Sometimes Charles Barkley throws something out there and it actually makes sense. Halftime during the Mavs game he basically said "No way am I paying a guy $100 million dollars who isn't even the best player on my team," about Amar'e wanting the max contract. I know a lot of people on this board knock Nash, but arguably I think he's the best player on our team, and we don't pay him the max. Barkley said we HAVE to trade Amar'e, because we can't afford to give him the max contract or pay him $17 million on that option next year. This may not be news what Barkley said, but I thought he simplified the situation quite elegantly. Just wanted to give him some props on that.

sir charles is right.
the average fan might not agree.
but i think most of us on this board already know that amare is not a max player.

Amare needs to come to his senses and realize he will never get a max contract, not with all his injuries. I do fear the FO may sell low and we will wish we had kept him instead.

I don't like that sometimes "Chuck" seems to go out of his way to bash the Suns. However, I am one of the few that happen to agree with him more often then not. The "content" of his criticism is usually spot on.

the sickening part is that we all know that he could be if he wanted. everyone who wants to give him the max is just waiting for the switch to click and for him to dominate. he talks like he wants to, and he'll sometimes put out the effort.

everyone is afraid that if he leaves this team, it'll click....but if he stays here, we all know that we'll just see the same old crap from him.

I am not so sure that switch is available anymore, not one that stayed on always and not at both end of the floor. This is not the same Amare that was drafted, you cant go through all that injuries and not be impaired, somehow.

I have to agree with Sir Chunky on this one. Amare is not a max player. He is not in the same echelon as a Wade, LBJ, Howard, etc. His best option would be to exercise his option for next season. I'm not sure anyone is going to want to pay him $20+ mil/season.

he doesnt have to be the same person he was when we drafted him to score 25 points and grab 10 boards. he still has the talent....but it is clear that on the court he either lacks the motivation or confidence in himself to do it.

At this point, I think it's more that he "could have been" a max player than that he "could be" a max player. Maybe he will change his habits and round out his game in the next few years, but what motoivator exists to make him do that? Wanting a max contract hasn't made him do it. Being on a contender hasn't made him do it. Playing with a multiple MVP winner who makes everyone better hasn't done it. Short of him specifically going into a Garnett-Pierce-Allen type situation and checking his ego, I don't see it happening.

Chuck doesn't bash, he criticizes because he loves. I truly believe he would love to see the Suns organization win a championship one day, he just disagrees with the tactics we've employed to go about trying to do so, and so far he's been right.

If there is an option yr. I'd give him the $$ for that one year rather than get squat back for him (or pay him a new max deal). Or maybe that ups his value and we should expect more in return.

The option is a player option. It's up to Amar'e, not the Suns, whether he returns.

Personally, I know Amar'e is looking for a big payday, but he's going against some REAL All Stars in the free agent market. I don't know how many people would pay him $17 million, which is VERY GOOD money, and then he would be hitting the market and not have to compete with the Lebron Jameses in the free agent market. What do I know, it seems his manager is intent on Amar'e hitting the free agent market.

2 points. If he takes his player option he'll be trying to sign when the new CBA is negotiated. That means possibly not having a contract during a lockout and then having a smaller one both in years and value if the new CBA goes how everyone is predicting.

Secondly, a bunch of teams are going to have cap space. After Wade, Bosh, and LBJ have signed that fourth team with max money available is gonna sign Amare there is no doubt.

Soooo......basically there's no way Amare exercises his option for next year.....iYo?

Yeah, i have no doubt he's going to become a FA. If he does, he maybe knows something about his health he isn't telling anyone.
