I always like to read him because whether you like him or not he has many informed connections. He has the Cards taking Tyler Booker, the Alabama guard. If you read the commentary he actually seems to indicate the Cards are likely to trade down if his prediction on the top is accurate. He earlier had the Cowboys taking Burden, not the widely anticipated Jeanty. I should add I think they take Jeanty. Kiper’s theory is there will be teams wanting to move up to get Jeanty. There is always time to get a guard. He also believes no Edge left is worth the 16th pick. He places Pearce, Green and Scourton later in the draft. Essentially the Cards would get their choice and another pick if they traded with Denver, for example.

The consensus pick on the Kiper/Yates 2.0 podcast has the CARDS selecting Mike Green DE/Edge.

Crosby has stated he wants to go to a contender though. We’re deeply into the pretender bucket at best until proven otherwise.

I have already said we will trade back. Monty doesn't have ammo this draft to maneuver like he wants. He had a great plan last year, just the picks aren't looking so hot

This draft and our draft position is interesting. There is a pretty solid group of players at CBs and WRs most likely to be drafted high. 1-2 QBs and a blue Chip RB also expected to go high. The remaining players rated at the top of the draft are Edge, DT and OTs.

If the DT and Edge players are gone, that will most likely mean that the highest rated players left are OTs. Do Monti solidify the O-line in that scenario?

Monti needs to stay on the defensive side for picks 1 and 2, then turn to the offensive line. An edge and then defensive tackle would free up linebackers, corners and safeties to put pressure on the other teams’ QBs and help slow down their passing game.

If the Edge/DT guys he likes for 16 are gone I can see him trading back.

I don't think RT is off the table either. Williams is in his last year and was hurt alot. Beachum might be gone. If Josh Simmons is there at #16 I can see him being the pick. I think OT is right up there on their needs list just behind Edge and DT.

I think Jeanty is gone before the Boys pick. He should go top 10 as Bijan did.

Obviously what we do in free agency will effect our draft picks. However, I still feel that we will go for an edge rusher or defensive tackle in the first round. It is too big of a need and we need to get young at those positions.

I hate drafting for pure need, I think it usually results in picking guys too early and missing out on the truly special players. It also seems to be what Monti and JG seem to like doing. I wouldn't be opposed to a guard in theory. We definitely don't need a RB but if Jeanty fell to #16 that would be a steal. Obviously a true difference maker on DL would be the best possible outcome.

We are actually pretty young at edge—we just suck.

IDL aside from DRob is fairly old and mid, but IDL can play for a while. Maybe we sign Zach Allen?

I think the concept of BPA is mostly outdated. Since the arrival of the cap, teams are mostly focused on BPA of players who address needs. Teams certainly shouldn’t bypass potential Pro Bowl players to attack a need. In the Cards’ case they have enough needs that draft to attack one shouldn’t be a problem. Part of the game is how much do you trust your scouting staff? When Ossenfort arrived I doubt he felt much trust. Now that should have changed. It’s time to back them and solve problems. I strongly disagree with the concept that all good Edges will be gone by the 16th pick. Certainly a DT or two will be there. I understand the idea of taking an Oline guy, but I’d move down to do so.
