Instead of focusing on coaching spots and people, I'd rather take a long look at where we've gotten better and where we suck - and then determine what we need to do to become a good football team once again.

Starting off with creative play calling on both sides of the ball. We need a creative and aggressive HC, OC and DC.

Personnel-wise:

Our biggest strength is our pass rush. I wouldn't mess with that.

A huge defensive weakness is that we cave against the run. Either we need a better teacher as D-line coach or bigger, stronger guys on the front 7.

Why is it so tough for us to find/develop a #2 CB? Find the right guy, teach the right guy or replace the DB coach

Goal at RB - Three pile-drivers on the active roster (It's a collision position). .We let Penny get away. We're one injury away from a non-DJ backfield.

TE position is teetering on the edge of obscurity.

OL play is a bit flighty.

It's too early to predict whether Rosen wii be "the man" but there's no reason to believe he won't. Stay the course - improve the play calling. Give him a more secure supporting cast.

Rebuild WR - size, quickness, speed, hands - we're lacking across the board. Acquire dominant athletes in at least one aspect of play (i.e. jump ball winner, home-run hitter, beast, route runner - be good at at least one thing).

Product should be a fast, aggressive team offensively and defensively who plays smart and whose players don't back away from a street fight one on one.

Leftwich was a Coach QB in his late active seasons, Leftwich knows the offene of: Arians, Smith, Whisenhunt, Haley, Musgrave, Hue Jackson and McCoy

He knows plenty of Football and probably is more accustomed to help a young #1 rounder to bloom, as he himself was a #1 rounder that played well his first two years but than ... got destroyed by a bad franchise.

For interim, in my view the only right choice can be Byron Leftwich as OC, he is young, he is knowledgable and he could be a guy that can be an up and comer.

I just can't see Leftwich having enough experience to be able to be a OC yet. Maybe he can but I wouldn't do it. The play calling on offense has improved the past two games so maybe McCoy can do better. If we do fire McCoy I would bring in somebody with a decent amount of experience and that has had success. We need some stability on this team with coaches that know what they are doing and that have been coaching for years. Some of the problem we are having now is we have coaches that don't have any experience and they are learning on the job namely Wilks and Holcomb. They are both in their first years at their positions and it is showing.

If they fire McCoy they need to have an interim OC from one of the coaches already on the team like Leftwich. No good OC is available during the season. You are not going to introduce a new playbook at this time. The hope would be just to be more creative.

I think you can have Leftwich call plays on game day without being the oc. It wouldn't hurt to give him a shot for a game & see how he does. He should be somewhat knowledgeable reading defenses being a former QB.

I would put some money on Troy Rothenbuhler as interim OC, he is not attached to a position coach right now and has several years play calling experience in college.

Another thing is McCoy could be good at designing plays but terrible at calling the correct ones against a defense.
