I have nothing but respect for Warner, but honestly, I get shivers everytime he gets a snap, when he tries to roll out to avoid pressure.. it's intensified by a 1000 percent. Can anyone here honestly say they were not scared to death in the kneel-down formation? Thats just wrong, lol.

He stilll throws a damn nice ball when he has the time, but I really don't want to see him back unless the line is completely solidified, and has quality depth as well.

What our the options here?

No better backup options at QB are out there.

I say bring him back and have him as that veteran mentor.

Its his decision whether or not he will return....that is if he opts to retire....

We must not forgot that he's signed for 2 more years...and I dont think the Cardinals would be willing to release him and eat up the remainder of his contract....

I don't. He even hurts the running game by being really slow out of center to hand off the ball. Seriously, every running play we ran with him in looked bad and slow to develop.

He is the best backup we can probably have. Plus he played well enough to keep the Cards in the lead today. The guy is probably a good influence on Leinart. If he doesn't want to retire I have no problem with the guy being around as the backup.

He's the ideal backup. Veteran, knows the offense and WRs inside and out, already signed..... complete no brainer here. As dumb as the Cardinals seem to be at times, I still think this is a question only among the fans.

Possibly the best backup in the NFL

I must be the only one who thought the offense looked much much worse with Warner then it did with Leinart.

Warner should be the QB coach, not the backup QB. I didn't have faith in Warner winning games before, that doesn't change now.

All right, so we cut him and replace him with....?

I don't know. But I'd like to replace him with someone who would seem capable of winning some games. Can everyone honestly say they would feel comfortable with Warner starting a game from the beginning, not after being spotted a nice lead?

Name someone who would be a better backup next year. And if the words John and Navarre come out of your mouth your arizona sports fanship should be revoked jk.

I don't know who is out there, so I can't name anybody. But like I posted above, if you guys are comfortable with Warner getting extended playing time and starting games at 0-0 instead of with a nice lead then I guess he's a good backup. I don't have that faith.

Warner hadnt seen any live game action since 10/01...which is why he was out-of-sync....

Warner is the consummate team player...he never complained once since Leinart supplanted him as starter and has always been behind Matt from the outset.....

It's a moot point since he's still under contract for 2-more years and it's essentially his own decision what his future may hold......

He was out of sync earlier in the year when he was benched. I really want Warner to be a part of the team, still, because you are right about him being a true professional and not complaining. I'd like to see him as a coach next year.

Garcia, Jeff UFA Eagles
Gray, Quinn RFA Jaguars
Huard, Damon UFA Chiefs
Johnson, Doug UFA Bengals
Lemon, Cleo RFA Dolphins
Navarre, John RFA Cardinals
Rattay, Tim UFA Buccaneers
Schaub, Matt RFA Falcons
Simms, Chris UFA Buccaneers
Sorgi, Jim RFA Colts
Tuiasosopo, Marques UFA Raiders
Wright, Anthony UFA Bengals

Those are the 2007 QB free agents. The only one I would want over Warner is Schaub and he will be a starter somewhere. I have faith that if need be Warner could come in but Matt Leinart is the starter and its fine.

Garcia looks good at the moment, I think he will be looking for a starting job though.

Kerry Collins would be a respectable backup IMO.

The rest of the league must be salivating seeing John Navarre on this list. :sarcasm:

Well.....I contend what affected Warner (besides obviously Week 1) was the lack of continuity of the OL.... He had absolutely no time to properly position himself due to how unstable Step and Ross were...... Unfortunately, we never fully discovered how potent this offense can be (and more on a consistant basis) obviously due to the subpar level the OL was at the start of the season....

Finally, Green assembled an OL that is fully capable of being more effective on blocking both the passing/rushing game by putting better personnel out there at positions that better suits them respectively.....

I think the fears that people may still have of Warner whenever he is out there is still lingering from what transpired earlier in the season... and again.. for the most part.. it was something beyond his control....

I think Kurt shared in making the line look bad too, because as soon as Leinart was inserted as the starter the line magically started playing better. The running game really took off after the changes, but the pass blocking improved when Leinart took over. Kurt wasn't totally to blame, but he did hold onto the ball too long, that is, when he was actually able to still hold onto the ball.

I don't agree with that at all. The o-line didn't really start playing better until after the bye week. Even then, not magically different.

The first 3 1/2 games, Warner was sacked 12 times (1 every 11.25 pass attempts) while Leinart in the next 4 1/2 games until the bye was sacked 13 times (1 every 12.77 pass attempts). James averaged 3.09 ypa with Warner and 3.04 with Leinart in that timeframe. The sacks were a little better but the rushing game was a little worse. Overall, probably a bit better with Leinart in there but hardly "magical".

I think the team is definitely more inspired by Leinart as eveidenced today after he went out. False starts, holding, punt fumbles, etc. I thought Warner looked pretty good overall, especially for not having played in 10+ weeks. There were many 3rd down conversions and on the blindside sack, he didn't seem to bobble the ball at all. Not that that's a ringing endorsement but his ball handling was to the point where if he was sacked he was going to fumble earlier in the year. I think the tackiness of the gloves is a great benefit to whatever problem he has in that area. Hopefully he keeps wearing them...if he get's to play anymore.

Let's send Fred Wakefield into central Phoenix to buy a pound of grass and offer it to Quincy Carter to back up Leinart next year
