China? That was ages ago. Perhaps you haven't been following the news this year... Steve Nash helped light the Olympic flame and the world saw this Canadian hero. The Spanish speaking world (you realize there are Latin countries south of the the United States, right?) has seen Los Suns brought to their front pages. Stern is about world domination. He already has China. He wants more.
Furthermore, I have been living in Los Angeles for the past 17 years. So your "Arizonans" quip is impotent.
The Summer and Winter Olympics aren't even comparable man. Nice try though. Yeah, Canadians love them some Nash, and he still didn't get the demigod status that Kobe did in China.
The Spanish speaking world (you do realize there are spanish speaking countries, like Spain) enjoys Pau. "Los Suns" isn't such a big deal outside of Phoenix Sunsland. The rest of the southern countries are reading about people having to show their papers in Arizona, not some hokey suns jersey and some local PR before a cinco de mayo game. Really now, "Los Suns" isn't drawing a crowd. I would be willing to bet the Lakers are VASTLY more popular in Central/South American countries.
If you ran a poll in the US, the Lakers would probably finish first in the most hated and most loved team, at the same time. Stern would wet himself for a Lakers vs. Lakers finals, and would rig it that way if he could figure out how.
Your "I've been living in LA" comeback is limp...LA is Lakers territory, and definitely NOT what you were meaning when you threw out that basketball watching world comment. You meant Phoenix Suns fans, and that's cool. But the Lakers are internationally popular...no two ways around that.
