For as much as a disliked his hiring and early moves I see no good coming from this.

I guess Gentry will be the new GM/ Coach for a year to save money like DA was forced to do.

I hope I'm wrong. I thought the Suns were just starting to turn the corner in the FO.

whoa. as a former Kerr basher, considering me stunned... and bummed. I thought he took his lumps but had turned into a really solid judge of talent.

I hope Griffin does not get the job. He recommended Marcus Banks as a PG to backup for Nash when DA was put in the GM/ Coach position for one season.

Just an off the wall thought. Could Kerr leaving have something to do perhaps with a division of thought regarding extending Amare.

This is interesting. Kerr probably didn't want to deal with the stress anymore and wanted more time with his kids. That's understandable. He likely got more money from the TV deal. Do broadcasters usually make more than GM's?

Kerr came here with no GM experience or even coaching experience and didn't do very well early, but to his credit he managed to turn things around with the JRich trade, Gentry promotion and Dragic/Lopez draft.

So who shall replace him? Will it be someone from within the organization again to save money? Will it be someone with no GM experience again?

Interesting theory. Would Kerr have been in favor of extending Amare or against it?

This is exactly what I was thinking on all counts. I think the only players Griffin drafted were Alando Tucker and DJ Strawberry.

And I have to think Kerr was being asked to do something he was against(even after he got done cleaning up the financial mess). Only other explanation is he really got low balled on his contract, which wouldn't be a good sign.

I've got to agree considering every report has it that Kerr expected to come back.

Not real happy with this turn of events. I thought this off-season was gonna be tough as it is. Now I'm fearing... hell... I don't even know what to fear, but right now with Sarver and Griffin in control, it ain't positive.

Thats what I've been wondering. Kerr seems astute enough to not want to overly invest in Amare but it seems odd that the rest of FO would really want to pay him 20mil per.

This is a horrible time for Kerr to leave. Not only is the Amare situation up in the air but FA starts July 1st. I guess Griffin will be running things temporarily but even his contract is up for renewal. If Sarver is just going to slap some mud up against the wall and hope it sticks... well this is not the right time.

D'Antoni, when he was GM and Kerr more recently were the basketball minds while Griffin always served as the cap expert/number cruncher. At least that is what gathered from past descriptions of the co-GM situations.

he wanted Kerr to take a pay CUT?!

I should have thrown that coffee on Sarver when I had the chance two years ago. Jesus Christ!

Looks like $arver strikes again.

http://twitter.com/WojYahooNBA

Looks like the Suns will be getting another green GM or it will be Griffin.

Hilarious. Penny wise, pound foolish as usual. Pretty shocking all around, it seemed like a given that he would be given an extension.

Mao, anyone else with U of A connections have the real story behind this one?

Actually I think Griffin is heavily involved in evaluating talent besides being a bean counter. As I recall he watches lots of scouting tape. The trouble is, I do not trust Griffin's decision making ability in regard to talent.

He only rebuilt a team that was two wins away from the finals...he obviously deserves a pay cut.

I gotta tell you, if by some stroke of luck, Lebron goes to the Clippers, I might just switch allegiances until $arver finally sells the team to someone who actually wants to win and has the money to do it. I've lived in LA for ten years now anyway and it would be great to root for the team that opposes the Lakers and actually has a shot to beat them. Might as well get in on the ground floor!

It's really almost comical at this point. I don't see why he won't just sell the team, seems like a lot of people that can actually afford to own and operate a NBA team are looking to buy.
