The free agent market is about to take a major hit before it even begins.

FOXSports.com has learned that the Titans and Pro Bowl DE Kyle Vanden Bosch are nearing a four-year contract that will keep the pass rushing maven in Nashville rather than test the free agent waters.

According to sources the contract calls for Vanden Bosch to receive about $15 million in guaranteed money. The former Arizona Cardinal is revered for his non-stop motor and pass rush savvy. He's also underrated against the run and re-signing him was a major step for the rebuilding Titans.

Vanden Bosch grabbed quarterbacks 12 ½ times this season for sacks and is in line for a major raise from the $540,000 he made in salary in 2006.

During this week's Pro Bowl he stood out by sacking Matt Hasselback and Michael Vick and had NFC players talking after the game about his intensity in the pass rush.

He was slated to become an unrestricted free agent. The deal has not yet been completed but those close to Vanden Bosch said it should be finalized within the next 24 to 48 hours.

Calls to Titans GM Floyd Reese have not been returned.

I hope this happens for him. For me, he's one of those players that are easy to pull for - unlike the Simeon Rice's of the world.

What are you talking about......KVB was already toast when Berry came.

Pardon. he actually was sopposed to play lde after Pace was drafted. Even in 2004 he was a rotational player at lde.

Still, I'm just pointing out that he was brought here to play rde

Berry was signed as a FA in 2004 to play RDE. Pace was drafted in 2003 to play RDE. Peppi Zellner was brought in in late 2003 along with Troy Hambrick from Oakland for "future considerations" to play LDE because KVB was deemed to be finished. KVB was cut in 2004 due to his injuries.

KVB is a strange situation. He had plenty of shots here in Arizona. I watched a lot of games where he didn't do much. Sometimes a change in scenery is what is needed.
Most experts said that it takes a full year before a player is 100% after a blown ACL. If that really is the case, then KVB was 100% healthy for the total of 3 games in his 4 years here. That might have had something to do with KVB never showing the same potential here.

HE HAD TWO, JUST TWO, injuries. He was slated to play behind our two starters, then ZELLNER? Pace and someone else. His firsat injury was a freak accident. There's no history of injury here.
Anyone who knows the injuries knows, as stated, one year out plus 1, then back to full speed. He just happened to get the un-freak accident the second year.
His kness were cleared by one of the best in the this type of unjury.
Had he been promised the number three spot in the rotation with chance to start if he showed up, he probably would have stayed.
Injury prone? Everyone is injury prone in a sport like this.
The TRUTH IS there are ALOT of people on this board that should be eating ALOT of their own words, "he's a bum, nothing better than camp fodder, never be a top notch DE" etc. etc. Many were even glad to see him go. So don't any of those of you who had those rumblings start back pedalling now. YOU WERE WRONG! About him. is ability AND what the injuries would do to him.
Fess up boys!

Easy, man. A lot of people were down on him, yes, but I don't recall it being spiteful. Cold hearted, yes, because he was no good due to injury, but I don't recall people hating the guy. I was one who wanted to get rid of him because he couldn't play. Well, more power to him for making it finally.

But, you making light of his injuries is silly. He has a major injury history now, and he is far more prone to further injury than is a healthy player. That's just the way it is.

KVB UPDATE_17Feb06

Football Friday, Feb. 17, 2006 Titans Reach Deal With Vanden Bosch
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The Tennessee Titans reached anagreement Thursday with defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch on amultiyear deal that will keep him off the free-agent market.
The move comes a year after the team took a gamble by signinghim to a one-year deal, and he responded with a career-high 12 1/2sacks.
Vanden Bosch earned the veteran's minimum of $540,000 in aone-year deal for 2005 after four injury-plagued seasons inArizona. Terms and the length of the deal weren't immediatelyavailable. The Titans scheduled a news conference for Friday.
The defensive end ranked fourth in the NFL in sacks in 2005, andhis 12 1/2 sacks were the best in a season for the Titans since 1999,when Jevon Kearse set an NFL rookie record with 14 1/2.
``We're very pleased to have Kyle here for the next severalyears,'' general manager Floyd Reese said in a statement.
``Last season he exemplified himself as an important part of ourdefense through his work ethic and intensity on and off the field. It helps us to get something worked out with him before freeagency, and I think both parties in this case were able toaccomplish what they wanted with the deal.''
Vanden Bosch didn't answer calls to his home. Messages for hisagent, Tony Agnone, weren't immediately returned.
The defensive end played the run well, rarely coming off thefield and finishing with 100 tackles, ranking second on the team.He was the first defensive lineman in the franchise to hit the marksince 1986, when Ray Childress and Richard Byrd did.
Vanden Bosch also had eight quarterback pressures, four forcedfumbles and recovered one fumble.
As an injury replacement for Miami's Jason Taylor in the ProBowl, Vanden Bosch had a game-high two sacks with two pressures andthree tackles for the AFC.
The 34th pick overall in 2001 by Arizona, Vanden Bosch tore theACL in each knee in different seasons, limiting him to 35 games infour seasons and five career sacks. That attracted the attention ofonly three or four teams last spring, and Vanden Bosch signed withthe Titans.

Go check your old publications because I just did (didn't want to come off as schmuck :) ...)

KVB left after, not during 2004 and he backed up Zellner while Pace backed up Berry.

Still, the point is that KVB originally played LDE and Bert has been better for us than KVB would have been.
