On NBATV tonight, they were talking about the Suns. Kevin McCale said he expects Nash to be moved in the next 3 to 10 games. He hasn't heard any rumors, but the talk on the set was that the Suns couldn't be improved any more for Nash, and that it wasn't fair for him to play on this team. They thought the injury to Grant Hill may actually speed up Nash being traded.

Don't kill the messenger, I am just telling you guys what the talk on NBATV regarding Nash was about. :)

Figured this would happen, I hope he goes some where nice and the Suns get something for him. I hope our decades of awesome PG aren't over for too long, and good luck to Nash. Think I better throw the Nash jersey in the rotation while I can.

All the talking heads think Nash should be traded but Nash and the Suns have not said anything and there has not been a single trade rumor.

Yeah, it's a bummer. I can't think of a contending team with a point-guard with potential to be great that would trade him for Nash. Some young guys that could be great: Lawson, Collison, Rubio, Beaubois, and Holliday. I don't think any of them could be had.

This is the first time that I ever switched off a Suns game. I just can't watch it anymore. :(

Edit: Sigh, this was meant to be posted in the Nuggets-Suns game thread. I guess my performance on the message board is on par with that of the Suns on court.

Don't get me wrong, I love Nash, but I can't see anyone wanting to give up youth and trade for him...

Which is why it is unlikely the Suns trade him. The act of trading Nash won't magically make the Suns better or put them in any better position going forward than keeping him.

It is sad because I honestly feel Nash wants to retire here. His family is here and he has said many times that he wants to retire as Suns. He hasn't demanded max. contract to force the team to trade him away but he is in a very awkward position right now.

I don't know what to think. I don't think Suns can improve anymore (at least in this season) and which team Nash wants to go.

There's the conundrum. How do you work a successor into the lineup as Point Guard while the remnants of SSOL remain?

Our next starting Point Guard is going to be a buffer and will probably fail, as is Dragic.

As poorly as we are doing now, it would be better to get that done, then move on.

There is no reason to keep Nash here to suffer. Even if we can get a mid first round pick for him we might as well take it and just hope to unload either Frye, Childress, or Warrick's contact with him. We don't need him here to sell tickets because the play on the court is absolutely terrible even with him here and I believe casual fans have picked up on that.

I think [hope?] Suns fans are sophisticated enough that Nash alone is not deemed to be the price of admission. This is not a knock on Nash at all: his place in the ring of honor is secure. But the whole, "bring the family down to hopefully see Mark Reynolds hit a home run" strategy just shouldn't work with Suns fans.*

*Not that it worked with Diamondbacks fans.

Nash won't be traded. McHale if fishing.

1) Nash doesn't want to be traded because as bad as it is, there really isn't a better place for Nash to be. The contenders won't want him and it's not like there's a mid-level team just waiting on a Nash to run a Nash-friendly system to get them to the playoffs. Before the season NY would've been an obvious choice, but Ray Felton is playing out of his mind now. There's no place for Nash to go -- and Nash himself acknolwedges this. He's happy in Phoenix. He doesn't want to leave.

2) The Suns can't get Nash value in return, so they will keep Nash and use him as the only person who can sell tickets for the team.

Nash won't be traded. People will talk, but it's not going to happen.

I hope you're wrong. In part, I believe you ARE wrong. I don't think Nash is going to continue to sell tickets, if he even still is. I just don't see how an aged point guard leading a really bad team is such a draw. Whether he's traded or not, I think paid attendance numbers will decline rapidly this season.

Nash has been on an obvious decline for 13 months now. He's still capable of putting up good numbers but watching the games, he just doesn't control the offense the way he used to. He has flashes of his old self but the passes are less accurate and less crisp and his shot is less consistent. He's a smart guy, I have to think he'll wake up and realize he's a spot player now and doesn't belong on a team that needs him every moment of every game.

The only teams that are middle-contenders and need an additional push at the PG position would be:

- Portland: Roy needs help, someone to limit his minutes with those knees. Anybody want to roll the dice on Oden with our training staff?

- Oklahoma City: Westbrook could move over to the 2 and their backcourt would be unstoppable. A package around bringing Harden back to AZ and draft picks?

- Atlanta: They have no young tradeable assets other than Josh Smith who isn't going to get much better than he already is. You can trade for Jamal Crawford's expiring deal and draft picks, yuck. Maybe throw Childress and Bibby into the deal?

Not a lot of good options, but please do something to give the fans some hope. Maybe something will go down once the trade restrictions pass for Carter, Gortat and Pietrus. (fingers crossed)

I would be very, very curious to see this scenario. But if I were the GM I don't think I could do it. Even with the Suns trainers it's hard to picture a full season out of the guy.

I don't know about the cap, but Miami is only weak at the PG position. They have some decent back up guys. Heck, I don't know if there's anywhere Nash wants to go, but this team is going to get a lot worse. Does Nash want to play on a terrible team for his remaining time in Phoenix? My thinking is we may not trade him this year, but if we can't draft anyone decent to play with Nash, then what's the point?

If the Suns and Nash are serious about parting ways, they should look at Dallas. Yes, Kidd is the incumbent PG, but he's not a scorer, and his shooting has regressed to the atrocious levels that characterized his early career. Play Kidd and Nash together and it's obviously a major upgrade over Stevenson (although admittedly Stevenson has magically found a golden touch from long range so far this season).

Butler's salary matches almost exactly, so then it's coming up with some filler for Dallas to send the Suns' way. I'm not high on Beaubois, but I guess he'd be the one to ask for. Beaubois and a pick is probably the best the Suns could do.

Or we could become a facilitator for the Melo trade such as this:

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine

We'd have to take back a pick or two to get fair value, but the Nets conceivably become a contender while maintaining good depth and the trade becomes less convoluted than the one with DET and DEN still gets Favors and cap relief and Billups gets to stay in DEN to retire and the Suns get a bit younger while maintaining their flexibility and picking up draft picks.

Alternatively, send Hill to NJ with Nash in something like this:

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine

Nothing really changes except that the Nets get even better and deeper thus increasing the considerations the Suns could take back - an additional pick?

All I care about nowadays for the Suns is that they get picks and future flexibility. It is WELL PAST time to blow this team up. These do just that....
