Is it a stretch to suggest Kyler has caused the retirement of two all-time great hall of famers in Fitz and JJ? That both might've stuck around another year or two, if not for Kyler?
Perhaps...
Who cares about Fitz....guy retired 5 years too late.

Now JJ Watt, that's a man who was dominant in old age.

Yea, I fully believe Kyler was the reason Larry became slow as molasses & caused atrial fibrillation to JJ’s heart. King Kong ain’t got sh** on Kyler.

I feel like the Bengals’ defense was the primary engine for that Super Bowl run. Burrow did his part & came up big vs KC & Burrow is clearly better than Kyler. Though, imagine getting sacked 9 times & still winning the game.

AJ three years ago was ABSOLUTLEY a walking corpse in Burrow's first year. He was injured for multiple season prior to Burrow showing up and was atrocious for the Bengals which is why they let him walk.

and which was why I was so against signing him as a FA two years ago.

And again, they had ZERO offensive linemen. no good TE. They had Higgins and Mixon. That was pretty much it. Then they added Chase (but again, he was injured a huge chunk of this year and Burrow was still aces.)
Higgins, Bernard, Mixon
Carlos Dunlap, Geno Atkins, Dre Kirkpatrick. Their defense was great. Not Ravens 2000 or Bears 84 great, but they were playing lights out.

All of these players could be built around.

Now you can make the excuse that there were injuries and yada yada, but AGAIN, the Bengals offense has missed key personnel in huge chunks and Burrow hasn't skipped a beat. All while having an awful O-line.

it's okay to just admit you're wrong every once in a while.
I don't mind admitting being wrong at all. I do quite often actually. You don't think they stockpiled talent, fine. I'm wrong.

You should look in the mirror before calling people out, especially about admitting being wrong.

I dunno. Cincy was seventh in points scored and 17th in points allowed in 2021. In the playoffs the defense didn't let up at all while the offense slowed against better competition.

None of these guys were on the Super Bowl team?

Lou Anarumo is one of the best DCs in the game, especially at adapting at halftime. I remember seeing a stat that they didn’t allow any 2nd half points for a long stretch of the season this year. That’s while being low in sacks as well.

I said they were stockpiling talent before Burrow got there. These players were on the team before Burrow got there.

Two things can be true:

1. This organization is a dumpster fire in basically every way and has failed not just Kyler but every other member of the team

2. Kyler needs to grow up.

The solution:

K1 and everyone else on the team deserve a chance to be coached and managed by actual adults who deserve said jobs. If they’re still not producing them you cut ties.
That’s our only choice. There is talent on this team. Unfortunately the team is built upside down. We need a strong head coach that willDEMAND Murray plays the NFL way. The offense is the easiest to fix ( my opinion). The offensive line if solved correctly and Murray responds to a new offense then we can at least compete and help the defense.

Lol… go find the JOSH MCCOWN is the Answer thread and tell me I don’t admit I’m wrong. Or the 180 I’ve done on Doncic over in the Suns forum. It just doesn’t happen that often… but when I am wrong, I usually make a spectacle of myself in the process because I don’t really care when I’m wrong.

Saying the PATHETIC nunber 1 in the draft Bengals had stock piled talent around Burrow when they got him is an argument bereft of evidence… especially compared to what the Cardinals did for Kyler grabbing HOF at WR, a perennial Pro Bowl TE, another 1000 yard WR.

And their defenses was GREAT? Lol… what? The year before they got Burrow their great defense was ranked 28th in league.

And the last three years they’ve been ranked 26th, 24th Last year on the run tk the Super Bowl, and this year they’re squarely in the middle.

where in the world are you getting your info from?

The original article was paywalled so I couldn't read it. The bit I did read it said Kyler was tired of losing and people were tired of his negativity. DId they mean negative about losing, or just negative in general?

I think JJ was more about A-Fib scare + baby being born = time to prioritize personal life over football life

I agree. Bummer for him he didn’t get a Super Bowl ring. But I think health and family took precedence. I look forward to his career after football. He’d be just as good if not better than Gronk on commercials. And he’d be better as an analyst than some of the guys already in the booth, especially Mark Sanchez. Or maybe a studio analyst. He seems to have a Strahan or Nate Burleson type personality.

what? NO ONE claimed the Bengals were "stacked" when he got there. AJ Green was one of his starting WRs, he had no offensive line. People were actually talking about his coach being on the hot seat after one season.

and this season, without Chase for a good chunk of it and a bad offensive line and injuries to Higgins, he has still been one of the best QBs in the league.

He's a guy who could have made every excuse in the book for failing... and he overcame all of them. That's what GREAT players do. They elevate the team around them.

Burrow had a HC that was favorite to be fired, the worst owner / GM in the league and an O line it was suicide to play behind.

Justin Herbert was also superb in a similar situation.

The Zac Taylor revisionist history is something else by the way. Not suggesting he’s a great coach but he did at least grind his way up the NFL coaching ranks. Not like he just got fired from his own middling alma mater 6 weeks before he was hired.

Zac Taylor was 2-14 and 4-12 his first 2 years. He was only "good" when he had a fully healthy Joe Burrow.

Its almost as if HCs are reliant on having a QB that plays well and can lead the team.

He's no better than Kliff. He just has Burrow.
