Here is my idea of our offseason centering around KG.
We trade Shawn Marion, Kurt Thomas and #4 for Kevin Garnett. Possibly some small fillers if Minnesota wants to ditch a bad contract for James Jones and Eric Piatkowski.
Marion 16M$ (expiring in 2008 or player option for 2008-2009)
Thomas 8M$ (expiring in 2008)
Jones 3M% (expiring in 2008)
Piatkowski 1.5M$ (expiring in 2008)
#4
for
Kevin Garnett 22M$ (expiring in 2008 or player option for 2008-2009)
Mark Blount 6M$ ( expiring in 2010 )
To make it better for Minnesota we could take Jaric instead of Blount.
Then we trade #24 and #29 to get Al Thornton or Thaddeus Young if necessary, possibly combined with a future pick.
Sign Grant Hill for the Veteran Minimum probably.
Keep Marcus Banks, why? Because he will have a MUCH easier time with Kevin Garnett around. Basically we will always have either Steve Nash on the floor or Kevin Garnett to run the offense.
You would also have Grant Hill who is a playmaker and Boris Diaw if he works his ass off in the offseason...
and there in lies the rub.
sorry, i stop taking this idea seriously once we have to depend on diaw to stop being french and give an ish, and grant hill to be a play-maker from his spot behind the scorer's table.
at this moment in time, i'm not ready to jump ship on the current suns roster. trade/drop j jones (the lesser), sean marks (god love him, he's the best paid fan in the nba) and perhaps marcus banks (who i believe could be an asset if he realizes he's a better defender than scorer). get a big guy, a point guard and anybody else who genuinely cares about trying their super bestest in every game.
with that, you get the same suns team that feels robbed of a chance this year, which makes them hungrier next year. that notwithstanding, you now have a team that feels confident and comforted in the knowledge that people believe in them and their abilities, even if things didn't swing their way.
i don't know, maybe i'm having the ultimate "pollyannna" moment but nothing about these games made me think we couldn't win with exactly the team we have now. i truly believe that avoiding the "buy high, sell low" panic that comes naturally after any kind of loss will end up being a step forward for the suns.
i will now sit back and wait for the onslaught of contemptuous posts for my radical idea of not trading everyone after a loss.
