In two-plus seasons, Westphal compiled a 51-120 record, winning 25 and 24 games in the previous two seasons. The Kings take a 2-5 record into tonight's game at Power Balance Pavilion.

"I want to thank Paul for all his efforts on behalf of the Kings," Petrie said in a statement. "Unfortunately, the overall performance level of the team did not approach what we felt was reasonable to expect. I wish h im the best in his future endeavors."

After beating the Lakers in the home opener, the Kings suffered brusing losses against Portland, Chicago, New York, Memphis and Denver last night. The only other victory came against the injury-depleted New Orleans Hornets.

Westphal previously coached the Phoenix Suns and Seattle Sonics.

There in desperate need of a PG and shooting, Suns should offer Nash to land some of there young talent, would be very wise of the Suns. Kings have way too many scorers and No role players, that team needs 2 balls for the king too have chemistry

League should just contract the Kings all together. What you thought Westy would do more with THAT team? Please.

Westy just doesn't have the ability to coach at the NBA level. He should stick to the college ranks and probably the lower divisions.

In a van...down by the river.
If i need a clutch basket out of a timeout i'd like to have Westy drawing it up....he was also a pretty good players coach who could manage ego's....otherwise i thought he was always in over his head in terms of developing talent & making in game adjustments.

Past tense is appropriate here.

But what does firing Westy accomplish anyway? NBA GM's and owners never stop amazing with their idiocy.

Westphal deserved to get canned. The team as constructed right now is every man for himself. Very obvious watching them why they are 2-5. Selfish one on one players and bad attitudes. Not suprised if there was a mutiny.

Westy deserves less blame than the dope that put the team together and put Westy in charge.

When he sent Cousins home several days ago, it was pretty much the beginning of the end for Westphal.

I can only imagine this is the end of his run as a coach. He'll always hold a place with Sun fans, but that star stopped shining quite some time ago.

As for the Kings, the nightmares only seem to get worse.

This seems to be Westy's mo. He is better suited as an assistant coach on the nba level.

Add Cousins to the list of coach-killers. I wonder how well the next one will fare.

When a coach becomes an obstacle with a star player, the coach is more easily replaced as suggested.

Westy seems to bring this out in players. Remember Horry throwing a towel at Westy during a game.

I'm pretty sure it was Ainge that was on the coaching end of that towel. Wasn't it?

Ah yes, you are correct. The mind tends to go first with old age.

I'm pretty sure that's so you won't mind too much as age robs you of the other things. The good news is, this is a message board so the mind is somewhat optional.

Don't worry JCSunsfan, I was with you all the way. :)

I remember Ainge more for not playing McDyess at crunch time causing him to look for greener pastures. McDyess is still my most disliked Suns player.

I never connected the two. Sports talk radio and message boards did and eventually it was used against Ainge but IMO it was BS. McDyess had no idea how to play positional defense and he picked up a lot of stupid fouls early. Eventually, in no small part thanks to Danny, Dice figured it out, learned to play defense better and his minutes went up accordingly. He trailed only Kidd in playing time during the second half of that season. I blame it mostly on Lucas who schemed his way back onto a bench with his offseason maneuvering under the guise of being a friendly neighbor.

IMO, Lucas was a huge factor in McDyess leaving. However, I also remember Ainge not playing him to close out games. Pure old school thinking.

However, why would McDyess decide to part from Jason Kidd. I have to lay a lot of blame on McDyess' thought process. He cost the Suns a lot to get him.
