This sounds like Ayton. He is just a kid at heart. He should grow up.

I have no issue with these types of things. He can absolutely be this guy off the court and still be more aggressive on the court. Whether he will or not is yet to be seen, but it can absolutely be done.

We've now heard about one idea that Jones suggested to Monty. The same
idea that many of us proposed. Especially considering Saric as the alternative.

I wouldn't get carried away being frightened about more input from Jones.

Especially since it worked, 1Sun. It worked. Enjoy the moment!

I'm concerned more that Jones has left us without a legitimate backup
Point Guard, a starting Power Forward for the future and a backup
Center and/or Power Forward, depending if Baynes can play regularly
and is not traded during the season.

Don't forget back-up shooting guard.

That being said, I am okay with this move, but only if Ayton stays in the paint, where he belongs.

The last thing we need is our one legitimate inside presence being encouraged to camp out at the three point line in lieu of mixing it up inside...

Goodness. Let him have fun. This locker room was a GD morgue this time last season. These dudes love each other and their coach

I like Ayton's laid back personality. When I say he is a kid at heart I mean it in a good way.

There is time for him to mature on the court.

Indeed. Exhibit A for that is Shaquille O'Neal.

The best thing that has been happening lately is Kelly’s 3 pt shooting.

if he can shoot anywhere near this well consistently he is a legit number 2/3 scoring option.
He is already our number 2 scoring option. And notice that he is our #1
scoring option and on the court whenever Booker gets a rest. Without
that, we wouldn't win a game.

right. he's totally not an MVP candidate already besides the numbers.

also, your stats argument undercuts a 20/11 Ayton impact as well.
Exactly. Doncic is already a top 10 player in the league...In his second year...at age 20.

Here is every shot by Booker in the game. His shot is pure.

If it comes down to Doncic being Jordan and Ayton being Olajuwon, I can live with that, particularly given that the flags on Doncic coming into the NBA were greater than the flags on Ayton. The ultimate question is whether or not Ayton will end up with the motor, drive and development to become our Olajuwon. He is not off to a great start in that department, but with it being so early in his time here, particularly with a competent coach, I am willing to give it time...UNLESS a trade opportunity like for KAT comes along...
He’s closer to being Bowie than Olajuwon.

Even though he is 6'8, can Cam fit the role of backup Shooting
Guard? He is a pure shooter.

And I have totally agreed with Ayton not guarding the perimeter.

He still needs a lot of training in getting to a good position in the
post after setting a pick. So far, he is awkward.

Rubio said awhile back Oubre is the barometer of the team. If he plays well the Suns usually win.

Book has been a beast the last 5 games. This home-stretch tells the tale of the season.

also, 13 rebounds for Ayton, but do you guys key in on him on a regular basis? Has no one taught that guy to crash HARD into the lane on pick and rolls? He just stands there or kinda drifts which does nothing to make the defense move and create opportunities for anyone, mostly himself. it's so frustrating.
Stark contrast when looking at Robinson, who bulldozed to the rim whenever he could.

David Robinson was 24 when he started playing in the NBA after coming out of the Navy.

Ayton is 21.
Olajuwon played 4 years at Houston.

You’ve got to give Ayton at least another season before you start making those kind of comparisons.

Sorry, should have clarified, was talking about Mitchell Robinson.

Out of curiosity I tried to find some more Ayton footage and this video from summer league to my eye he's a lot more aggressive on the pick and rolls. As the year progressed my memory is he started floating more for pick and pop opportunities, but when he rolls hard in this video good things usually happened, even with subpar PG play.

Definitely need more of that... aggressive on pick and rolls.

Booker credits mid-range shot for finding his rhythm... other players could learn from this.

During Monty's interview this morning w/ 98.7, he raved about DA and his aggressiveness, which he said would come with more experience as it normally takes big men more time to mature physically on the court. This is one of the fundamental problems in the league today. Had Ayton played at UofA for 3-4 years, he'd probably come out of college averaging 23/12 his rookie season, but as a OAD player, he still needs time to grow and mature.

The potential for greatness is apparent and he's improving considerably in the areas with which fans are concerned. Ayton just has to hone it all in.
