Unloading the slaries of RJ, Bautista, and Mantei would be awesome if they turned around and invested into quality depth.

Mantei is a FA and the Dbacks will be glad to get rid of his $8 million salary

He is contract-less after this year so makes no matter but his $5 million or whatever it is will fall back to the books and can be used to bolster this team. Heck. Lets get Pavano AND Clement and have a PEnny, Clement, Pavano, Webb, warm body rotation next year.

I said on another thread that apparently Gargaiola is basically using Finley to get a catcher. The Johnson trade will land us the pitching and batting we need.

Would he approve ANA over LA? Same locale but he basically gives up his shot at another Cy Young for this year when he could go to LA and still get it?

Looks like there is a sudden bidding war for Finley between the Dodgers and Padres. Evidently the Padres have massively upped their offer ... its now Nady, Vasquez, and others per ESPNews

With what I've seen, over the last 2 seasons, I'd say NO to a deal for X Nady...I think he's way overrated. He's a good bench player, ala Delucci, but that's about it. JMO.

According to ESPNews, he's someone we are trying to get along with Penny and others. Don't know if he would be in the actual deal though.

Also their is speculation the Padres deal for Fins is falling apart. "Vasquez won't be enough to get it done"

Deals also depend on whether or not the Dodgers are willing to increase their payroll (namely the last year of Randy's deal).

Honestly though, with the way Schmidt is going i dont think that RJ could get it, but you never know.
