SDS is to UOP as VMC was/is to AWA/USAA.

The gestapo at UOP is worse, but my friend was told to remain in his seat during garbage time of a meaningless Suns/Bucks game years ago. Stuff that wouldn't have happened at the Madhouse on McDowell.

It's all about the new building and the institution of news rules/etiquette that really do not mesh with the reality of professional sports at all.

I don't remember AWA being like that when it first opened(though I was young and may not have noticed) but I haven't been to a regular season Suns game since 2006 for the same reason. At the very moment I was being told I needed to sit down Cedric Ceballos was on the PA saying "Suns fans on your feet" with the stand up montage playing on the monitors, it was surreal.

Haven't posted here in a long time but I came by just to see what the word on the board was about our Cards, I saw this thread and had to chime in.

I haven't shared this with my Cards fan friends because honestly it's pretty embarrassing but I see I'm not the only one.

I got kicked out of the first game this season (Seattle).

Anyone who knows me knows that I've had season tickets forever with my Dad and we're about as laid back as you can get. I dont get drunk at the games, I dont get in fights, I dont even really enjoy talking smack to other fans, I just go to watch the games and root for my Cardinals.

The shortest version of the story I can muster is this. My Dad is 63 years old and cant do stairs so we sit in the handicapped section. At the Seattle game there were a bunch of drunk Seattle fans standing behind the HC section, there are no seats behind the HC section, it's just the concourse, you're not allowed to stand behind the HC section, there is a white line you are required to be behind, they were not. They were all sloppy drunk and were being real jerks and telling me to sit down cuz I was blocking their view. I told them they weren't even supposed to be standing there but they kept at it. Several other people in the HC section were telling them to go away but they didn't. So I walked over to a SAFE guy, told him what was going on, he came over and asked them to chill out and they immediately started razzing me for "telling on them." Then they started throwing popcorn at us. So a pair of cops were walking by so I got them to come over, SAFE came over, they heard both sides and determined that the bottom line was that I needed to sit down. I kept pointing out that they weren't supposed to be there and the SAFE guy would just inturrupt me and say "We're talking about you."

I was completely baffled and my fellow Cards fans all started barking at the SAFE guy defending me. He then told me that I had gotten everyone all riled up and I needed to leave. Keep in mind that the whole time this is going on the drunk Seattle fans are still there laughing and taunting me and the other Cards fans the whole time.

So they escorted me out. It was insane, humiliating and wrong. I didn't do anything wrong, you can ask anyone. I'm not the kind of guy that gets kicked out of ANYWHERE.

So I emailed the Cardinals, got the canned response that SAFE was just doing their job but I was welcome to come back but I always need to do what the SAFE people tell me to do.

So I'm done. I sold the rest of the season and next year I'll use the money I would spend on tickets to take my kids on vacation.

Wow, Bert. I am so sorry to hear that. Totally bogus BS.

I would write to the Cardinals and tell them why you are not renewing and why you sold the rest of your seats. They need to know that they are losing quality fans because of this crap.

BTW, I met a Dolphins fan in California last week while on vacation. He gave our team props and said he was at the Miami-Cards game. He said we have some of the nicest fans he has ever seen at a game.

Well, that pissed me off.

Sanders thought it was a nice thing to say. I said "I don't want opposing fans thinking our stadium is a 'friendly' place."

Hearing all these stories makes me wonder how I haven't got kicked out yet. I am in row 4, and I stand on third down all the time. I scream "defense" on every down when we are on defense. I had a few fans give me dirty looks yesterday, but I just say "if you don't like it, don't come back. This is MY house." Lol. Yeah, tough girl right here. I even called a Bills fan a nasty name Sunday, and I was loud. After I said it, I thought "oops" but nothing was done, thankfully.

Sorry this is happening to all you guys.

Been here 15 years and attended my first ever Cards game on Sunday - in Loft 333. Rough way to break in.....

Sorry you were escorted out, that seems really screwed up... I would definitely contact the team, as suggested.

I have been to a number of Texan games. Fans of both sides stand for a majority of the game. Nobody gets thrown out, it is a freaking sporting event filled with passion. This is not a classical concerto in a concert hall. Been to some Saints games, they stand a majority of the time and the thought of someone throwing them out would be considered laughable. If you want to sit, stay home and sit on a couch but even at home I find myself standing :)

Hear, hear! Who came up with this stupid policy of 'no excessive standing'?? it's unheard of in other football venues.

What will they outlaw next? Excessive cheering?

Can't compete with the stories so far but I was threatened with a ticket by a DPS cop for lighting my grill after the game on the great lawn......:D

Man these stories just piss me off. I am surprised I haven't been kicked out yet, my section must be pretty chill. I have said and done much worse at games. I did have a buddy I brought get kicked out last year during the Dallas game for throwing a cup back at a cowboys fan who was throwing them at us.

Things like this make ME almost not want to renew. It's a big commitment to the money and time to travel, etc to see people treated like this.

No respect for a 8 yr season tix holder who got kicked out due to standing? hate on staff, not the fan. He drives in from vegas for every game. You either didnt read his post or you are just rediculous in general. If I flew in from out of town and got kicked out for standing I would boycott also. Flying in = at least $100 bucks plus $100 for tix, $50 for beer. $250 a sunday and get kicked out for standing.

I drive from Palm Springs for EVERY game...leave at 6:30am - get to tailgate by 10:20....leave after the game home at 9-10pm. 8hrs driving per game + $100 in fuel.

I don't like how SAFE handles everything, but you also gotta be smart enough that once they give you a warning 'and they will' to play it smart. SAFE stays in the area watching the suspect for 15 minutes after the incident...making sure you don't repeat the problem.

Do I like it...no...but be smart enough of what's going on around you so that if it happens you don't get kicked out.

That stinks and I am sure you didn't deserve that, however, there was one guy in our section that was the only guy standing and it was never at the right time and he was the only one. It sucks to sit behind a guy like that because you fel like an ass telling him to sit down and he only impacts a couple people but some people don't know that you don't scream to the point of disrupting the snap count when we are on offense and if you are the only one in the stadium standing it might make sense to sit down. Given your tenure as a fan I know this isn't the kind of fan you are this is just a perspective from a guy who missed some key plays because the guy in front of me wouldn't sit and I was aware enough of the people behind me not to stand.

The only real problem I have with the whole thing is the notion that "they will warn you" that is not 100% true. There is nothing that indicates that you have to be warned before being kicked out.

If there are clear cut rules then fine I have absolutely no problem following them. I'm sure there is someone out there who will point me in the right direction after this post.

I even stated earlier that I walked my friend away from an embarrassing situation to get him to settle down so I'm confident there was someone who called or texted SAFE and felt he was a distraction of some sort. Fine. No problem. I didn't have a problem with it that day.

My point was that when we removed ourselves from the area we were in. We were walking along the concourse near the bathrooms and concessions when my friend spotted SAFE personnel. My friend approached the guy to discuss the issue he had and it was assumed that he was the culprit. I’m fine with that.

Once I realized where this conversation was going I put my arms around my friend in a non-threatening manner to get him to walk away. I was at that point met face to face with a SAFE agent who threatened to have me thrown out if I did not let my friend go. I stated that I was removing him from the area for his sake and of course mine.[He was my ride home] I was told that I could not do that and he must leave and we cannot leave together. He was detained as I was escorted out and sometime later he was allowed to leave.

Where does this make sense? Where was the mistake made on my part? What am I not understanding?
At this point I was perfectly content in letting this go. But after reading numerous reports of similar posts I have had a chance to reflect on my previous experience from 2 years ago (maybe even 3 now) and it has allowed me a chance to identify [in part] why I have been losing interest in going to Cardinal games at UOP.

Of course there are other reasons, but this apparently has been a bigger thing in my mind than I originally allowed myself to accept. Even as I write this I can feel a sense of anger simmering underneath my skin because I have spent so much time and effort cheering for this team when I was "one" of the few thousand fans that has adopted this team since my first days in Arizona.

Sure I haven't spent thousands of dollars on tickets, travel, meals and the like to see this team in other cities away from home. Just like some of you, I have invested many hours and more than enough time and energy on this team over the years. The Super Bowl year was gratifying and yet we left something on the table that makes it hard to accept mediocrity any longer.
I was willing to put up with a second rate stadium. I was willing to make excuses for management, players, and the like. I am NOT willing to accept being treated like a criminal when there were no communicated rules, laws or bylaws violated. If this is too much to ask then I am perfectly willing to stay away from UOP for as long as it takes until there is a concerted effort to ensure that this does not happen to others. Call me what you want.

Notes to self:

Don't drink at the football game.. got it.

Don't 'hug' a friend. check.

Don't stand in the nose bleed seats.

No yelling.

The unproven word of others is law. ok.

Thanks BIM :D

I never got a warning, although I think that's why they pulled me out of my seat. They also admitted to not watching the situation at all before coming and getting me out of my seat. As soon as they asked me for my name I asked them for their names, with all the Cards fans around pleading my case for me...I was asked to just go back to my seat, warning free. I did get their names after asking repeatedly. :D

I'm scared of this happening again. I know how I am, and although I'm no troublemaker, I can get riled up easily. Of course the SAFE worker came up to us when the clown Raider fan started the whole thing. Hearing you guys's stories makes this just another day at the ol stadium.

Excessive Standing - Arizona Cardinals - The true Story

Feely became only the 11th kicker in NFL history to make a field goal of at least 60 yards. Too bad we didn’t get to see it.

Steve is your typical, bleed Cardinal Red, season tickets in the Red Sea holding Cardinals fan.
His photo permanently embedded in the Stadium Wall of Fame as an original Season Ticket holder. A Cardinals fan since The “Phoenix Cardinals” moved to Phoenix when Steve was two. His Dad, sitting with him, who flew F-16′s for the Tucson Arizona Air National Guard in 1988, told him to pick a team and stick with it. Steve owns 30 Cardinal Player Jerseys, comes to every Cardinals home game from his residence in Las Vegas, asked for and received Arizona Cardinals Season Tickets for his High School graduation, then graduated ASU with a GPA of 3.02 on a Sun Devil Scholarship 2004 – 2008. He’s never missed a game, he lives and breathes Cardinals Football, including going to the 2009 Super Bowl and the 2009 Pro Bowl, half way around the world in the same week, screaming until his throat feels like sandpaper when his favorite team is on the field.
So you can imagine his feeling after being kicked out during Sunday’s Buffalo game, Cardinals down by 3, with 4 minutes to play in the 4th. The Defense is on the field motioning for the crowd to “Stand up and Make Some Noise!”… Not for being drunk, violent or disorderly. No, security removed him because — get this — he was standing too much.
“We do not stand all the time,” the 26-year-old explained, no one in our section asked us to sit down, we hadn’t received any previous warnings from the ushers, or security. There was only 4 minutes left on the clock, the defense was on the field. “We stand on first down, we stand at the beginning of the game, we stand at kickoff. We stand when our defense motions for us to stand, and yell to distract “the bad guys”. We stand. We are standers, but we’re also courteous to other people. If somebody says, ‘Hey man, will you sit down?’ Sure, I will sit down. No problem.”
He said the usher, who became immediately belligerent, told him that fans can only stand during third and fourth downs and whenever there is a stoppage in the game, like a time out. The usher told him, “He was not allowed to stand for the rest of the game.” No mention that it actually ‘was’ a defensive third down when he removed us for ‘standing’, that was beside his point…
His Dad, who was also kicked out Sunday (said security didn’t like when he complained about their treatment), they were never warned, never asked to sit by anyone in Section 218, and it was the last four minutes of the 4th quarter AZ down by 3, defense on the field. The usher ran down to their section, removed them to the Club Level Lobby, causing them to miss the Patrick Peterson end zone interception that lead to a game tying 61 yard Field Goal by Feely with two minutes to go. This encounter took place while the Defense was motioning for Fans to stand, “Get Loud, Make Noise.” A Booster on the field holding up a sign reading, “Rise UP Red Sea!”
While a quarter before, a drunk and disorderly Bills fan, using tickets sold to him by a Cardinal Season Ticket holder, was removed, then escorted, fresh beer in hand, back down to his seat by security . He proceeded to jump into a crowd of seated Cardinals fans yet he was still not ejected.
Steve got no warning, he was escorted from his seat during the last four minutes, but said people were standing in front of him and behind him.
Distraught, outside the stadium at club level entrance “Gila River Club West”, the Manager of Gate 1, gave him a bottle of water, and was very sympathetic, feeling this was unreasonable, he let him stand to hear the cheers of the 61 yard tying field goal on the radio. Security was boo’d by Section 218 for escorting “The Best Cardinals Fans in section 218″ out of the stadium, The Manager took two statements from other Section 218 Season Ticket Holders who stated they left the game in support of Steve. Quoting, “We are from Minnesota, and this would NEVER happen in Minnesota.”
Could it be:
With 3 seconds on the clock, and one more ounce of Fan energy echoing on to the field, would the game winning Field Goal have gone through the uprights rather than bouncing off the goal post if we were allowed to ‘stand’ and cheer from our lucky seats? I would like to believe it would.

Welcome to ASFN, where you don't have to pay for your seat or sit in it at all times. :) Root as hard core as you like!!! I aint trying to jack Solar's thread but I am glad I'm not alone on this. If I aint cursing or taunting other fans, and if I stand up and cheer for my team on defense...than I better do it from home or else!!!

Who trains these people, city of Glendale? Cardinals? Seems like that should be where complaints are directed.

Sorry this happened, CardsChick. Welcome to the forum.

They said their employees are very well trained, SAFE did, on the Thursday or Friday after the game...after I called the Cards place the day after the game. So don't hold your breath Steve. They will offer free tickets if you don't tell them you plan on giving them away to blind kids that love to sit a lot. :D

Thank you everyone.
I'm pretty sure the SAFE security guard has the Bills QB on his Fantasy Team.
I'm searching for a blue smiley with a zipped mouth and bulging eyes, to connote holding my breath until I turn blue.
If I ever go to another game I will spend it on my knees in prayer. That way I will not be blocking anyone's view, or disturbing anyone. It is win/win, instead of the Cardinals Defense making the motion to rise, they can press their hands together in a motion for Fans to pray for them. It might work?
Shush everyone, Ryan Fitzpatrick is trying to concentrate!
You can see him, right? Glad to be of help.
Nah, at nearly a buck fifty a seat, I think I will stay home.

And thats awesome for you, still no reason to call out solar for not wanting to do that anymore if he can be kicked out for trivial reasons.

I think I figured out where some of the confusion over this issue has come from. I failed to read the fine print under this year's mantra/motto that is printed right on the front of the season tickets:

PLAY AS MANY. STAND AS ONE.

*Disclaimer: Not to be taken literally. Please do not actually STAND AS ONE. Doing so will result in you being promptly removed from the premises. Thank you.
