"SI.com's Peter King reports New York Giants QB Kerry Collins could land in Arizona or Baltimore once he's released from the Giants."

That doesn't make any sense for us or Kerry, IMO.

Gary Meyer's (NY Daily News) made the same speculation.

I agree with you. First of all, Kerry was reported saying recently that he'd prefer to play out the final year of his contract with the Giants. (Of course, the obstacle to that is that the Giants may not want to use up a lot of cap space on "The QB of the Future-Not!")

Meyers speculated that Denny's reliance on McCown didn't seem all that credible and that Collins would be a logical addition.

I've been outspoken in my like of Collins. I definitely think he could help us. But I have to believe Denny isn't blowing smoke in his praise of McCown and I doubt the Cardinals can (or would) eat Collins' contract. And I don't think Kerry would come here in a backup role if he came here at all.

Collins ate Green's lunch in that NFC title game a few years back. Green has to respect Collins.

If I had my choice, Collins or McCown, I'd choose Collins.

Now, I don't think Green can pickup Collins unless he gives him the starting role. That means pushing McCown to the backup role after he said he's the starting QB for the Cardinals. I just don't see Green being able to keep face after say that and end up starting Collins. It's would also probably start a QB controversity.

So, to avoid both, I think Green lives with his choice of McCown.

If the Cards could find a way to get Collins and still keep control of things, I think the Cards could be quite good. They could cut McCown and go with a 4 or 5 year contract for Collins. Collins is not that old yet. Anyone know his age?

Have you lost your mind? Cut McCown so as to sign Kerry Collins to a 4-5 year contract. PLEASE GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEAD......McCOWN IS OUR STARTING QB........and he'll be terrific.

Kerry Collins is 32 years old.....he was terrible last year and in reality, his only claim to fame was a solid year in 2001.

Please accept the fact that Green truly believes that he has something in McCown and he knows his "onions" when it comes to QB's.

Peter King is thinking out his arse. After Josh's brother is selected in the 4th round and Josh has received such high praise, this would be credibility suicide on Green's part.

This is just typical speculation because the national media still believes that the Cardinals and Ravens don't have a starting QB. If we were the Giants, then a kid just drafted who's never played in the NFL (Eli Manning) apparently become a starting QB? I my opinion, if the Giant let Collins go, they will need an experience QB -- maybe they should pick up Collins again, or try Jeff Blake!!

No more retreads. Collins will not grow here like Josh will, Collins will be just one of the thousands of retreads that have come here and left. Enough old guys, we need the strenght and quicknmess that Josh can and will give us. In addition is anyone willing to pay this guy 4-7 million and screw up our cap for the next 4 years? On top of that throw him a bonus for signing(Only for sure money in NFL)?

Please ,Please no to Collins.

McCown is the starter; King the backup; and Navarre will be the third qb.
This won't change unless someone gets hurt.

Collins is an average Qb without a good O-Line.

But behind a good O-Line, Collins is suberb.

Bring him in, and he will crap all over us.

The Cards will have to carry his cap salary.

And with the Cards unpredictable O-Line??????????????????????

Collins was on a local radio sports radio show here in NY today and was asked about his possibility of coming to the Cards. He played it diplomatically and said he will look at all options and said there were a handful of teams that have expressed interest in him and would not say if the Card were one of those teams. He definitley wants to go to a team where he can start. His resume is pretty good too. He is only 31 and rarely gets hurt and has played in two NFC title games and a Superbowl. Having the inexperienced receivers the Cards have it might not be a bad idea to have someone with a little more experience here.

If he'd be willing to come in for a yr. to prove his worth as a backup, why not.

This is what I don't understand from the media outside of AZ. Why is it everytime a QB is going to be released they are assuming they will go to us? Or the fact that a lot of publication is ripping on us cause we didn't pick a QB! I didn't hear anything about the Raiders or the Ravens about their QB situation when both teams also have a young QB like us.

Uhh, Steve you just made me spill my lime-tangerine sparkling water all over my computer desk. I'd hurt someone if we cut Josh at this point. And I'm not his biggest fan either. But Josh for Collins???? NO WAY!

Are we really debating Kerry Collins? The guys is Plummer-esqu in his ability to turn the ball over at inopportune times and kill drives or cost points. For 7 mil I better get Tiffany Cufflinks, and Kerry isn't shiney enough for me.

Face it, until McCown proves them wrong every QB who is set free into free agency will be "rumors to be headed to Arizona"

Rather than sign Collins we might be better served by considering the guy he replaces, wherever he ends up. He wants to be a starter, so I don't think he'd come here, anyway. And if he did it would cause Josh to continually look over his shoulder. So if he signs with Oakland or Miami (two possibilities), Gannon or Fiedler might become available, and I think they are both better suited to being backups while Collins will probably end up as a starter somewhere. Blurb in NYC daily today...

I think it was Ralph Vaccarella in today's NY Daily News who mentioned that Kerry's agent claims that 4 teams (including the Cardinals) have called to inquire about Collins.

I still am not sold on this idea, but we ought to keep tracking this story.

McCown has not even gone through a training camp as a starter. He may look like crap compared to King. Do you give McCown the job if King obviously looks better? Why make the announcement to the world McCown is the starter? All it does is back yourself into a corner.

The reason Green announced that Josh is the starter was to give the Cardinals direction. By cutting Blake and announcing Josh as the starter, he basicly said, he's in charge. The young guys that can play are going to. All veterans should consider their jobs in jeopardy and better come ready to play or face unemployment.

I liked Josh's are strength, but after watching his backwards pass to Shelton I'm worried. Remember, he failed at his big college program and only succeeded when he went down a level. He has the tools. Is his head up to the NFL level for pressure and smarts?

Would I pay Collins $7M? No way. Would Collins go to the Cards if they gave him a fair shot at starting and paid him $3.5M? Probably. I think Collins is a better QB than you think. He's been to the Conference championship game, what 3 times? Once with Carolina? and twice with the Giants. That doesn't happen on accident. The Giants problem is OL. The Cards OL, while not perfect is much better than the Gaints OL.

Now Collins does have baggage. Isn't he the QB that made ratial comments?
Just for that alone, Green probably avoids him.

But, I have no problem going with Josh and King this year. If they fail, the Cards can draft a QB with their early pick next year.

But Josh has proved nothing yet in the NFL while Collins is an above average QB.

Just to stir the pot a little -

We got at least one on-the-scene comment from the past two minicamps that King didn't look very sharp compared to Josh and Preston.

I'm wondering if the drafting of Navarre might have represented "King Insurance" rather than to push Parsons, and that there's the outside possiblity that King's tenure here might be very brief and that Collins might replace Shawn as McCown's backup.

I'm all for that Jeff. I'm surprised Green signed King so quickly. I don't remember other teams clamoring for his services at the time.

Won't happen, I don't think because...

Green really does like McCown and this is evident by the way he has promoted his choice. Green has been very up front, he said he liked Fitz and when the time came he drafted Fitz. The Collins and Warners of the league want to start from day 1 and I doubt they would get that chance at Arizona. I like Josh McCown as our starter.

Doubt it. Green's going to want a veteran presence at the position, and having only McCown (few starts), Parsons (no starts) and Navarre (a rookie) as your three QBs is not very smart.
