Same with Kobe. It seems like much of the griping about the guy is directed at what you percieve his personality to be. And thats just a testament to his ability as most people can't find a true flaw to his game.
I just see him as Micheal Jordan without the great marketing team behind him. Like Micheal he is arrogant, brash, and manically competitive. And thats part of their greatness and drive to get better. The biggest difference is that Kobe is not very mature in learning that his teammates can help enhance his legacy if he just puts in a little more effort. But i think that ill come in time. IMO he is the second most talented guard i have ever seen play. He works his ass off and deserves our respect as basketball fans.
I couldn't agree with you more. I really don't understand why people hate Kobe so much. The other day, after the Game 7 victory, Suns fans here posted a picture of Kobe cupping his hand to his ear while the US Airways center chanted "Kobe sucks" in unison, and people here saw it as evidence that Kobe is cocky? How about I go to any one of your workplaces and chant "You suck! You suck!" and see exactly how you feel.
I don't know if I've ever seen Kobe Bryant do or say something derrogatory about or towards another NBA player unless he was responding to something that somebody else started. Whenever Shaq took pot-shots at Kobe, you rarely heard anything from Kobe. One time it finally pissed Kobe off enough that he responded and called Shaq fat and lazy. Is that Kobe's fault? Just the other week, when Kobe made the "Who is this kid? Do I know this kid?" comments, he was responding to Bell's comments about how Kobe was a "pompous, arrogant individual." Should Kobe have responded by saying, "Well, I disagree, but he has the right to his opinion and I respect him for voicing it."? The previous day, even after Bell had thrown kobe by the neck to the floor, Kobe had said that he thought Bell was a pretty good defender and that he didn't want anything on the court to spillover outside of basketball. Bell initiated the war of words.
I have no idea what kind of person Kobe Bryant is outside of basketball. I don't like the fact that he cheated on his wife, but other than that he seems like a nice person who has grown up since then. I know that, despite all of the unsubstantiated claims made on these boards about how Bryant has the maturity level of a 13-year old, after season-ending exit interviews in LA today, everyone, from Phil Jackson to Jerry Bus to Brian Cook to Lamar Odom, was in agreement about how much improved Bryant has become as a leader and a teamate. I guess if 26 guys on a website dislike Kobe because he tried to beat the Phoenix Suns, though, it's not the worst thing in the world.
