I was listening to ESPN radio today and they were talking about a huge blowout between Martz and Turley. Apparently, Martz said Turley was faking his injury and stealing money from the Rams for not playing through the pain. Turley called the Dan Patrick show and admitted he dropped the F bomb about 50 times and also said to Martz "how do you know you're going to be here next year?". 3 hours later, Martz called NFL security on Turley. Turley said he is going to come back and play for the Rams because he likes the organization, but you have to figure Martz is going to release him.

Even though Kyle has done some stupid things, he is a mean, nasty right tackle that would instantly give our OL a mean streak. I would love it if we brought him in. He plays whistle to whistle and never gives up on his man no matter how far out of the play he is. There is some question as to how he'll heal though. Thoughts?

I think he's probably done. When he had the blowout with Martz, he was down to 240 lbs, 70 below his playing weight. Even if he can start working out today, full bore, can he be back by next season? I really doubt it. And, if he can't make it back next year, he'll be out two full seasons. Coming back after that much time out is almost unheard of, especially for an OT.

Rumor had it that he threatened to kill Martz, hence the call to NFL security. Turley is a hothead, but somebody will pay him if he is released.

He'd be an intresting prospect for a little above the veteran minimum, but then again if he's willing to take that there is something wrong with him and he is just trying to milk it. Pay him too much and he pushes to hard you're looking at wasted cap. For the right price though I think he'd be worth the risk. He's a angry man and a competitior. He also has loyalty to his team. Remeber one of his last games with the Saints? During a game with the Jets Duece was vicously facemasked and Turley retaliated by ripping the offending Jet players helmet off? Some of the guys doing the commentary (ESPN late game) actually comended him for sticking up for his boy. Turley was of course, ejected.

If I remember correctly the penalty killed the Saints chances of winning that game. Stick up for 'em, but do it with your helmet on!!!

If he's healthy? In a minute. Saw a TV interview with him, and loved how he explained all of his actions. If he's not healthy? No way, Jose. If so, he has the mean streak our O-line needs.

I heard the same interview and actually thought of starting this thread. Turley is still pretty young (28 I think) and was guilty of nothing more than defending himself against that idiot Martz who told Turley he was stealing money from the Rams and some other choice words. Would I give up much for this guy given his injury and slow recovery? No. Would I want him on our O-line? Definitely.

To me, it all comes down to his injury. If he's healthy, we HAVE to pick him up. This guy would be on a mission to play well next season thanks to the "mad scientist". Just imagine how awesome he'd play against the Rams.

Reports would indicate to me that he's done. His back is totally trashed.

If healthy, hell yes bring him in! He's probably not worth as much money as the Rams paid him but he's damn good.

I'm too lazy to bring out the BHIICH sign.

The back problem represents a huge risk. And Turley apparently can be a huge pain in the butt.

But it's usually a positive, competitive pain; and, if the Docs can find a way to heal the back, he might be precisely what the doctor ordered to energize our tepid O-line.

So the real issues boil down to: (a) realistically, can the back heal?, (b) is his attitude so far over the cliff that he becomes "high maintenance?" (c) would he want to come here? and (d) do Rod and Dennis view him as someone who can help our team?

I agree, Healthy, definately. It's hard to tell with a back injury tho. Anybody that listens to Slayer to get up for a game gets my vote.

Ya, our O-Line needs an intemidator or 2, so bring him in for an evaluation and then sign him to a 1-year deal with attainable insentives [to prove he's healthy and still has passion for the game].
