Scary if true that Sarver has the potential to turn down a better deal for stupid reasons.

What better deal? I'd give up Ariza to avoid taking KCP on our team so I don't think there was much traction there. And no matter what the return, we were going to be lambasted for sending Ariza to LA.

Hard to imagine the Suns being involved in a deal that makes them look like idiots.

We did talk to the team and that's when it fell apart. Washington was acting as an intermediary and tried their best to get a deal done for a player they wanted. It was a communication screwup by them that fell apart after clarification.

My point is Washington should not have been acting as an intermediary. The Suns should have been doing their own due diligence.

If this tells us anything it's that there was no way a deal would have pleased some of this fickle fanbase. There seriously was no way that James Jones could trade Ariza for anything less than All-Star that would have made people happy. Doing the deal got him bashed and not doing the deal is now getting him bashed. Perhaps the problem isn't Jones so much as the expectations that some people have.

here comes poop head again, making up arguments that no one here has said, for reasons beyond me.

and now, I'm sure you will call me a ******** again for pointing that out.

Idk what a potential 3-way deal wouldn’t looked like but the fact that Sarver okay’d a deal that sent Steve Nash to LA but won’t send Ariza b/c of potential backlash??

I couldn’t care less about the Lakers as long as the Suns get the best deal. If Ariza going to LA wasn’t the best deal then that’s fine.

Rumor was the Lakers were only offering kcp and a 2nd. I doubt that was the best trade available but not by much

Sure, drink another one. When you sober up read this thread and see everyone who bashed the trade and then bashed Jones once the deal was killed.

If you'd been watching ESPN, TNT or the NBA Channel lately you'd maybe understand what we're talking about and why Sarver pulled LA from the conversation. We've been ridiculed more over the Jones/Lebron connection than we have for our horrible record. And LA was supposedly having trouble finding a 3rd party that had interest in KCP, fortunately we weren't stupid enough to take him ourselves.

Updating a previous item, Wayne Selden has not been traded to the Suns.

Good on the Suns for not getting Selden confused with Sheldon Williams. Jokes aside, it looked like he was just a throw-in player for the deal, so the Grizzlies management will have to reassure him that they still value him.

Might the Grizzlies have tried to do a switch at the last minute. Wizards thought it was Dillon Brooks.

Not really. One team or agent often ask for the ability to find a trade to work for everyone act as an intermediary. Then everything is normally clarified later when all parties get involved. However in this case, the trade leaked before that final step happened

I concur with this. If KCP and a second round pick were the best the Lakers could offer, I would rather keep Ariza for the season, even if it means just letting him remain inactive if he becomes a malcontent. The Lakers' second round pick is useless, as is KCP.

Some teams might do it that way, but that is not the smart way to conduct any kind of transactional business, let alone a basketball trade.
