They just said on suns countdown Kurt Thomas has a stress fracture in his foot, and is immobilized for 6 weeks. They stressed immobilized, meaning he's not guaranteed to be back in 6 weeks, and can't do anything for that 6 week period.

It sounded like they don't even know if he'll be back this year. As up and down as he has been at times, the suns have zero chance to win it all without him.

That sucks! Shades of Penny and Kidd. They played what, 20 or so games together? Like to see both AMare and KT on the court during playoffs. :)

Wow...this is a huge loss. The Suns were already thin in terms of bigs...but now KT out, Amare's return being unknown and how healthy he is, Brian Grant out...this is not good at all. I guess we'll find out what Skita is made up of now :thud:

Hurry back, Brian Grant. I got the impression from the pregame that Brian is still a couple of weeks away.

He and amare should come back around the same time (around 2 weeks from now).

Lets just hope Diaw and Burke can hold down the big man responsibilities during that time

This is from todays news, before the information on Kurt.

Suns — Phoenix is looking for a sixth straight win and their eighth win in nine games this month. Steve Nash (hamstring, knee) and James Jones (wrist) will both play. Center Nikoloz Tskitishvili sprained his right ankle in practice Friday and his availability is unknown.

TREATMENT FOR STRESS FRACTURES:

All stress fractures (conservative therapy)
Modified rest for six to eight weeks (or until pain-free for two to three weeks); activities of daily living and limited walking are permitted
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
Cryotherapy
Stretching and flexibility exercises
Cross-training (non-weight-bearing exercise)

Tibial stress fractures
Aircast splinting if more severe symptoms or if not resolved with conservative treatment
Casting for mid-shaft fractures until pain-free and radiographic evidence of healing
Surgery (intramedullary nailing and/or grafting) if no improvement after six months of treatment (or for certain elite athletes)

Metatarsal stress fractures
Wood-soled shoe or casting for four to six weeks
Special attention should be given to fifth metatarsal fractures to prevent nonunion

Fibula stress fractures
Usually heal in four to six weeks with conservative therapy and rarely require surgery

Navicular stress fractures
Six weeks of short leg non-weight-bearing cast, followed by four to six weeks of transitional weight-bearing cast
Gradual return to full weight bearing with a semirigid shoe
Intramedullary nailing if nonunion or delayed union
Return to sport in 16 to 20 weeks

Femoral stress fractures
Conservative therapy for compression fractures (return to sport in eight to 14 weeks)
Internal fixation for tension-type fractures

The one positive is that as long as we hold onto the #2 seed, our road to the wcf finals will be as easy as we could possibly ask for (not saying we'll definitely make it). Giving guys more time to heal up, and work themselves into the rotation.

It seems to be getting worse. Dijon is out indefinitely with a knee injury that will require surgery and Skita is out at least two weeks with an ankle problem.

The Suns could definitely use some help, at least for awhile. Hopefully Grant, Amare and KT can all return this season.

See link: http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=ap-suns-thomas&prov=ap&type=lgns

Sorry if this more detailed information is a repeat.

Maybe they should get Tim Thomas after he is bought out from Chicago?

Wow, I'm very surprised to learn of Thomas's injury. Historically, he is one of the most durable big men in the league. In fact he had missed only 12 games total since the start of the '98-'99 (actually just '99) season.

That is rotten luck.

I haven't come up with a better idea yet. Willis would probably be more effective than Elden Campbell.
