throw, lcreating more options and deception. Do you bring in another LB or DL to play run or NIckel back to cover?
2. Game breaker where most teams are weak defensively. Too fast for LBs and many safeties. Too big for any CB.
3. Tremendous downfield blocker for Boldin.
4. Negates need for star 3rd receiver.
5. Allows Cards to carry a blocking tight end , which are a dime a dozen.
6. Might be there in a trade down with Giants, Lions, Browns which would give Cards another pick or player.

 You're up.

Ok so you are saying you like Winslow? :D

You compared Winslow to Lewis or have you forgotten?

I meerly stated that Winslow has proven nothing yet in the NFL. Lewis certainly has.

You didnt address what I thought was an answer to your question (Paraphrasing) "....Lewis does it and this forum seems to love him..." B/c Lewis can do it! He has proven he is one of the best in the league.

When Winslow shows me that then I will have no problem with him talking trash. Gotten prove it on the field first! I think any veteren football player will tell you that as well, and Winslow too, if he runs his mouth like that in the NFL this year.

I think he is a great player and will be a great NFL player, but that doesnt justify him being a horse's ass like he is. When he shows me 'on the field' I may cut him some slack!

Scouts Inc certainly don't have his as the highest rated player among many others. Where did you get this Concensus from?!

It would not surprise me if Denny took Winslow especially if Fitzgerald is already taken. Denny said that he wants a playmaker and that Winslow was one of four (Fitz, Taylor, Mike Williams and Winslow). Remember that Freddie Jones is on the last year of his contract.

you're kinda forgetting that dg has been quoted numerous times as stating that he LIKES to run a 3-WR set. yeah, he also likes the two TE set, but winslow is not your typical two-TE-set type TE. 'specially not when paired with freddie.

look, i love winslow too, but i'm not certain he's the perfect fit for us considering our personnel (freddie) and our coach's offensive philosophy (3 wr sets).

Sounds about right to me
