On that long punt return by Battle, the only reason he didn't score is because Marcel Shipp came in at the end and made the tackle. IIRC we held them to a FG on that drive.

Also, anybody else getting sick of watching offensive lines push RB's into the endzone with no call? That 2nd td by Gore he was literally shoved 5 yards by Justin Smiley #65. That is not legal, it's unsportsmanlike conduct and I can't recall the last time i saw it called.

Oh well, take the win hope the D improves next week and the OL, Seattle led the NFL in sacks last year.

I howled about that too but honestly it's par for the course, I think we did fair as far as the officials go but seemed they were for the 49ers, nothing new there.

The impression I got was that had we scored one more TD in the first half the game would have been a blowout, the 9ers kept answering and the announcers were just dumb, they said about 20 times that it was 21 to 3, it was never 21 to 3 it was 21 to 7..... Bill M isn't the brightest bulb in the box.

Overall, I think it's a fair first effort, it's a young team, a team that needs to be told in practice this week how lame it was to let that team back in it and rode harder than if they'd lost the game IMO.

You mean you didn't like it when we were on offense and Maas said that SF had lined up Karlos Dansby as a down lineman and that was the key to their getting pressure? Uh bill, he plays for Arizona not SF, and he's NOT playing in the game today.

It will be nice when the Cards start winning and they don't have the low end announcers assigned for there games. Those guys were morons

I can deal with the bad announcers, but wtf is with the annoying as hell sounds that fox needs to have going off with the scoreline in the middle of plays? Every freaking play we have to hear the same ANNOYING sounds?

When does the ridiculousness end? Just fire the stupid animation guys, get rid of the dancing robots and sound effects, and concentrate on the FREAKING GAME!

/end rant.

I'm actually going to find a comments email address for Fox and complain about this today. The noise during the play was absolutely terrible.

Did any of you guys notice the one announcer with the marbles in his mouth call Warner "Plummer"? I rewound it to make sure, I'm not sure what part of the game it was but it was after a hand-off

I would pay extra if I could get a TV feed that didn't have any play by play or color announcers. I just want the crowd and actual stadium PA mic'd. Show some relevant stats on occasion on the screen, but not overkilled.

I tune the announcers out after a while.

The local paper today said something like do you really think we are THAT disconnected from the games that we need a stupid vacuum sound to tip us off that the ball has been snapped?

Exactly - I tune the tv to Fox for the game, not for the effects. The first scoreboard used in the top right of the screen years ago was the best one, because it was soooo simple. It did what it was intended for and nothing more.

What paper was that? I found the comments page at Fox Sports and would love to include a link.

What about the officials not assessing the 49ers with the 4th timeout at the beginning of the 2nd half. People who watched the game at home would have a better vantage point. But it appeared that the 49ers used a quick timeout near the 1st half of the 3Q. And two to stop the clock in the final 3 minutes of the game.

Is this true? Did SF use an early timeout in the 3Q?

It was in the San Jose Mercury News, I can't find it online but it was in my paper at home this morning in a section where they were reviewing the first weeks tv coverage winners and losers. I think it's the "buzz" column which I can't seem to find except for Friday in the online paper(www.mercurycenter.com).

I think Jim O fielded this and had a good explanation in this thread:

NBC tried this once. In 1980, they did a Jets Dolphins game with absolutely no announcers, just intermittent graphics (this was, of course, before full time on screen graphics), and it was awful.

No, what they need to do is hire better announcers for the games. Thankfully, since the Cardinals will be winning all their games this year, game one will be the last with Fox' worst crew. :koolaid:

Believe it or not, Shipp doesn't catch him if Scott Player doesn't get in the way a little bit.

True Player made a nice effort there and slowed him up. I still can't believe how easily he stiff armed Darling who had a clear straight on shot at him. Battle is pretty elusive but to stiff arm a guy that has 50 pounds on him surprised me.
