Yep he definitely has to work on that. Obviously if the tackles weren't beaten like a drum on every pass play it would help.

I think the thing is he's not only essentially starting fulltime for the first time, he's doing it on an entirely different team, new coach, new receivers. That's why not having a normal offseason was so bad for him.

At least with Rodgers he was with the Packers the whole time so he knew the system and the players before he took over.

But obviously if Kolb of the last 2 games is the real Kolb, it's going to be a problem.

I cant believe we are comparing Kolb to Rodgers ??? o_O Maybe Plummer or even Romo but Rodgers???

Kolb is just part of the problem. Our defense's inability to make plays looms just as large if not larger.

But we knew that about our D--because they lack playmakers. We were told that the problem with the D wasn't the personnel, it was the system. What poppycock.

On the other hand we were told that what was holding back a good offense was the black hole at the QB position. So either we bought a pack of magic beans in Kolb that are in fact just limas, or there's a structural problem with the offense that needs outside help.

We put up--what?--12 points on the Seahawks! 12 points!

Cam Newton is already a better quarterback when I thought he could not throw or make reads coming from that Auburn offense?

always wanted Hasselback. thought this team needed a leader on O. he's one of the few QBs with major success in the league and has been very solid for a pretty banged up Titans team... and we wouldn't have had to give up a promising young corner and a 2nd round pick.

kolb... yup, the more tape people get on him, the worse he looks. that ain't good.

Kolb isn't the problem, just like Peterson isn't the problem on defense. Both aren't playing up to their potential because they are having to trust vet players who hang them out to dry while also trying to adjust to starting in the NFL. Kolb doesn't trust his offensive tackles (who can blame him) or his complementary wide receivers. Peterson will start to lose trust in his safety help, and will play off deeper because of the lack of a pass rush.

Our problems on this team are

Rod Graves
Offensive Tackles (LT to be precise. I could tolerate Bridges on the right side.)
OLB's (hell you could argue that we just need a nickel pass rush)
Secondary experience and understanding the coverage schemes.
Overall leadership from the players.

This is what needs to be fixed for this team to be a good team.

Who told you this? It's always about 80% talent, 10% scheme, and 10% effort.

On the other hand we were told that what was holding back a good offense was the black hole at the QB position. So either we bought a pack of magic beans in Kolb that are in fact just limas, or there's a structural problem with the offense that needs outside help.
The offense is fine structurally. See Warner, Kurt from 2007-2009.

Part of that is on Kolb. Part was we did not have an NFL caliber running back that day. Another is that we have a bunch of 3/4 WR's masquerading as compliments to Fitz. It's the sum of many things, not just Kolb struggling but he's the QB so he gets the brunt of the blame.

For what it's worth this team is basically the same as last year's except we have the 20th or so best quarterback play instead of the 32nd. We're pretty close to the 2009 version of the Cards as well except we have that same 20th best quarterback instead of a top ten QB. That's the difference between ten wins and the five we got last year and the seven we will probably end up with this season.

Oh I only think we read that Davis was the problem last season and that the new DC would fix everything about a 100 times this offseason.

Duckjake, it must be nice to at least have a college program that actually has leadership at head coach. I have Whisenhunt AND Stoops.

I pray that neither sees 2012 at the helm

Hiring that guy from Boise State was sheer genius. The Longhorns can't block 'em so they trick 'em. Just an unbelievably creative college OC.

Thank God we gave up DRC, turned a position of strength (CB) into a total weakness, and in addition gave up a 2nd round pick and a huge contract for Kolb.

This is the real concern. If, as the apologists claim, Kolb needs to adjust to a new system shouldn't he be getting progressively better instead of progressively worse?

He's very predictable right now. So it's probably getting easier and easier to game plan for him as more Kolb film comes out. This seems like something that's gonna be a challenge for him to try and keep ahead of. Not only keep learning the new offense, but at the same time make adjustments for what happened the prior week and try to become less predictable. No wonder Warner keeps reminding us it takes a full year to excel in a system.

There's a couple things that have me concerned that are still question marks. We know that to be an elite QB, you have to master timing routes with your receivers. So far, Kolb only feels comfortable throwing to receivers that are already open (except for Fitz of course and short yardage). You can't win like that. I know it takes time to develop. But we haven't seen a glimmer of it yet. We'll have to wait and see if he has it in him or not.

The other thing that has me worried is how he's staring down receivers. I admit I haven't been watching real close for it. But so far, I have yet to see Kolb look off a defender. That's probably a bad sign. But we'll see.

I think the biggest problem is that are coaching staff is full of not smart people. We are way behind all the good football teams. All the good football teams know how to run the a screen. I don't care if Beanie doesn't have good hands, he should be able to catch a dinky pass, that is not an excuse. We need to know how to run a screen pass. Next all the good teams know how to use the TE. Look at the Pats. They can switch anybody out at TE and they will thrive. We have talent at tight end, but we do not use them effectively. Since Whiz loves to throw in situations where we probably should run, we should become effective in running screens and passing to TEs. Watching our team is like watching the average person playing Madden(Being very predictable)

I was never the guy to talk trash about the coaches up until now. I haven't seen any type of improvement in how we run the offense since Warner. The only way we score is off big plays. Maybe we should worry about getting first downs, moving the ball down field, eating the clock, and actually controlling the game! We have no small game. You can obviously see that in the last couple weeks in the last minutes of the game.

amen. Kolb does not trust this offensive line at all and for good reason. I was yelling at him at the beginning of the game of a couple plays and then the commentators would correctly point out that he was running out of the pocket instead of stepping up into it. But the commentators kept going on about his lack of a pocket presence even when it was clear the offensive line was giving him no time. Our tackles in particular have got to be the worst in the NFL at least on passing downs. The offensive line looked better than the running game today, but I think most of the credit for the running success today has got to go to Beanie Wells. One of my complaints about Wells has been that he goes down too easily, but he was running really hard today and getting a lot of yards after the initial contact. It's a shame Whis didn't go to him on a couple more plays.

I don't think it's fair to expect Kolb to beat Kurt Warner at this point, and frankly I don't think Warner would look much better. Poor pass protection and no pass rush are 75% of this team's troubles. We'd be 4-0 if we were just a little bit better in these two areas.

I would agree with most of this but I think a big part of the problem on the timing is they require the QB has the time to make the required throw. The problem is more often than not he doesn't and he starts moving and that screws the timing up. Now he's getting happy feet so that makes it even worse but it's understandable WHY he has happy feet the pressure is there on almost every play.

There was one play yesterday where the announcer said Kolb stepped up for no apparent reason and got sacked. If you saw the replay there were 3 DL's all who had made penetration 2 were inside one was to his right. He didn't see anybody open, I think he probably should roll left but instead he tried to step up and got hit. That's a sign of a QB who no longer trusts his OL.

The announcers were saying Kolb backing up screwed up the angles for the OL to block on but he wasn't backing up for no reason he was backing up to avoid the latest guy to beat Brown or Keith.

The big concern was as Duckjake said yesterday, the pass blocking got better with Bridges in there, but Kolb continued to struggle. He's got to learn when there is time, you gotta do something with it, you can't be worrying about pressure when it's not actually there. Easier to say than do but the tackles are going to probably suck all year so he's got to get better at that.

It's very simple the guy is skittish right now because he is getting hit a LOT be use our terrible line still can't block! People complain he is missing open receivers... Well you kind of need more than a second to find them before you have huge defenders barreling down on you! This team and Kolb will look a million times better if they ever learn how to block or get some damn guys in here that know what the he'll their doing! Kolb is the least of our worries right now!

Ugh. You just made me realize something. Not only do we not know what we have in Kolb. But we won't know until the day comes that he not only has time to throw, but feels safe enough with the protection to stay in the pocket. That day could be a long way away. Who knows? He could be great once given some time. But there's a chance we might never find out. If we keep losing and Kolb never gets comfortable in the pocket, they're gonna have to pull him at some point. How frustrating would that be?

My thing is I watched Skelton last year and this preseason and anybody that actually thinks he'll be better than kolb I think is deluding themselves.

Bartel finished up the preseason nicely but earlier on had issues, that said I think right now he's better than Skelton. So it's going to take a lot for Kolb to get pulled.

But Kolb absolutely has to do a better job dealing with the pass rush and finding other guys. It's not all his fault but he's got to do more to fix the problem because it's pretty unlikely the tackles are going to magically get better they are what they are.

It's funny that this coaching staff actually thinks the O-line they have assembled give any QB a legitimate chance to succeed. Kolb will probably be mediocre and beanie will get hurt behind the line and both will end up leaving and we will still blame everything but the OLINE that has stunk for years and years! Kurt gave us a miracle run with HIS great play and deluded the higher ups into believing Whisenhunt is a great coach!
