Do you seriously think Monti is going to do anything?
No he won't as he is not proactive. IMO although we are mostly negative on former GM Keim, he was proactive and would go after and get an edge rusher at this time if he was still in charge. I'm not saying he is a better GM just that he made moves during the season while MO is reluctant to do anything.

Passive type of gm is what Michael Bidwill was looking for

Nice insult. I guess I struck a nerve.
Wild you’d claim St Brown as anything but the number 1 there… also wild that you would take that as insult rather than a captain obvious statement. I guess I struck a nerve

I wouldn't expect anything soon, the trade deadline is next Tuesday. Unless someone is blowing you out of the water with a deal why do a trade already? It's in the seller's interest to let options dwindle and more parties show their interest. Plus there's another game this week which could lead to more injuries and more desperate teams. It's why most trades are done around the deadline.

The Uche trade was really dumb by the Patriots. Low return taken early, they could easily have got better had they waited. Chiefs bent them over.

Some possible recent draft picks that haven't worked out that I reckon might be available.

Myles Murphy - Bengals - Former first round pick is still only getting 40% of snaps and hasn't lived up draft position, is 4th on the depth chart.
Isaiah Foskey - Saints - Last years 2nd round pick is playing 6% of snaps and is 5th on their depth chart.

Both of these would be reclamation projects where you hope a change of scheme suits them.

I don't want to hear about how hard MO worked to get a deal for an edge rusher if he fails at it.

I don't care about your hard work I care about your results.
And you know we are going to hear all of the excuses. "Have to have someone who wants to trade" "Needs to be the right fit" "Compensation demands were just too high"

Not sure we know enough about Monti to make this statement yet. Team wasn’t 4-4 this time last year.

You obviously have me confused with someone else. I never says anything about St Brown. I actually agree with you that he is their number 1.

Those are not excuses...hearing them as such is a mindset. They are reasons.

Posit a what if...
What if the only trade available is Azeez...but the giants recognize desperation and have multiple suitors... so their bottom line price is a 2nd and a 5th...or go crazy and say they are demanding a 1st....
You, me, and many others would bash the hell out of Monti for making either of those deals....without even an "at least he is trying" consolation.

The deal has to be there and it has to make sense.

From my perspective any deal that includes one of our top picks this year has to involve a name like Crosby, Parsons,Garrett, etc...granted I would give all three of our top picks plus some for any of those guys.
But we can't be paying top tier picks for third tier players regardless of public perception or current team needs.

Not to mention last season was obviously a tear it down and establish a culture year.
This year we are building.
I'm mostly curious to see if Monti trades for a long term guy or a one year rental

The tail-between-the-legs approach to FA tells me all I need to know about him. Conservative to a fault. Probably has to conserve $$$ because of Dollar Bill's son Mikey.

Playing above our level despite a feeble halfhearted effort to "build."

I mean, imagine what our record could be if Monti had actually fully utilized the offseason and cap space? Maybe we'd be competitive in the 2 blowout games? Maybe we topple the Bills?

Not trying to poke a bear, Stout. Is it possible we are playing right where we should be and Monti is more adept at identifying undervalued talent than any of us give him credit for?

It just seems that when we finally start playing well, we always assume its in spite of ourselves. COuld we have done more? Of course. But perhaps we are seeing the development of a bunch of lunch pail guys that truly will represent the depth this team sorely needs, as we continue to add higher end (hopefully!) talent thru the draft?

I guess the bottom line for me is, perhaps this rag tag band of nobodies are only nobodies because they've never been given the chance to grow. And here, they are. Heres hoping I guess.

We aren’t nobodies on offense (Conner, MHJ, McBride, PJJ, Murray).

We are on defense and especially the DLine. I actually think our corners are who you are describing. They have talent and are young. They would look 1000x better if we had a pass rush. MO got the benefit of the doubt his first year in free agency. This season was an absolute disappointment with his signings and leaving the amount of cap space we have on the table. Meanwhile we can’t touch a QB without doing zero blitz’s.

If the defensive front 7 didn't look like a hardened pile of dog crap stitched together with spit and baling wire, I would agree with you. His "big" FA signings on the DL were stinkers before they got injured. The DL and Edge groups lack any kind of pass rush ability. He was counting on the crappy new DL signings, Darius R, and Ojulari somehow going pro bowl as our top talent there. Not a good plan, not sitting on all that cap space.

I fully believe Nick Rallis is a wizard coaching this D, and that Gannon has the team believing and playing hard.

Good point on the offense. I think Monti was just fine there. He just criminally under supported the defensive part of the roster.

The key is finding a team that wants to trade and has a player that you are interested in that is actually available. Also that player needs to fit the Cardinals system and not cost too much.
The key is not putting yourself in this position and yet Monti has. When you do, it is on you to figure a way out.

No. They are excuses. Putting yourself in a hole and then coming up with reasons you are staying in it are excuses. If you set yourself up for success, then you have the luxury of picking and choosing the "right" moves.

Tearing it down was a choice, not a necessity. You don't get credit for making decisions that make your goals harder to achieve.

Oops, I guess I should have thrown the sarcasm emoji on there. It was supposed to be a joke related to this post just above it.

I'd wager that Monti thinks the team is ahead of schedule and is looking at what happened when the Giants overextended themselves through a fluke playoff appearance. I also think he's very aware of what the Vikes have accomplished with a patient build.

4-4 is nice but it's probably a fluke result.
