Sarver is in the wrong business. It's like he's big enough to be an NBA owner, but not big enough to avoid running it like a different business. I hope he IS aiming to sell the team for a tidy profit, because then maybe he actually will.

I have a real hard time believing that one.

Why? Kerr himself has always referred to how nice his television career was--I don't think it is that surprising if he wanted to go back.

Not saying it's true (consider the source), but I don't see why it's hard to believe.

Gambo just tweeted that there was no request for a paycut--Kerr just wanted to go back to TV.

Riiight...after proclaiming time and time again that he wanted to come back and expected to be extended. I'm sure it's a last second change of heart.

Best case scenario? If he is indeed planning on selling the team, time to blow it up completely.

How are you going to do that without a GM capable of getting something in return in a trade?

i don't buy this. all reports were that he wanted to come back.

if we didn't have previous proof of Sarver's penny pinching, maybe I could buy this... but we do and Kerr looked like he was having a ball during the playoffs.

Maybe Sarver will become an owner/ GM. I don't know if this has ever happened before

Jerry Colangelo.

While I certainly hope Sarver sells the team I honestly don't think it's likely. Most team sales go through towards the end of a season or beginning of the off season so the new owners can build a team how they want.

I'm sure the party line will be that Kerr just wanted to go back to TV and spend time with his family, but I don't buy that for one second.

I have a hard time believing that this is the ONLY reason he is leaving. True, he always liked his TV career, but I can't fathom him leaving just because of that. I truly believe that Sarver has tied his hands so tight financially this year with signing players that Kerr knew it would be impossible to put a competitive team on the floor. So he is walking away while he has some pride in knowing that he got us to the WCF this year and can still hold his head up. Why stay in a place where you know there is no chance in hell you can do your job.

And here we go again with the "proof" of Sarver's penny pinching. What about the proof that he wasn't penny pinching? There is plenty of evidence for both.

Yeah. All these assumptions are premature to say the least. We all know that Kerr reluctantly took the job in the first place. I for one didn't expect him to be our GM for too long. I think he stepped in as a favor to a buddy to try to put the Suns over the top with a little defense and rebounding. I think he stuck around to right the ship after the Shaq, D'Antoni, and Porter fiascos. It's a good time for him to leave in my opinion, because despite the amazing season this team is still on its way down and possibly losing its all-star power forward.

You don't think he could have said that as leverage to get more money out of a TV deal. Not saying which side is true or not just that there is easily a legit reason for Kerr to say what he said and still want to leave for TV.

what's even more disconcerting is this: what kind of message does it send to the rest of the league that you're general manager, a guy who has competed at the highest level and is and has always been a fierce competitor, would rather be out of the league with a microphone in his hand than GM this team?

Not a very good one. I'm sure potential GM candidates will be lining up at the Suns door for this job......NOT!!

It's sad how much of a circus the Suns organization has become.

Worst of all to me no draft coverage on the web site in the last 8 years pretty much..

Griffin's contract expires as well.

This sounds logical in the context of past Sarver behavior. However, I so hoped the Suns FO was beyond this.

I just don't see this. Kerr did ALL the dirty work and got a ton of flak. When things went bad their were rumors he was going to resign and go back to TV. I don't see why anyone, especially someone like Kerr would go through all that then leave just as his labor was bearing fruit.

Me too....but it doesn't appear to be so. Hell, Sarver should just can Griffin too, then he can become the owner, GM and Pres of operations. Just think of all the cash he would be saving....:hammer:

I bet Gentry's contract with the Suns is on the cheap. I wonder what happens when other teams start to express interest in him.

I hope we would go for Portland's GM rather than go for Griffin.

The Suns are not going to pay any large amount for a GM. So I expect the Suns will hire a GM on the cheap. Don't be surprised if Gentry now gets the GM title or as I suspect it will go to a loyal yes man in Griffin.

Sarver has already been quoted as saying it wasn't due to the pay cut. Busted.

Pritchard ain't coming. He is one of the higher paid GMs I believe and despite his nearly unlimited resources hasn't done a whole lot.

Really I don't see any credible GM wanting to come to the Suns. The good GMs that work cheap(Presti, Riley) only do so because they are given full control which I don't see happening with the Suns. The other good GMs will just cost more than I think the Suns would spend.

Do you have a link about Sarver telling Kerr he would have to take a pay cut? Nothing on azcentral as yet concerning a pay cut.

Coro's newest blog has a direct quote from Sarver.

http://www.azcentral.com/sports/Blog/PaulCoro/87062

There are mixed messages out of the building on whether Kerr was asked to take a pay cut, as is being asked of other Suns staffers whose contracts are up at the end of the month.

Asked how much finances played into Kerr's decision, Sarver said, "It was a small part. I'm not sure it was part of it at all."

I say Sarvers quote pretty much seals the deal.

I tend to trust Coro and he just crapped in my Cheerios.
