Sacramento has reportedly had discussions with veteran forward Drew Gooden regarding a possible buyout.

Gooden's ability to join a contender will close on Sunday night.

We may not be able to offer him a shot at ring, but we can offer him a starting spot and a chance to increase his value to cash in next year. Gooden came out the same year as Amare; I don't know it he's at the point in his career where he's not thinking about his next contract and is fine with riding the pine for a ring.

My guess is that he goes to a Western Conference team in the hunt for the playoffs.

We can offer him a lovely starting position in a city that currently has beautiful weather and cheap housing!

When is the deadline? Just an hour away? Any updates?

Gooden would get chance to showcase his skill and might evtl. stick to Suns next to Amare for the long run. He knows we are in dire need for real bigman, even when Amare comes back for playoffs.

I think the deadline has already passed. Is there any news regarding either Gooden or Joe Smith?

If not, our only hope for a veteran big would be Walker and Horry! I'm disgusted for that prospect. :bang:

imo,
Gooden will not join the suns,
if he really is bought out,
he'llrejoin the cavs,
the cavs lost big ben to injury right?
hell be the starting PF there again.

The rumor I've seen is Joe Smith is going to the Cavs. I doubt the Suns are even in position financially to go after Gooden even if he were bought out. Adonal Foyle was waived. However, I doubt if he has much game anymore.

Drew Gooden agreed to a buyout with the Sacramento Kings and the San Antonio Spurs are the favorite to sign him for the rest of the regular season and playoffs, two league executives said on Sunday night.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are also a contender for Gooden.

The Oklahoma City Thunder also reached a buyout with veteran forward Joe Smith, and several league executives believe Smith is headed to the Cavaliers. If the Cavs and Smith reach an agreement quickly, Gooden would almost certainly wind up with the Spurs.

As usual, the rich get richer. :mulli:

I think we have a fair chance to get one of them, especially for Gooden, who is only 27, probably seek a long contract in summer. We can offer a starting job and heavy minutes, while in San Antonio he would have to compete with Bonner, KT, and even Oberto.

Or, sadly, it will be Sarver proving to be SAVER again?

Don't we get some solid insurance money for Amare not being active? Surely we have the assets and perks to entice Gooden.

Gooden is not even close to welcome in cleveland. LeBron and Gooden have had strong words since Gooden was traded, and the entire cavaliers fanbase, myself included, hates the guy.

In San Antonio he would have a shot at a ring. He wouldn't have that here. That's probably going to make the difference for him. I think he'd be the first big off the bench for the Spurs.

If the first big off the bench in SA is Gooden and not KT, I'm ok with that. KT is twice the player that Gooden is, even at his old age.

He's also injured and damaged goods this year. (He limped off the floor in his only appearance with the Kings) We aren't going to sign him.

In 26 minutes he also scored 12 and added 13 boards in his lone game with Sacramento. Even if he's damaged goods, bring him in.

Gooden is better offensively, Kurt is better defensively. I don't see where either one is twice the player the other is. And like the above post says, 12 points and 13 boards before he walked off.

Kt was also injured for half of october.
