Landon Donovan is a prick

Saturday night's match between the L.A. Galaxy and New York Red Bulls actually lived up to the hype (well, the first half did, at least) with goals from Thierry Henry and Landon Donovan and some exceptional bits of skill. It even featured a few confrontations that could help foster the heated L.A. vs N.Y. rivalry that MLS has been praying for.

After the match, Red Bulls striker Luke Rodgers decided to take it all a step further and provided a few choice words about Landon Donovan's interactions with the referee. "The kid's a d***head," the former Notts County player said of Donovan. "I just think the kid's a f***ing prick."

When presented with Rodgers' comments through Twitter, Landon replied, "I'm confused, who is Luke Rogers?" Pretending not to know who he is AND intentionally spelling his name wrong? Burn!
Rodgers' full rant (via Metro Fanatic) right this way...

"In this league, he's a respected person, but he's telling **** to f**k off. The kid's a d***head. I don't care. I just think the kid's a f***ing prick."

"After Henry scored he's running the whole length of the pitch to shout at the linesman. He must have eyes like a hawk to tell if he's offsides. I tackled the keeper he's running whole length of the field to tell the ref I should be sent off. He needs to be a bit more humble."

"I just think he talks too much. You don't need to. Put it this way, someone like him, he's done OK for himself, played in MLS, scored a lot of goals, he's in all-star teams, played in the Premiership and I know people in the Premiership who say he's done really well when he was there. You've got people looking up to him, and he's trying to get people sent off."

"He is telling linemen off, shouting at referees. Is it one rule for him and one rule for the [r]est of us? He needs to be a bit more humble. He's just a bit annoying. Just a bit annoying when it's like you've got two referees on the pitch. He's running up to the referees telling him what decisions make. I've never ever seen nothing like that."

I'm not as knowledgeable of the MLS as some of you here, is there some type of rivalry brewing between these two teams?

Yeah there is...they are the 2 teams with the highest payrolls. Their game had the 4 highest paid players in MLS on the field at the same time (Beckham, Donovan, Henry & Marquez). Plus the NY VS LA (largest TV markets) angle is always played up.

Its a cleaned up version of the quote from the article. Mods wouldn't be too happy with me if i called him a D*** head, as the original quote says he was referred to as.

Considering that Rodgers never made it beyond the third highest league in England, it isn't surprising that nobody's ever heard of him.

Sounds like sour grapes to me. Just because some criminal calls him a name doesn't make it so, you could have found a better title for the thread like;

"Rodgers is a baby" or "MLS player/convicted criminal that nobody cares about is all mad because he got called on an illegal play by Landon Donovan."

This is pretty much the equivalent of if Early Doucet were to call Aaron Rodgers a "total a-hole." But that wouldn't happen because Early Doucet isn't a crybaby like this criminal.

People complaining and whining in soccer ?

NEVER.

Will never have respect for the sport, because of this ridiculousness.

I guess narcolepsy is rampant in soccer.

Err, why? Surely prick is just as bad. ******** sounds like something a little kid would say.

I like the fact the Rodgers was calling him a kid. Being a whole two months older than him.

I just saw video of the play, Donovan had a goal that was disallowed. I would be mad too at a game of this magnitude. Hypocritical much Luke?

common sense..

Since you seem to lack that you are digging yourself a hole.

I am betting that 1) you don't watch 3rd Division English Football and 2) you don't watch MLS because your arrogant "Germany is better than everybody" wee little mind doesn't allow you to.

I am not the biggest fan of MLS, but the quality of play is at least better than 3rd division Engurland play.

The MLS is not on the level of leagues such as the Brazilian or Swiss league and I can confidently say that those leagues are no better than the 2nd divisions of the Premier League or Bundesliga.

Of course I don't watch MLS, why would I want to watch low level soccer when I already have more soccer available than what I could possibly watch.

You lack the scope to judge this because I am sure you have absolutely no perspective of the quality of 2nd and 3rd divisions in England.

More brilliance from slinslin.
