I saw an article where someone gave the opinion that the KG trade is going to make Kobe step up his demands to be traded. Hmmm.....

Of course the Lakers would be stupid to trade Kobe to a conference and even division rival. Mitch K. isn't THAT stupid, is he?

Stupid has nothing to do with it. The Lakers don't want Marion so there is no way to make a deal that does not include Amare which will not happen.

Diaw + Barbosa + Atlanta pick works I think.

What WOULD be close when you're talking about trading for Kobe? He's the best player on the planet. The unfortunate thing for the Lakers is that they'll be put in the position of weakness in any trade. If the lakers do end up trading Kobe, they'll end up getting less than they give.

Sure, but they'll get something of value. The Suns' only remaining assets with positive value are Stoudemire, Barbosa, and the Atlanta pick. Stoudemire won't be traded, and Barbosa and the pick aren't nearly enough, even if there were some way to make the numbers work out.

True, because of the BYC. Forgot about that.

Actually not even then. Bryant makes $19.5 million this season, so the Suns would have to get close to $16 million just to fit into the 125% rule. Diaw (if we ignore the BYC problem) is at 9.0 and Barbosa is at 5.6, so that's quite a bit short.

Why doesn't Shawn have any positive value, elindholm? Or Raja?

I was wondering how long it'd take to get a Kobe thread now that KG is gone.

He's not coming to PHX, but perhaps a team like the Bulls would take a second look at aquiring him now that KG is in the East.

A few weeks ago people would not have believed that KG was going to Boston, either. To be honest I don't think we'll be trading for Kobe myself. But dammit if it isn't fun to speculate and dream. And it's something to talk about.

Ok fine, throw in Pike and it works. (again, ignoring BYC)

the only way this could ever happen is if a) Boris ends up being productive again next year, b) Barbs continues to shine c) the Hawks stink and get a top 3 pick and d) the Lakers are pathetic again and Kobe has them over a barrel next summer and e) sadly we don't win the title this year. only then could I see that kind of deal working. But still, I'd be shocked if LA ever dealt him within the Conference, but then again, he does have a no-trade clause and has shown the propensity to be enough of a jack-ass to demand to go one place and one place only.

still, that's a lot of things that need to fall into place and it assumes we don't win it next year which would just suck.

I agree it is a pipe dream, just like KG coming here was.

Would it be possible for the Suns to help facilitate Kobe to Chicago?

I know you can't combine a TE with a player, but could we take Chris Duhon from Chicago with our exception and then have Chicago and LA do all the rest of the trading?

I think we still need a PG and Duhon has a decent shot and Assist/TO ratio. And not playing Kobe 10 times a year would be a plus.

Welcome aboard.

Duhon gets brought up a lot, but his shooting is not good enough for the way the Suns play. Last season he shot only 40.8% from the field and 35.9% for three for 7.2 ppg in 24.4 minutes and 4.0 assists per game.

For a guy known as a floor general, Duhon's assists per minute played does not knock your socks off: 0.164 per minute. Boris Diaw had 0.154 and he wasn't playing PG.

Did anyone else see Kobe on the Jimmy Kimmel show? Most of the interview was chit chat, but then near the end Jimmy says something along the lines of "I know you can't talk about it but I just want you know as a long life Laker fan, I want to see you retire in Purple and Gold." Kobe doesn't say anything but just gives an awkward smile. Kimmel then says "I just want you to think about us when you make your decision". And Kobe says "Thank you" and nods.

Its gonna get real interesting as the offseason draws to a close. The trade demand isn't officially off the table, but the destinations for Kobe are limited:

Bulls-Would have to gut their whole team because the Lakers are not gonna take on Benny Wallace's contract, leaving Kobe back at square one.

New York-I think they have a good chance

Memphis-I'm only listing them because of that one Blazers announcer who "leaked" the proposed trade of Gasol/MIller for Kobe but they've since picked up Navarro for Gasol.

Phoenix-Marion, Raja or Barbosa, ATL Pick?

As long as Kobe leaves the Lakers, I'm gonna love the trade, wherever he ends up.
