Living in York, PA, most of my friends are a combination of Steeler / Eagle & even Ravens fans. After our bowling league finished up Wednesday, I sat with a whole bunch of Steeler fans at he bar. I was surprised to hear who their overwhelming choice was to be their coach - Dick Labeau. They feel he knows the team best & the transition would be seamless. Is Labeau even being considered?? He failed miserably in Cinci, but he really had nothing to work with & wasn't Akili Smith part of that trainwreck? Anyway, their priority list: 1. Labeau 2. Grimm 3. Whisenhunt.

Well, from the two choices I'd have to say both. :D

No matter who is chosen it seems there are going to be a number of people who do not like them. From managements point of view it is like the song that Ricky Nelson sang "you can't please everyone so you got to please yourself" Garden Party.

Someone on one of these threads objected to Whiz because the Steelers run the ball and we aren't made for it. I thought it was funny to read this post on a Steelers board:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Whisenhunt's play calling on 1st down this year makes me want Grimm as the new HC...

we are the Steelers... we play home games in Pittsburgh... not exactly favorable conditions for 35-40 pass attempts per game....

give me a former (and almost hall of fame) O lineman... one who is from Pittsburgh....one who will give me a running game.... make the game simple for Ben through play action fakes... keep the D rested....

Sound good to anyone else?

Huh, and I want us throwing more on 1st down.

I think that was me I basically said given the power style that the Steelers used when successful, I'm not sure they fit our personnel? Not saying Whisenhunt might not like to do other things, but in general Steeler success has been good defense, run the football, pass to keep the defense honest. It works very well when you have a good defense and a good run game, but I'm not sure we really have either.

He may very well like to do other things, but that wasn't where they had success in Pittsburgh. He got some of his reputation for gadget plays, and again those work better for them because when you run the ball that much, teams tend to fall for things like reverses, flea flickers and WR option passes.

I said I was wavering on Grimm for that reason. THe main reason I'm not sold
on Whisenhunt is probably silly, but it wasn't that long ago that Mularkey was the genius behind the Steelers success, then Grimm, now Whisenhunt. It just seems to me that nobody is quite sure who it is but they keep designating their assistants as geniuses? Mularkey's nickname there was I think Inspector Gadget because he liked to run gadget plays, just like Whisenhunt now.

I just don't know enough about the Steelers to be sure but it just seems so unlikely to me that they have so many wunderkind assistants on the same staff.

DeAnna does......... Well at least she knows how is coming and going

I hope you are just kidding and are not really ridiculing DeAnna. She is a true fan and a long time poster clear back to pre-ASFN days.

She is a travel agent and one of her clients is the Cardinals. She thus has a lot of inside info on comings and goings of Cards front office travels since she handles most of their business.

Kent Somers was on 910 AM this evening....around 6:45 PM or so....

He stated that if anyone is making predictions regarding who will be the next coach or is talking about front runners...they are speculating....including members of the media, etc...he said the decision has not been made and only a handful of people really know what is going on....and none of them are talking....

FYI....

nor should they...what is this a horse race??? the only things that this is going to prove about those who make it sound like fact...the media...is how their credibility is near zero and just making noise...their sources are the same source your are...and mine is......next thing you know they will be at the airport reporting on who just landed...pure fiction...when graves or one of the killer b's says something...take it that to the bank.

Not a freaking peep on this all day huh?

Of course not, because they are working on the contract details right now. Presser tomorrow before the first playoff game.

If I am not mistaken in his press conference Wiz was ask what style of "O"
and "D" he would prefer he said he would build his schemes based on his
personel. That's exactly want I would like to see from our new HC.

It's a bit like the new HC of Atlanta, who it seems was more in demand than Pete C.

The reason is what he did at a lesser school is simply more impressive, it's a little like drafting a Nebraska RB used to be, you just never knew if it was him or the ridiculous O line he ran behind, Ahman Green not withstandting..

It's one reason I have gut feeling Chow would be better but then again I don't know at all but to me your point is valid.

At what point could it just be the line or the players that put up the numbers and the system/OC/offensive genius isn't that genius?

Norv Turner lived off his Dallas days forever being labeled that from coaching the most talented offense perhaps in history.

Norv isn't bad but he's not what he was thought to be and it wasn't all him is all I'm saying.

You think he won't even consult with the others? That would ice it.

He went from hysterical speculation to statementy based on it.

Not you pile on with more commentry on his speculation.

I hope we hire a coach soon before everybody loses what little mind they have left.

Norv Turner is doing a very good job in Frisco.

It's just that he is a very good OC and lousy HC

For me, it depends on which half you're talking about.

That's not important. It just makes for great entertainment watching unsubstantiated rumors surface and people jump on them like they are in the ocean grabbing onto the last life raft. Just points out the power of the press and the lack of credibility from main stream media.

Yeah, I'm kind of being driven crazy myself. A lot of really bad things could be happening behind closed doors, but it could be a lot of wild speculation because no one knows what's going on. I'll wait until we get a new coach and the truth, such as it is, comes to light before I go crazy again.

See how long that lasts LOL
