I found this from RealGM...

Lakers to Announce Rudy T as Next Head Coach as Early as Next Week

Houston Chronicle: Rudy Tomjanovich will likely be named as the successor to the Phil Jackson throne in LA, barring any unusual circumstances.

Tomjanovich, a proven winner, will have his work cut out for him, inheriting a good team caught up in very turbulent times. If Rudy T is indeed named head coach, the team he has next week could be an entirely different team one month from now.

I hope the hiring of Rudy Tomjanovich means that Shaq is more likely to stay in LA

If that happens this drastically improves the chance of Kobe of leaving and coming to us

What do you guys think will happen?

I think if Shaq is still a Laker by July 15 , Kobe will be a Sun.

No way are those 2 playing together again. And Rudy T already expressed he wants to keep Shaq and talk with him.

and then knowing the suns luck at times, by the opening of training camp kobe will have been picked up by the new new expansion team the jailbirds. he will be playing with an allstar group from the prison systems across the united states. on the team with him will be jason williams, and calvin murphy. also froming up this team will be the 2000 to 2003 portland trailbrazer roster making this one of the favs to win the nba championship this year.

Is it me, or does Mitch Kupchak have no clue what he's doing? I feel like he makes decisions based on what the media says or if he's seen them on ESPN classic.

Payton and Malone! They must be great! We keep getting told we're picking Vujacic, so we may as well. Rudy Tomjanovich? I've heard of him!

Rudy T was never that great of a coach. Watch those old Rockets-Knicks finals games. It's like everybody's being constantly double teamed and nobody's ever open. He's adequate, but may very well be over the hill as a coach. I don't think Kupchak is capable of signing somebody that we on this board wouldn't have thought of, and have that player succeed.

Rudy took an average team with one superstar and won two championships. That is twice as many as Larry Brown has - which is about the only criteria most people look at.

I have to say I was not impressed with his coaching in recent years, but after reading all of the calls on this board to sign an experienced, successful coach, I can understand the decision. It is a "safe" pick. Picking an assistant coach like Jim Cleamons would be more of a gamble.

BTW, this probably means Cleamons will become the next coach at Ohio State.
