Wants to sign a two year extension to be the backup in AZ for four total years.

http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/story/95583

Warner indicated Tuesday that he probably would like to sign a two-year contract extension. Such a move would keep him in Arizona for four more seasons, counting the one that starts next month.

“It’s a definite possibility,” Warner said.

While he still holds out hope he could be a starter again, he indicated his family likes Arizona and that he is comfortable with his teammates and the general situation.

“If they (Cardinals officials) felt comfortable with me and wanted to have me, right now I’m feeling so good I would consider an extension on my contract or another contract.”

That, a bit more and some stuff on Breaston being the stud that he is...

No only do I not see anyone on the roster behind KW that could play back-up, I don't even see anyone that I have faith will develop into a descent back-up.

I hope they do extend him. He seems to me to be the perfect back-up QB.

Go Cards!!!

2 more years?

Kurt has done a fabulous job, but I'm not sure he should get 2 more years. Despite what others here think, I feel he is overpaid for a backup QB. If he were to accept maybe 1.5 - 2M year, I'd have to do it though.

How about 3 mil a year?

Cuts our cap 1 mil per season and gets him more overall money in the long term.

I'd compromise at 2.5M. No doubt that he is a capable backup, and has done well this preesason, but the biggest knock on him is his fumbling. He put the ball on the ground again in the last game.

Maybe, but would you want us to go into the season one hit away from Boyd or Korrodi? Warner is worth every penny, IMO.

Not particularly. That doesn't mean that we should overpay to have a good backup. There are plenty around the league that I could find, (that may even be cut from their own team) that would be better than Boyd/Korrodi. Heck, Andrew Walter will likely be cut, and he is clearly better. Troy Smith might be cut too. I'm sure I could think of at least 5 more.

Give him the extension, as long as he takes a significant pay cut. Otherwise, no thanks. 4 more years at 1.5 million a year would be more than fair.

He doesn't need 4 more years, 3 at the most. The 1.5M is exactly what I was thinking though.

Watching him this pre season has shown that he is as sharp as ever. With a better O-line and if Matt should go down IMO we have a starter coming in for him. I would like to see him signed for an extension. That would take pressure off that position for the next few years.

I agree that Kurt looks sharp in camp. I can see him being a reliable greybeard, with a ton of experience, good in the mentor role, and still able to be a baller, if the number one goes down. Sort of in the Steve Grogan or Steve Deberg mode. The tank just doesn't seem to run out.

Also I think of the days where we would turn to Dave Brown, or the like, to play back up and it seemed like the equivalent of choosing a random member of the audience to go under center. I don't need to see something like that again. If we can get a reasonable deal, Im all for it. Plus Kurt's a good guy.

1.5-2 million MAX extension - otherwise, this team has other glaring holes at starting positions that need to be filled.

Here's a thought. How about using some of that $4,000,000 a year to sure up the Oline and depth. That way you wouldn't need to care about the health of your BACKUP qb.

 ... 4 more years..... I like Kurt.. but won't he be collecting Social Security by then....

I mean, hes a good mentor and all... but the purpose of a back up QB is to be ready to go in at any time... I think he could do that this year.... maybe next year... but two years after that, We'd have to start paying for Broken Hip insurence every time he plays.....

PASS.... use the money on other things like depth and keeping our core together.....

How much cap space could they free up by extending Kurt?

Totally agree! You keep a guy like Warner around for more than just being a back-up. He's a tremendous role model. He's a terrific mentor to Matty. It's like having a combined back-up & QB coach in one...
Personally, I would love to see Warner wearing Cardinal Red for another 4 years. And $3million a year for all he brings is fine with me!

3M a year is too expensive for Warner now, let alone 4 years from now. Come on.
