Should the Suns hang on to Kurt Thomas knowing that he does bring toughness down low and an ability to at least make Tim Duncan work for his points, or do the Suns try to dump his deal and look for someone cheaper, such as PJ Brown?

It's no secret the Suns want his deal off the books, but it's risky with the limited number of big men out there who are available, and whether or not you can sign them to a cheap deal.

What would you like to see done in regards to Kurt?

Trade him to Washington for Etan Thomas. Hoopshype reported that Washington was shopping him or Hayward. Washington gets an expiring contract...we save another 2 mil this year....and Etan can run, rebound, and block shots.

I have always liked Etan. Like Steven Hunter before him, he has hands of stone though.

The Suns tried to dump KT on draft day, and they couldn't get it done. (They wound up having to dump James Jones instead.) I don't think they have any chance to move KT's contract now, whether they want to or not.

I say go, ONLY if they have assurances that PJ Brown will sign in Phoenix. If they move KT and don't get PJ, they'd be up a creek.

Well, the only caveat is there are several teams under last year's cap now, and teams may be waiting to see where the cap adjusts before deciding whether to pursue free agents or make a deal. The Grizz, Bucks, Magic, and Bobcats are all now currently $10 million or more under last year's cap. That latter 3 could easily take on all of Kurt's last year and still sign role players on the FA market.

Is Melvin Ely available? I know the Spurs traded for him last year knowing that the Suns were interested, and I read somewhere where he said he wished he would've taken the Suns deal a few weeks ago. Did he sign a 1 year deal with Charlotte, or is he locked up for a few years?

I say get PJ for cheap and do something with KT although I don't think we will be able to at this point.

I don't like KT or PJ but would rather have PJ for a lot less money.

Too bad we couldn't have worked a deal for Channing Frye. I can't believe I am saying this, but I really would like to see him in a Suns uni.

Ely.

Sucks.

Do you think any of those teams would take KT without Atlanta's pick?

Ely is an unrestricted free agent.

After the Spurs acquired Ely mid-season, he played a grand total of 65 minutes for them, including zero in the playoffs.

He'd be better than Chris Mihm.

I've never really seen him play. I just know the Suns liked him, and he's gotta have some talent if the Spurs would trade for him to keep him away from here.

I guess I would agree with that. I do like Kurt though. He brings something that the Suns lack. I would like him to stay. However, if it came down to having him or PJ (at a cheaper price) I would go with PJ. Especially, if that would free up money to add to this bench.

I have no idea, I just thought it was interesting that there are suddenly more realistic trading partners than before the draft. There are 11 teams under last year's cap. Sacramento will probably be team No. 12 once the new cap is announced.

I do love and would miss that nice jump shot KT is almost automatic at. You know right at the corner of the free throw line, kinda.

I just wish the guy wasn't so laid back and not vocal enough. He needs to bring more fire and intensity to help with the intimidation factor.

Honestly, I think that with our roster as is, we need both KT and PJ.

In the playoffs, I'd have to agree. During the regular season, the Suns can probably win close to 60 without either.

Last year there were people saying the Suns should dump KT because they got to the WCF without him the year before. After six months of saying "wait til they play the Spurs", it was a revelation that "yes they needed him and another one too".

We need KT. He was so big late and in the playoffs. He hit almost every big open jumper. I don't think we could find someone to replace him.

I just have a problem with all of this talk about replacing KT and Shawn. Sure we might be better long term, but will we be better next year... most likely not. Nash is getting older, I see next year as our best, and possibly final chance with Nash.

If Sarver was willing to spend big the Suns could easily trade Kurt for a better player with a longer contract.

His value will go up at the trade deadline.

uh, who the hell was saying the Suns should dump KT last year? I can't remember anyone on this board saying anything like that. Seriously, some times, Ihave no idea where some of the stuff you say comes from.

does anyone else remember people saying the Suns should dump KT?

No way. I think people have been adamant about supporting him on the team even with his huge salary because of his usefulness against the Spurs. If only he were played correctly...
