Rhodes is an 8 year veteran, so he's got quite a few years left if he plays as long as A-dub. I can't believe this guy became a FA. One of the most underrated FA pick ups since IDK, Kurt Warner?

The Cards trade a 5th? rd pick to the Jets for Rhodes after Rolle slinked away in FA.

Yeah... Pretty weak on Mitch not to come correct on Kerry Rhodes. The scheme has been holding him back; he made a lot of money this afternoon. Does he sign a four year, $25 million extension if you put it in front of him right now and guaranteed $10 million?

Also, what kind of a super-bust is Rashard Johnson? 2 years in the system and he's benched for a guy who showed up 8 weeks ago. What a scrub.

He is just consistently below average. He was a 3rd rounder though right?

R. Johnson split playing time with the other guy. Its true, we didn't see him around the ball like all the other ball hawks on our defense, but he's serviceable. He's a backup that needs improvement for sure, so if he doesn't pick up his game by next year we should draft a strong safety. Make a rookie push Johnson for his roster spot.

Johnson and BRadley are my biggest disappointments so far this year. I never expected them to start, but to fail to make even a slight impact on games is pretty embarrassing, especially with the defense looking so good. Reggie Walker, James Sanders, Quentin Groves, and David Carter, all have flashed at times when they have gotten in the game, yet I couldn't tell you if Johnson or Bradley dressed for the game if I didn't know the roster so well.

I'm more surprised by Bradley. I mean he seemed to play very well in preseason, but for some reason he can't even get on the field on defense.

Yep. Which is why stressing about his lack of production is futile. He's a solid special teams contributor and with the depth and versatility of our DBs, he's an afterthought.

Huge game from Kerry. Love how he absolutely destroyed Celek on two straight plays, that was great. The stuff on the 1 yard line on the deep pass and then the sack fumble were obviously huge, basically iced the game.

Rhodes was playing out of his mind. I would love to see him locked up.

Right on target Joe! LSH is a minimum-wage guy at this point in this career. He doesn't seem like the sharpest knife in the drawer. As Brian Billick said during the telecast yesterday, if he straggles the out-of-bounds line on the kickoff he fielded at the 6 yard line in the 2nd half it's a penalty and the Cardinals get the ball at the 40 yard-line. Instead he stumbles around and manages to get tackled inside the 20-yard-line. Just like he replaced J.J. Arrington, he can replaced with a low-round draft choice IMO.

Kerry Rhodes has really improved this year as he has gotten up to speed with the Ray Horton defense. He is next up now that he has proven he's worth the money IMO.

To be fair the ball looked like it was going to bounce out anyway.

But yes. LSH is very replaceable imo. The rule change dropped his value. But I doubt an extension would cost much. He is a good gunner.

The Cards released Rolle because they didn't want to pay him a $4 million roster bonus.

We sure are a fickle bunch. I remember posts pimping Rolle the way they are pimping Rhodes now. Like after Antron returned two INTs for TDs vs the Bengals or picked off Eli Manning with a minute left to seal the Cards 24-17 road win over NY in 2009.

Anyone who still doesn't like or is on the fence with Rhodes needs to reexamine their assessment. People keep talking about wanting to give LSH a contract extension but Rhodes needs to be the next man up right now. He has a player option for next year and needs to get locked up before we give him that option to test the market. Wilson was out today and Rhodes took over the roll of intimidator with big text book hits in the middle, the flat on the failed TE screen, and text book tackle on the goalline. Rhodes can fit any roll you need him in Hortons D IMO.

Next man up on the extension list without a doubt in my mind.

True.

Kerry Rhodes just played one of the best individual games I've seen from a Cardinal defender in quite awhile.

Brilliant performance.

I don't know what particular good games he had with the Jets, but it's hard to beleive he ever played more physically than he did yesterday. He was a beast.

Clearly he's not, or we wouldn't have had to bring in two players to replace him (we had to trade for Rhodes because Johnson was so awful his rookie year that he couldn't be trusted to replace Rolle), both free agents. Again, Johnson has had two years now in Horton's system and got easily replaced by a street free agent who was signed in like June or July (don't think he was around for OTAs), plus we used draft capital on Bethel for the same position.

Four years into a third-round pick's career, he better have a starting job or be a major sub-package contributor, or he's probably a bust. That's just how the NFL has to work; third round picks are golden because they're super-cheap and you can develop them into core players.

Andre Roberts, Jameel Flemming, and Early Doucet are all third-round picks who IMO have developed well. A lot of people here would categorize Doucet as a disappointment or bust. But Rahard Johnson is just fine because...?

It's very, very likely that we'll have found 0 players from the 2009 draft that were worth a second contract. Only Beanie, Toler, Johnson, and LSH remain from that draft class four years in, and three of those guys are deep depth players right now.

I don't understand the rule interpretation. Billick, as I understood it, was saying, if he had straddled the ball with one foot in and one foot out of bounds, when he picked it up it would have been considered an out of bounds kick; ball at the 40.

Wouldn't it have been player in posession of ball is out of bounds at the spot he was out?

I think there is a rule that if a player is partially out of bounds when fielding the kickoff, it's considered an out-of-bounds kick and penalized as such. That's what Billick was saying. LSH should have known that since his primary job is kickoff returns.

Yeah, is that really the rule? Seems kind of fishy to me. And, would the replacement refs really know that rule and call it correctly?

I don't have an issue with LSH on that kickoff -- it looked like it was going out, so he let it drop and it managed to just stay in, and then he picked it up and got what he could out of it.

I didn't know the rule either until last year. Can't remember the game but it happened and the announcers explained it.
