I've come to the conclusion that Bell, Diaw, Barbosa, and even Marion were never good players. D'antoni just had a knack for implementing players to play to their strengths. Taking would be scrubs and turning into name brand players is a talent.

If I could take it back, damn right, I would.

Isn't that the very definition of a good coach? Unlike others - who shall remain nameless :porter: that try to fit square pegs in a round hole.

What we should have done is kept D'Antoni to help blossom these scrubs into name brands and then trade them away at their peak value for some better talent.

Rinse & repeat...

You have to have some talent to play in D'Antoni's system. If that wasn't the case then D'Antoni would have also turned every bench player into a star too. D'Antoni has so little faith in the bench he never used them.

Marion was putting up good numbers before D'Antoni got here. D'Antoni just made him (and the rest of the team) look even better by putting in a system around scoring as many points as possible but paying little attention to other aspects of the game. Marion's problem in Miami is that they have no low post presence and Marion is a slasher. He doesn't get many opportunities around the rim with D-Wade driving every other trip.

Also, Bell was a good one on one defender until midway last season and this season he has been terrible. We all know D'Antoni didn't emphasize defense so I think Bell playing good defense...was all Bell. Where D'Antoni helped Bell was on the offensive end.

Diaw? There is talent there. There just isn't any sense of urgency IMO. They guy was almost forced to play well when he was our guy when Amare was out. He is like Derick Coleman without the starting job. Only plays hard if he has too.

D'Atoni was a good coach but we need a great coach. D'Antoni is a great regular season gimmick. He is the Marty Shottenheimer of the NBA. He will get you close but will never deliver.

Porter doesn't appear to be the answer but going back to D'Antoni would be like giving a kid a lolly pop but telling him he can only lick the wrapper.

those guys don't grow on trees... ESPECIALLY Cs. You're the one who brought up that DA needed Garnett in there. I'm just saying that if you need THREE ALL-NBA FIRST TEAMERS to make your system work, you're system is inherently flawed. ANYONE could win with that kind of talent. Hell, Doc Rivers proved that last year.

The suns never sniffed 3 all NBA players. Some suggest that marion should never have been an all star, as he cant create his own shot. Players like House, KT, TT, JR, Bell, Diaw were certainly no all stars, but played well above their heads int he DA system. Some former champions:

spurs, 3 all stars, no doubt= 4 rings
pistons, up to 4 all stars= ring
celtics, 3 sure fire all stars + posey and PJ bench= ring

This years suns, 1 all star, amare. this years suns may have the best bench of the last 5 years, but still they do not match lakers, celtics, Pistons or champion spurs benches.

DA>>> Porter. The suns should have found a successful coach to replace DA. They seem to be of the mind that coaching doesnt matter as long as they do what Kerr says. No offense to Porter, but running 100% saunders offense(a failed offense that shot poorly in the eastern conference playoffs repeatedly, year after year) is not very impressive after the DA offense. Bottom line is that no coach could come in here and in one year get his system installed and working effectively, that takes reps. This team is too old to be revamped, the fans have been played as fools to believe that this old team could be so radically changed so quickly.
