Dude, we've had our third option at MLB starting. And I won't even try to argue that we have a run stopping tackle, or that we have great guards. What you said though was wrong. Partially right is usually wrong.

If we're talking "partially wrong," then what evidence do you have to back up your assertion that Hayes is a good MLB?

He was kicking ass before he got hurt. Our defense was playing better.

I think he is better then the others that have been playing as well.

But,

He was kicking butt? :koolaid:

I guess that would be pretty hard to measure in the short time that he played before his injury. I'll give you that, but it was good enough to say that he is good. Not premier (yet), but good.

Then we agree to disagree. I think Hayes sucks

We also barely saw Yusef Scott play. There are reasons why some players never see playing time when they're healthy. He was a backup on a 4-12 team, and 6-10 football team. Most cases, that's a bad player.

Would I like Hayes to come back this/next year healthy and dominate? Of course I would. But I know it won't happen. The dude couldn't beat out McKinnon 2 years running, and it's Cardinal luck (or tradition, however you look at it) to only have 1 good linebacker at a time. So karmatically speaking he can't be good :D

The article said the quote was ny NT Darnell Dockett, so I guess Kolo is the UT. From Kolo's tone it sounds like he knows that he won't be getting a ton of snaps.

So he played on a bad team and that makes him a bad player? Can't say I see the logic there...

Understandable... they run at Fatty P, they run away from Davis . :D

Sorry, you are wrong.

They aren't running away from Davis....he is just that out of position.

To say Russel Davis is better than Fatty Pat is just crazyness.

So since the Vikings are so bad at run defense I guess Davis is better than Kevin Williams, too.

Madness.

No, he didn't even barely make it on the field on a bad team when healthy. That makes him a bad player

In his 32nd NFL game he finally got the start over McKinnon. If he was such a great middle linebacker, why didn't we use him more in those first 31 games?

The homerism for this guy when he's done absolutely nothing in the NFL is intense. Let's talk again when he gets 100 tackles in a season.

I agree

to a degree Vince, my man. However, after talking with a couple of teammates from the D I get the impression that he has great tools. It appears that the mental aspect of the game was what was holing him back and he was finally getting "unstuck", making the right calls etc.
He is also considered to be a vicious hitter and relentless in pursuit.
Many of our guys are very young and need just a bit more time to shine.
I think Hayes will.

I guess the "smily" was lost on you...

(If I understand correctly: The fact that the CARDS are giving up 4.7 yards per carry is Davis' fault... but, that Minn. gives up the same is eveybody but Fatty Pat's fault... OK, fine...)

Inqiring minds need to know!

he's the defensive tackle that lines up directly across the line of scrimmage from the offense's center, or in the "A" gap (between the center and guard).

He's usually the big plugger type of player, and since he's the front/center of the defense he's called the "nose guard" or "nose tackle".

I agree with this too. Like I've said before I want the damn team to do well. I hope Hayes develops into a good player. He had a few good plays in preseason before he went down that showed flashes (unfortunately we've all seen that before with guys like Pace, Stoney Case, Clyde Simmons, Parsons, etc.). I hope he does well, but the core of my frustration is that we have lackluster players manning some of the most important jobs on the field. You can't, just can't go into a season without a powerful nose tackle and strong, run-stopping MLB and expect to do anything. You have to be able to stop the run. You HAVE TO.

On the same line of thinking, you can't go into the season with an undersized, underpowered guard (wells), a series of injured centers, a rookie guard, and a matador for a right tackle. This offensive line, give 'em credit, they're not bad as pass blocking (unless it's 3rd down), but they're terrible and disgusting at run blocking and sustaining blocks. It's like no one ever taught them leverage.

Like Jeremy Green said yesterday, we need one more offseason to build our guts, our middle. We need a NT, MLB, OLG, ORT, one more year of development for Step and Brown (who I think will dominate when he finally gets the NFL game), and we need Leonard Davis to reach into his butt and pull his head out. He should dominate, but he doesn't. He's one of the 5 biggest men in the NFL, yet plays without fully utilizing his strength & size.

Actually Hayes played very well at the end of the 2003 season when he started due to injuries at other LB positions. That's what had everyone excited about his prospects.

He didn't start ahead of McKinnon in '04 because Green figured he needed a year to get the McGinnis out of him. :D
