Surprised we dont have a thread dedicated to this topic (I'll delete and discuss there if we do). Some of my friends think its a contination of the embarrassing "film study" clause.. I don't see it that way.

I think its a great idea and surprised more teams aren't doing this with their starters. Thoughts?

I have no problem with it. It probably helps keep the QB focused on the game to some extent. I'm sure most vets could care less about the ebb and flow of the preseason

Don’t see how anyone could see it as a bad thing?
the top comments on the NFL instagram post about it are generally negative. Was very surprised to see that.

"gotta get those 4 hours somehow"
"they checking to see if he knows the plays"
"he did his homework this week"

Maybe Murray sees it as getting to play Madden but with a live real football game. After all he is quite the gamer. Yes, it probably will do no harm and it may get him to learn the playbook better and understand to some extent why KK calls the plays he does however it still doesn't address the concern about Murray not studying the weekly opponent. Calling plays for your own team still doesn't equate to understanding the tendencies of your opponent.

That’s just poking fun imo and sorta warranted.

I think it's fine. Just like it was fine when Byron Leftwich was calling plays as an intern a few years ago.

I think the **narrative** is embarrassing -- in part because of a misstep by Kliff. The national media picked up on the comment "Well you go do it, big dog," and haven't let go of it since.

I believe it to be a greater learning experience for Kliff. There have been too many times the past 2 years when Kyler looked annoyed with the play calling. This way KK gets a much better idea as to what plays Murray likes & dislikes.

I think its origins were some mild rift between KK and K1 with communication issues/play calling as seen from sideline. There was some quote for KK on this earlier in camp. I think its good overall with the exception of it makes Kyler more ‘special’ in the lockerroom.

It is clearly a way to help develop a QB, like, calling audibles and whatnot, understanding game flow from the outside, etc. To consider that it could be embarrassing....well, no.

I think it is great and I'm surprised other teams have not done this over the years with their starting qbs. It really gives the qb a whole new positive experience that can only help him. Additionally, preseason games are meaningless and in the game's 2nd half you have the 3rd and 4th stringers playing. Great move by Kingsbury.

Bickley went further and played the quote where Kingsbury described how much he hates calling plays.

It's entirely possible that this is letting Kingsbury focus on the bottom of the roster so Kyler is acting as offensive coordinator to let him do that. It would not surprise me if Bidwill is preventing Kliff from getting an offensive coordinator to save money.

Michael isn’t THAT cheap. Now, that’s something his father would do for sure.

Wait, KK hates calling plays? Seriously? Then, like, why the flying EFF is the team set up the way it is? Ya know, so he has to call the plays? :bang: :bang: :bang:

Yeah I was surprised. Here I thought Kilff was too stubborn to let someone else call them

It's a brilliant move in my opinion and before anyone makes the dumbfounded acquisition that Kyler calls better plays than Kliff... remember the plays he's calling are drawn up by Kliff :)
