On paper,

We have 2 running backs to worry about. Tedd Ginn Jr has some scary speed. That is about it on offense.

Defense you got Jason Ferguson to deal with at NT and a solid secondary, at least the starting 4.

We also have a Renaldo Hill and Quenton Moses sighting!

What the heck happened to Jason Allen ?

Yet, another team that scares me. I just remember the last time we played the AFC East and I said "The Buffalo Bills? They suck we should win this game easy". We then preceded to be ROMPED by the Bills for there first victory of the season.

I am glad this is the Cardinals season opener so there will be some extra motivation to get our guys going for this game.

They've got an inexperienced LT in Long, if the Cardinal defense gets exotic with him they could make him look bad, especially considering his strength isn't protection, it's creating holes.

Last week RT Carey was helped off the field with an injury to a part of his leg. If he's out or hobbled it'll help the Cardinals, he was probably their most talented linemen.

Grigsby is a converted defensive player (LB, DE?) and pretty good on special teams, if I remember the show "Hard Knocks" correctly.

Saw the team last week and they had "pluck" which does concern me. Molkerman corrected me on my perception of Pennington last year and this year he looks to be just as productive. I suppose the trick is to out-anticipate him or disguise coverages an amazing amount.

Matt Roth is playing at LB for the first time since HS. He'll have to show considerably more speed to make the transition successfully, but he's got a relentless motor and doesn't quit on plays, which makes him a pain (he always reminded me of a poor-man's KVB).

We all know the book on Hill, but the fact that he's a safety now is interesting. He always was a step slow for a CB but had dynamite technique and a nose for the ball (hey, waitaminute...).

Allen was a 'tweener coming out of college, and the leg injury might still be the reason he hasn't developed all that well. Or it could be he's just not a very good player.

The Jets/'phins game is on NFL Replay today if anyone missed it last week. I would suggest watching it with the sound off unless you like to hear the word Brett and Favre every 2 seconds.

I say we man up DRC on Ginn all day. He is our only guy who has the speed to stick with him. Getting burnt deep isn't a concern with Pennington at the helm, but there aren't many things I hate more than watching us get killed via the short passing game and dumpoffs.

Defensively, they changed their scheme in the offseason and will go through many of the same problems we did last year (ie incorrect personel and lack of depth at NT and OLB).

All in all, this an opening day game for the homecrowd and they should be a huge factor. I expect us to spank the Fins. 2-0 BABY!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe I'm not thinking this all the way through but Ginn doesn't scare me as a receiver. From what I've read on him and the little bit I watched last week, he's not a good route runner at all and speed is his only weapon. His biggest asset is neutralized by Pennington's noodle arm and the offensive line inability to give him the time to throw it deep, even if he could. He's my fourth or fifth concern defensively and I can't wait for him to go on a slant or something across the middle and get flattened by Hayes or Dansby. He just doesn't seem like a WR to me yet.

two tight ends

The Phins have two good TEs in Martin and Fasano and Pennington abused them in the Jets game.

Donald Thomas, starting right guard was lost for the season last week -- so there will be a back up in there Sunday.

They also waived Boomer Grigsby -- so he isnt on the squad anymore.

I watched the replay last night of Dolphins / Jets -- and in the fourth quarter, Pennington looked like Johnny Unitas in his prime.

Threw lots and lots of underneath stuff -- TE Anthony Fasano was his favorite target.

I will give Pennington this -- his arm is a noodle, but he has great anticipation and puts the ball exactly where it needs to be. He made a living throwing 12 yard passes between the hash marks.

Relative to the 49ers: The Dolphins have a much better QB, but the Rbs arent in the Gore category. Recievers (including TE) and offensive line are comparable. Defense is nowhere close to the 49ers --maybe better on the d-line, but only marginally.

He doesn't frighten me out of my shoes either. He is a dangerous returner though, which means the odds are in his favor when he gets the ball in space. This is why I want DRC draped over him all day. The guy isn't that good of a route runner, so Cromartie should be able to stick with him. This is also a little guy who wont be able to push him around. This could really be a shutdown game and good confidence builder for our #1 pick IMO.

edit--Oh, and I agree I cant wait to see one of our guys knock the snot out of him. I was thinking AW at first, then I thought Rolle. Then I remembered when DRC killed that TE from the Saints. Then I remember that Green likes to beat on little WRs. Then I thought about our headhunting LB corps. Oh yeah, our DL-men have been following the ball and making plays up the field.

This is by far the meanest team we have had in some time. I can think of 5 guys off the top of my head who are just brutal and bring a prescence to the team not felt since the days of Chuck Cecil.

I have a pretty good feel for this team as I live out in South Florida, and if this game wasn't at home I think they would potentially beat us.

Pennington is a good QB who will play to our weakness to overpursue but we can also get to him because he is a sitting duck. Brown and Williams may have good days but im hoping our run defense is going to look alot different with Branch and/or Gabe back there.

As for their defense - well we should blow them up because their coverage is absolute trash (keep in mind that duck that Favre threw up on 4th and 13 - that doesn't happen to good secondaries) and I expect Warner to have a good game as I don't think playmakers when I think of their defense. Edge will grind it out bt keep in mind this team is well coached so it won't get too out of hand unless they are not as far along as they looked the other day.

I have alot riding on this game as much of my friends are Dolp-fans and I think we will take them to the woodshed as long as the defense plays within itself.

31 - 17 Arizona

Another thought that may have bearing:

Pennington was playing against his former team, of whom he knew strengths, weaknesses, and tendencies.

OR because it was his own defense did he really not know that much at all?

I know teams spend a lot of time preparing for others, but not themselves.

Still, could Pennington have gotten an advantage in the first game he won't have in the second?

Very good question that will be answered Sunday.

It's this view right here is one of the reasons I read here.

Whiz is still reasonably fresh from the AFC I expect that to help us a bit.

I don't like playing AFC teams especially teams like the Dolphins, too easy to get complacent about them.

This is a big test of our coaching staff as I believe it's mostly a focus issue on beating the phins, focus and execute and we should win, take it easy or lack urgency and we easily lose this game.

We need to factor in Fan noise!

How will that affect a young OL like the fish have. They have 2 rookies starting on that Line. We need to be LOUD this weekend!

My one small concern: Swing passes to Ricky Williams.

He perfected this skill in his year in the CFL, and got quite good at it.

:stick::stick::stick:Classic TRAP game!

Cards need to come out firing! This is exactly the type of game the "SOC" would lose.
