Anyone who still doesn't like or is on the fence with Rhodes needs to reexamine their assessment. People keep talking about wanting to give LSH a contract extension but Rhodes needs to be the next man up right now. He has a player option for next year and needs to get locked up before we give him that option to test the market. Wilson was out today and Rhodes took over the roll of intimidator with big text book hits in the middle, the flat on the failed TE screen, and text book tackle on the goalline. Rhodes can fit any roll you need him in Hortons D IMO.

Next man up on the extension list without a doubt in my mind.

It should not be a choice of one guy or the other. We need to lock up the core of what makes us the team we are and hope to be. Up until recently we have been a team slow to lock up anyone. I hope we continue on the path of locking up our best players like Campbell, Dockett, Fitz and the upcoming group of really good defenders. Do not rest on your laurels DG or who ever makes these decisions. Winning is fun and losing sucks.

He should get DPOTW.

Serious. No defensive player was as impactful in his game as Kerry Rhodes was.

CC last week, KR this week.

It probably wont be, but it should be.

Clearly he's not, or we wouldn't have had to bring in two players to replace him (we had to trade for Rhodes because Johnson was so awful his rookie year that he couldn't be trusted to replace Rolle), both free agents. Again, Johnson has had two years now in Horton's system and got easily replaced by a street free agent who was signed in like June or July (don't think he was around for OTAs), plus we used draft capital on Bethel for the same position.

Four years into a third-round pick's career, he better have a starting job or be a major sub-package contributor, or he's probably a bust. That's just how the NFL has to work; third round picks are golden because they're super-cheap and you can develop them into core players.

Andre Roberts, Jameel Flemming, and Early Doucet are all third-round picks who IMO have developed well. A lot of people here would categorize Doucet as a disappointment or bust. But Rahard Johnson is just fine because...?

It's very, very likely that we'll have found 0 players from the 2009 draft that were worth a second contract. Only Beanie, Toler, Johnson, and LSH remain from that draft class four years in, and three of those guys are deep depth players right now.[/QUOTE]

1-While Doucet hasn't grown into the role most would have liked him to, I have a hard time believing the majority on this board believe him to be a bust. Personally, I like him in a reduced role, but also think he needs to do better making the most of every opportunity (all Sunday).

2-I didn't like the 2009 draft then and it is looking worse every day. I think we have gotten value out of LSH and Wells which is a positive, but I don't believe any of those players need to be re-signed either. Johnson has been a huge bust and Toler got hit with the injury bug. Really disappointing.

There's no bigger fan of Early Doucet than I. The Cards drafted Andre Roberts and then Michael Floyd, so apparently the Cards don't like him as much as I do. I like him in his role, although I think that the Cards imagined more from him when they drafted him in the third round. It just didn't quite happen. But I think they've gotten good value from Doucet, and they signed him to a good contract.

The 2009 draft might just have been poor overall. Stafford has been good, put probably hasn't lived up to his draft position. A lot of solid contributors in the first round, but a TON of busts and not a whole lot of marquee guys. Second and third round was even worse.

I plan to give it a once over today to look at it overall because it is rare, even for our scouting dept :), to miss so badly.

He's played like a pro bowler before but that game was all pro level.

I hope they get it done and I'm actually having faith in the club these days to get these things done.

Man oh man is this D thrilling and fun to watch.

They are indeed.

Mid-way through the 4th quarter I realized I didn't have a knot in my stomach and that I was actually enjoying watching them. It was pretty sweet. Thank you Horton and thank you Birdgang,

People on the game thread were still panicking well into the 4th quarter but I was pretty confident because you could see Vick was tired of getting hit.

I was there, and really wasn't confident until maybe mid-way through the 4th quarter. We've been so conditioned as Cards fans to expect the implosion. Hopefully a few more performances like yesterday will change things for the better long-term.

Those 2 hits on Celek were nuts, back to back... I almost felt bad for him... almost.

And I dont know about you guys, but I've watched hit and fumble return like once per hour since the game and I keep smiling. Anyone know if there is a clip out there with our local radio guys calling the play?

Rhodes has been a playmaker since he came here. Yesterday was something special though.

Would love to see him extended.

The Cards released Rolle because they didn't want to pay him a $4 million roster bonus.

We sure are a fickle bunch. I remember posts pimping Rolle the way they are pimping Rhodes now. Like after Antron returned two INTs for TDs vs the Bengals or picked off Eli Manning with a minute left to seal the Cards 24-17 road win over NY in 2009.

Wasn't Rolle also in the last year of his rookie contract where his salary was incredibly high. Based on what the Cards did end up offering him they didn't cut him loose offer 4 mil. I say slinked because he left his team mates, the beginning of the birdgang group for a little extra coin.

His right to grab the extra coin and my right to dislike him for it.

As far as fickeld fan base, I don't consider myself one of them. I enjoyed Rolle's ability to return interceptions and make some plays but hated his freelancing and how many times that cost us.

I had watched some of Rhodes games as a Jet and was more than happy he was the upgrade to Rolle.

I don't know what particular good games he had with the Jets, but it's hard to beleive he ever played more physically than he did yesterday. He was a beast.

He had some games for the Jets where he blew people up as well. That's why I was more than happy when the Cards traded for him.

He should get DPOTW.

Where I disagree is that DWash had one heck of a game as well. I still vote for Rhodes first but wouldn't argue if DWash got the honor.

Fully agree with you and Dems. I wasn't experiencing premature celebration but I wasn't nervous about the outcome.

I'm more surprised by Bradley. I mean he seemed to play very well in preseason, but for some reason he can't even get on the field on defense.
It may not be due to anything wrong with Brad and more to do with what's right with Paris.

Also - I agree with ajcardfan - it was the most physical I've ever seen Kerry play.

I can't agree. The Cards told him they wouldn't pay him what they originally contracted for and the Giants said they would pay him a lot of money. You'd have to be an idiot to stay with the team low balling you unless you were an icon in that particular city and you were going to get $80 million instead of $90 million and your statue outside the stadium.

THIS ONE IS FOR YOU KOC. TIM WE DID IT.
Rhodes had an excellent game. He sacked, layer the lumber, saved a td, created another and Vick will have him in his nightmares. As for Rhodes being physical, he always had been as far back as I remember and if I'm not mistaken didn't he hit Anquan on that infamous hit in NJ?

Rhodes hit him but it was Eric Smith with the helmet-to-face shot...so to answer your question - yes he did.
