here's the thing: i hate kobe, i hate the lakers, i hate rape. on the other hand, i love the suns, i love good jokes, i love consensual sex.

all that being established, can we please stop with the kobe/rape jokes?

don't get me wrong, i could give a flying fork about kobe or his itty bitty feewings. but we suns fans are better than these jokes. we hate the lakers, so clearly we are bright people. our smack should be fresh and intelligent. at this point, a kobe rape joke is the equivalent of someone being called "phil" when they promise pictures.

to a lakers' fan, a joke of this nature will not serve to smack them, but rather it garners a big . think about it, suns fans, what's your reaction every time an idiot lakers fan posts this:

my issue is that the "kobe is a rapist" smack is boring and trite. i like my smack to be fresh and funny, much like suns fans. all i'm asking is that we elevate our smack to the level appropriate to our fandom.

Fresh funny smack is good, no doubt, but there's also pleasure in seeing the same old people answer the latest "Kobe is great--he scored 50" proclamation with the same old trite "yes, but he's a rapist." As for Suns fans, Bell's shot a dagger 3 at least 50 times--who wants to see one more? Me--I could handle 10 a gamewithout boredom just fine.

Well, frankly, I don't know if he's a rapist and neither does anybody but he and that girl. He made the typical move of the celebrity criminal [or, to be fair, arrested celebrity]--he threw in a legion of lawyers, a passel of PR types, and his army of goonfans, and screwed up the justice system so much that I would not trust any conclusion it came to. My response is to fall back on the second line of analysis: If it defends itself like a celebrity rapist (lies and all) and if its fans defend it like a celebrity rapist (death threats and all), it's a celebrity rapist. Take one step over the line, even to commit a little innocent adultery, and you put your aura in jeopardy forever. It's like commenting on his personality--at this point, I doubt even he can tell where his real personality ends and his PR aura begins. When he swings an elbow, he's not simply a A-hole, he's a celebrity A-hole--how many of the elbow swing stories are planted by his own PR? Who knows?

first off, i'm not even going to address the "raja making 3's" is the same as repeating the same kobe rape joke; that's a ridiculous comparison, at best.

Your "takes" are just so boring and played out, that's all. Same thing, year after year. Blah blah, Kobe's a rapist. Maybe it plays at your local bar with the usual knuckleheads. Come up with a witty barb and I'll probably laugh. Hell, Donald and I come up with teh funnies all the time during Lakers games. "Ah man, Kobe's prison tats have him fired up tonight" or "Who's that chick?" (referring to Kwame Brown).
