This is a quote from Lucy Liu on the upcoming (Oct 10th release) of Kill Bill, Quentin Tarantino's next flick:

"It's so violent. People will leave the movie theatre or get sick in the movie theatre. But there's so much violence that it becomes not numbing, but almost comedic. There's a scene where there's so much violence that the color of the film goes into black and white, so that the blood looks like oil. It's cinematic, it's art. You can take it to a different level, and show what violence is, in such a heightened manner that you don't think of it as violence anymore, you think of it as a language. If you go to Kill Bill, you know there's going to be violence - that's your option."

This has two main problems.

1) We'll have to pay TWICE to see the entire movie--of course, some may say that it's just a 2-part movie--like a trilogy.

2) What if Part 1 is horrible? Or nobody really goes to see it? Part 2 then dies a MAJOR death.

Someone help me out here, but has Tarantino had a hit since Pulp Fiction in 1994? If not, then it seems like a big risk for a studio to take. Isn't Kill Bill supposed to be extremely violent as well? This has the look of a bomb to me.

From Dusk Till Dawn - Budget 20M, grossed 79.05M between box office and rentals.

Jackie Brown - Budget 12M, grossed 72.6M just in the box office.

They're not "hits", per se, but 5-6 years ago 70 million bucks was nothing to sneeze about - and his films are very profitable.

Technically, From Dusk Till Dawn and to a lesser extent Four Rooms were NOT Tarantino films, rather they were films which had some contributions by Tarantino, much like Sleep With Me and the horrid, horrid bomb Destiny Turns on the Radio.

From Dusk Till Dawn was directed by Robert Rodriguez, but the first half of the film was written by Tarantino. (and it was certainly not his best work)

His filmography is tiny:

Reservoir Dogs
Pulp Fiction
Jackie Brown
Kill Bill

And that's it.

How about:

My Best Friend's Birthday (1987)
Four Rooms (1995) (segment "The Man from Hollywood")

He also wrote part of True Romance

By filmography, I was talking about DIRECTION. True Romance or Natural Born Killers are not "Quentin Tarantino films". True Romance is a Tony Scott Film and NBK of course is an Oliver Stone film.

Direction? Big whoop. WRITING a story implies ownership. Of course, I'm a writer, so I guess I'm biased, but still.

Tarantino wrote Reservoir Dogs, True Romance, Natural Born Killers, Pulp Fiction, a segment of Four Rooms, From Dusk Till Dawn, adapted Jackie Brown, and Kill Bill.

I'm a writer too, but Schindler's List isn't a "Steven Zaillian Film" and Braveheart isn't a "Randall Wallace Film". I agree that writers are shafted, but I also know how Hollywood works, and NBK is not a Tarantino film.

Personally, I think QT is a great writer, but a pretty average director.

QT also contributed to Crimson Tide (probably from his relationship with Tony Scott), but that doesn't make the film his.

But Four Rooms and From Dusk Till Dawn weren't masterpieces, neither was Jackie Brown.

I've read the Kill Bill script, and it's nowhere near as clever as Pulp Fiction or Reservoir Dogs. I don't even think True Romance is that great either. NBK was a crappy, crappy movie, but that was Stone's fault.

This isn't the first time this has happened. Only previous time would be The Toxic Avenger II and The Toxic Avenger III: The Last Temptation of Toxie . Those both really blew, though. Hopefully this one doesn't (although I have a gut feeling it will)

I'm psysched to see this flick. The ads they have been showing on tv make it look pretty cool.

I saw the trailer in the theater. It's either going to be hugely successful or a huge flop.

It looks like Tarantino is either mainstreaming the movie (which I doubt, it being Tarantino), or a mockup of the Charlie's Angel's-type plot (God, I hope not!), or cheesily funny with some cool, cheesy action.

Who knows how good it will be until it's out?

Well, I read the script, and I must say that the cast is definitely the selling point here. But the script really isn't all that--it really read like all style and no substance, your basic revenge movie. Hopefully it'll be a little better than that, but you never know.

For me, I thought the cheesy, 70s feel to the trailer was great, but that hasn't changed my mind about what to expect.

I certainly hope Tarantino hasn't sold his soul.
