Forgot to mention Kolb completed almost 67% of his passes

Kolb's YPA was a whopping 11.4

On the radio, I think it was Wolfley, said the Cards are trying to work with Kolb to get him to step up into the pocket when in the shotgun. Said it would help out the tackles in pass protection.

I think during training camp I heard on the radio that Kolb was used to taking a deeper drop with the Eagles than what the Cardinals like.

I think they said that the Cardinals tackles are trained to push the rushers out past the QB while he steps up in the pocket.

It wouldn't surprise me if Kolb could have easily reverted back to what he knew or was comfortable with once the bullets started flying.

It will still take a while for him to become acclimated to a new system.

Kolb was pretty darned impressive and some of the throws he made to beat blitzes...well, the throws were nice but the recognition was really good too. Fantastic start.

Cards are the class of the West after week 1.

18 of 29 309 yards and 2TD's..Zero Int's and a QB rating over 130.00

ARE YOU KIDDING ME? With that kind of pressure?

I know its only one game. But in all seriousness he should get better as the season goes along and he is in this O longer.

You have to remember he just turned in that performance after what 5 weeks work with the team?

You have got to be stoked about him so far, granted it's just one game but I'm stoked, very much so.

I'm not going to quibble with him doing whatever he wants to do with a rating over 100, whatever he did, worked.

:raccoon: The way he played and the stats he got with the o-line collapsing almost 80% of the time, I am impressed! Can't wait to see how he does next week!

Our oline played well, Kolb welcomed and beat the Blitz like Kurt, but embraced the run game unlike Kurt. We need more run game reps to improve and reduce penalties as a team. balance worked just like Lombardi always said. Thank you Whiz and Miller for calling plays like you have a brain. after the 3 pass, penalties and out on the goal line after Beanie went 2 for 16 yards and a TD on the opening drive.

Play action worked like a real team cause the kittys were scared of Beanie Wells, here kitty kitty kitty. they were not scared of Fitz, while double teamed. but take away the double team and Fitz rules this game with Kolb.

We have not seen an iota of the playbook. But Kolb needs to wear out any defense counting beans, the bean screen plays. I mean Kolb rarely looked first for beanie and He rarely kept the ball until his 3rd option, beanie. He was open just like preseason. We left 100 yards in screens on the field. Miller needs to game plan more tosses to Wells as the first or 2nd option. To help Fitz and the WR's later in the game/season.

Our oline is a beast if given a fair chance with a balanced game plan. Espn flashed that we were #1 in pass attempts and percentage since 2008! 64.8 % of the time, some games we were a lot more than that, pasing every down with 3 score leads! Kolb would eventually look like DA and Hall last year if we kept passing 2 to 1!

Did you watch the same game that everyone else did?

I hope Kevin Kolb becomes similar to our local water company.

By this I mean: No one goes around wondering about how their water company is doing unless something goes really wrong.

You merely turn on the spiggot and the water comes out. Cool.

That's what I'm hoping to see from Kevin - i.e. less about the statistics and, instead, the automatic faith that he'll keep on doing what he's doing.

The 66.7% completion-rate and 2 TDs-to-0 Interceptions should be something we can safely assume (without a lot of fanfare) he'll do week in and week out.

Just like the water company.

If he can deliver on this (& we can stop doing dumb things in other aspects of the game), we'll be a shoe-in to make the playoffs.

And nothnig gets said about it. No attention. Nada.

Which I love. Just let him glide under the radar.

Guy had a killer game, and looked good doing so.

I've drastically raised my expectations in terms of the division, after yesterday, it seems the Seahawks and Rams have some work to do.

The 49ers aren't setting the world on fire but with a stable productive QB like you just described, we should easily win the division.

To compete at an elite level though we're going to need more in other areas of the team but it's a great rebuilding job for one year.

Our oline played well

Stopped reading after this

You must have been in one of your states of delirium during the game. Kolb made the line look good on paper (only 2 sacks allowed) because of his mobility. People talk about him needing to step into the pocket, but he's gonna get killed if he does that.

The line play was atrocious.

Go watch the Jeff King TD pass. The line quickly broke containment and Kolb had to roll to the right. Fortunately, Carolina blew coverage and Kolb saw the open receiver.

We were joking in the game thread that it was a designed screen pass so many Carolina defenders came through untouched.

Saw this in the preseason as well, something to continue to watch and work on because it seems there often is a decent pocket to step into.

That being said, it stuns me that Levi Brown is a starter in the NFL. He is just putrid, and I doubt Jeremy Bridges would be worse. Even if Bridges were just mediocre, it would be a huge upgrade. I would have Jeff King next to Levi every play. (Well, really would put Levi on the bench, but know that ain't gonna happen)

Even worse is Joey Porter. He must have pics of Graves and Whiz together, because there can be no possible explanation as to how he gets so much playing time. His pass rush at this point is laughable, Scho-hawk in a handful of downs was far more effective than Porter who played the majority of the game.

Gotta give the O-Line some credit for the rush blocking -- I haven't taken the time to look this up, but how many times over the last 3 years that didn't feature Hightower breaking a huge run have we averaged 4.75 YPC? It could and probably should have been even higher than that as well.

The pass blocking definitely needs some work though. At some point even THES will have to relent on Levi Brown if he doesn't start playing better. It's a deep draft at OT next year, and I still think that's where we end up going with that pick.

Obviously comparing anyone to what Warner did is tough but I was impressed he used his TE's so well.

He's a huge upgrade from last year that's clear.

How good he'll ultimately wind up is anybody's guess but we'd probably have won the division last year with him.

There wasn't a single game last season where we had 300+ yards passing. We start a QB raw and learning the system on the fly and he hits that mark (under duress much of the game, mind you). And Carolina's D isn't horrible.

What I especially liked was how he rebounded after facing adversity. On the Doucet TD pass drive, he had two horrendous plays before. He could have turtled like our QBs of 2010, but he forgets about those mistakes, focuses on the next play and hits Doucet on a one step drop.

I'm not going to anoint him as the savior, but if yesterday wasn't his ceiling, we are fortunate

I've been searching for all those games where we held a 3 score lead and still passed the ball on every down but I'm not having much luck. Could you list a few of them for us so we can go back and review them. Thanks in advance.
