LATTA — Things didn’t look particularly good for the Latta High School softball during most of their matchup with Davis Tuesday at the Lady Panther Classic.
The Lady Wolves jumped out to an early 6-0 lead and pushed their advantage to 10-1 through four complete innings.
However, coach Jeremy Bates watched his squad put together an improbable comeback, scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth and six more in the sixth to clip Davis 11-10.
There was far less drama for Latta in its second festival game — a 16-3 win over Plainview.
Latta, ranked No. 6 in Class 4A, improved to 10-4. Davis left town at an even 7-7 and the Class 5A Lady Indians also dropped to 7-7. The Lady Panthers are scheduled to host Class 5A Bristow at 5 p.m. Thursday
Latta 11, Davis 10
The Lady Panthers comeback got started with a Rylee Jones two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning. Lilli Hudson later belted a two-run double that got Latta within 10-5.
After Latta left the bases full of Lady Wolves in the top of the sixth, the rally continued in the bottom half of the inning.
The Lady Panthers opened the sixth frame with four consecutive singles by Ayzia Booth, Taryn Cotanny Taylor Cotanny and Jayse Smith to produce the first run.
Savannah Senkel knocked in another run with a one-out base hit to get Latta within 10-7.
Audrey Forshay then cracked a two-run double to center field and Senkel raced home on an error during the play that tied the game at 10-10. Forshay raced home on a sacrifice fly by Kieranie Williams to give Latta its first lead of the game.
Davis went quietly in the top of the seventh and Latta polished off the victory.
Booth and Jones had three hits each in a 19-hit LHS barrage. Both went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored and Jones finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
Forshay ended up 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a walk and two runs scored and Senkel finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Hudson finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Stacie Williams and Taylor Cotanny added two hits each.
Davis piled up 15 hits in the contest, led by Kensley Barnes who went 2-for-4 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs scored. Kamryn Martin finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Mattie Morton ended up 2-for-4 with a double, four RBIs and a run scored. Kadyn Griffin finished 3-for-3 and scored a run for the Lady Wolves.
Latta 16, Plainview 3
The Lady Panthers put the game away with nine runs in the bottom of the second inning to build a quick 13-1 lead.

Taryn Cotanny went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs and Audrey Forshay went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Rylee Jones had two hits, including a double, drove in a run and scored twice from the top of the LHS lineup.
Landree Upshaw cracked a two-run homer for Plainview, who finished with six total hits.
Stonewall rolls at Coleman Festival
COLEMAN — The Stonewall Lady Longhorns scored 33 runs in seven innings en route to a pair of victories Tuesday at the Coleman Festival.
Stonewall knocked off the host Lady Wildcats 18-6 in the opener before pushing past Pittsburg 15-3 in Game 2.
Coach Shanna Sanders’ club climbed back to .500 at 7-7 with the two wins. Coleman, ranked No. 10 in Class B, fell to 7-6 and Pittsburg dipped to 5-10.
The Lady Longhorns are at the Tishomingo Festival this evening where they’ll battle the host Lady Indians (No. 15 in Class 4A) and local foe Stratford (No. 10 in Class 4A).
Stonewall heads to the Byng Festival Friday where they’ll face the host Lady Pirates and Class 5A Shawnee.
Stonewall 18, Coleman 6
The Lady Longhorns took charge right from the start with a nine-run outburst in the top of the first inning.
Lily Wyche continued her season-long tear at the plate. She finished 3-for-3 with a home run, a walk, four RBIs and three runs scored from the top of the SHS lineup.
Mariyah Reeves finished 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs in the 14-hit Stonewall offense and Kaylee Ross ended up 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Mea Cortez also hit a double in a 2-for-3 showing that included a walk, two RBIs and two runs scored. Kadyn Sutton also had two hits, walked once, knocked in two runs and scored a run for the visitors and Rez Anderson went 1-for-1 with two walks, an RBI and two runs scored.
Taylen Wisdom belted a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning for Coleman and Raylee Holder finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Abbi Anderson went 1-for-1 with two walks and an RBI for the home team.
Stonewall 15, Pittsburg 3
It was a case of déjà vu for the Lady Longhorns who again scored nine runs in the first inning.
Landree Dye finished 3-for-3 with four RBIs and a run scored in a 10-hit SHS offense. Lilly Wyche again refused to make an out, going 2-for-2 with a triple, a double, a walk, three RBIs and three runs scored. Wyche is now off to a 27-of-33 start at the plate through 14 games and has crushed 10 home runs.
Rez Anderson cracked a pair of doubles for the Lady Longhorns and went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Mea Cortez finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored and Abby Deck went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.
The Lady Panthers collected five hits from five different players Paige Barron finished 1-for-2 with two RBIs and Emma Garrison had a hit and drove in a run for Pittsburg.
Stratford chops down Little Axe
NORMAN — The Stratford High School softball team swept past Little Axe during a Tuesday night road doubleheader.
The Lady Bulldogs ran away from Little Axe 17-3 in the opener before shutting out the Lady Indians 13-0 in Game 2.
Coach Tony Prichard’s bunch — ranked No. 15 in Class 4A — improved to 15-5 on the year. Stratford joins Stonewall tonight at the Tishomingo Festival and will welcome Class 4A No. 1 Dale and Prague to town for a three-way Friday night.
Stratford 17, Little Axe 3
Little Axe led 3-2 before Stratford exploded for 15 runs in the top of the third inning.
Gemma Carotenuti, Kennedy Layton, Tinley Dempsey, Callie Sandlin and Kortni Green all had two hits apiece in a 13-hit SHS offense. Carotenuti finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs, Layton went 2-for-3 with a walk and scored three times, Dempsey finished 2-for-2 with a double, a walk, two RBIs and a run scored, Sandlin went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored and Green ended up 2-for2 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored.
Haylee Dickerson went 1-for3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored and Hannah Lester also slapped a double, knocked in a run and scored three runs for the locals.
Audrey Maggard went 2-for-2 with an RBI to pace Little Axe at the plate.

The Lady Bulldogs pulled away with six runs in the top of the third inning.
Hannah Lester and Gemma Carotenuti paced the SHS offense with two hits each. Lester finished 2-for-3 with a triple, an RBI and two runs scored and Carotenuti went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Ryleigh Ardery went 1-for-1 with a walk, a double and scored twice for Stratford and Tinsley Dempsey also double and scored a run.
Mckenlie Hatton went 1-for-1 with two runs scored for the Lady Bulldogs and Caylea Schwagel finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Little Axe came up with just two hits — singles by Kenzie Pierce and Alexis Hokit.
No. 8 Tupelo shuts out Vanoss
VANOSS — The Vanoss Lady Wolves never got untracked at the plate in a 3-0 home loss to Tupelo Tuesday night.
Tupelo, ranked No. 8 in Class A, improved to 7-2 while Class 3A Vanoss slipped to 2-13.
Tupelo treks to the Atoka Festival today to battle the host Lady Wampus Cats and Calera. The Lady Wolves host Wayne and Healdton in a three-way today.
Tupelo 3, Vanoss 0
Tupelo got on the scoreboard first in the top of the second inning when Liz Sliger cracked a triple to center field and scored on a groundout by Keira Miller.
In the top of the third inning, Lainee Wafford belted a two-out, RBI double to put the visitors on top 2-0.
The Lady Tigers added one final insurance run in the top of the seventh inning when Jaylee Tailor grounded into a fielder’s choice with the bases loaded, allowing Miller to race home and make it 3-0. Vanoss escaped further damage by turning a double play to end the inning.
The Lady Wolves tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh. Kaydence Griffin and Avery Wilson both had base hits to lead off the frame before Tupelo recorded two quick outs. Miller walked to load the bases but D Carlos flied out to center field to end that VHS threat.
