Why would Lienart be grinning?

The guy lost his job to an UD RFA who is struggling. That' not exactly something I would put on my resume.

That reflects on how great Whiz is at evaluating and making decisions. Most teams are set days before a season starts. he wasn't going to get a 2nd string job or a starter's job off the bat without knowing the playbook.

And losing his job to a struggling UDFA is not a reflection on him but how bad Whiz picks and chooses players. Remember, this is the guy who said stats don't matter when choosing who he his starter was. How is that working out for whiz? How about Hall? What coach in this league gives the a UDFA the keys to the car so early in the season? Has he outplayed leinart in any of his games?

Naw, 3rd string is nothing to put on a resume, I agree, but Whiz also has something to worry about, too. His decisions at the QB position has him claiming one of the worst offenses in the league. The worst when you look at all the average rankings...And these are Whiz's handpicked people. By this fact alone, Leinart should be grinning. It proves Whiz's decisions are all questionable which also puts into question that the decision to cut leinart was a bad one also.

To say all of Whis decisions are ignorant IS an ignorant statement. He has done a solid job. 1 mistake does not make him a bad coach. He was looking for a spark that he thought Mac could provide...he was wrong.

This is a cluster ...yes..., but Cards are in the race.

To assume I said ALL of Whiz's decisions are ignorant is an ignorant statement. What I did say was that his decisions at the QB position have been bad. So you mean to tell me that he has had success at that position?

We are at the bottom of the barrel in all offensive rankings!

We have only scored 1 TD in the last 13 qtrs! Off a fumble buy Minumus!

Tell me Whiz got something right by making one of the worst QB's in the league the last 2 seasons his starter? Tell me signing and starting a bench QB was the right move. Hell, tell me anything whiz has done right at that position...ANYTHING! make me a believer, please!

No, Whiz has Minumus as the starter for next week. he is the starter.

Mostly I am a die hard Whiz fan but he's neck deep in doo doo on this fiasco and that's what it is a fiasco.

Whiz does not know how to evaluate QB talent. What trumps everything else in my book is bringing in the worst QB in the league and thinking he could revive his career and make him and this team successful. The ultimate epic fail in my book.

Yeah it was terrible when he recommended drafting Ben Rothelisberger. He had no idea how to judge his QB talent.

I suppose that was just a fluke?

Link? I'm not saying it didn't happen, but I haven't heard that story before.

I know that Roethlisberger was a great talent when he came out of Miami (OH), and he certainly seems undervalued now (that 2004 draft class was amazing). There were people here (Russ Smith? Maybe Krang?) who thought the Cards should take him.

It's rare that you see a draft class where 9 of the top 10 picks become solid NFL players or better, and 13 of the top 15.

I don't think Leinart is grinning. But I think he knows that he would be playing better in the Cardinals' system than Anderson and Hall. Yes, he failed to show he was "the quarterback of the future." But with our solid defense, all we needed was someone to move the ball and not to f things up. I think he would have done that.

It's certainly hard to tell if Leinart is grinning from his official photo on he Texans' website.

I guess if anyone catches him grinning or laughing, take a picture for them. They obviously don't care enough about him to waste their time taking a photo of him. Probably filled up the memory card on the Orlovsky pics...

Even not playing and not having a photo Leinart's doing better than MiniMax and DeWreck.

I obviously dont have a link from 2004. But as QB coach and later Offensive coordinator, wouldnt it stand to reason he had something to do with drafting Ben Roethlisberger?

I was a big proponent of Big Ben...but then, I was also a big proponent of Cutler (assuming Leinart was going to be gone).

Meh. Depends on the team. The Steelers have a really strong front office that has generational experience evaluating talent and rarely misses on players in the draft--especially with high picks. They also had a long-time head coach with some authority over personnel matters.

I'm sure that he got a lot of input into it, but as a first-year coordinator elevated from tight ends coach (not quarterbacks coach) with the departure of Mike Mularkey, I doubt that Ken Whisenhunt had the authority to pull the trigger on a Top 15 quarterback. I think the most you can say is that he didn't stand in the way of drafting Ben Roethlisberger, but it's difficult to say that he "recommended" him to be drafted.

Again, it's stunning that a former tight end and former tight ends coach has so little idea about how to use tight ends.

I guess.

I cant give him full credit of course. But I would assume he had some say so in it. Either way, I dont think the arguement that he cant "evaluate QB talent" is valid either. In fact letting Leinart go may have proven that he can evaluate talent. :D

It could but Brian St.Incompletion, DeWreck Anderson, and MiniMax Hall say different.

Based on what Whiz decided to go with this season? The swagger and moxie is just killing me. :D

We're going to swagger ourselves into irrelevancy.

Of course, he's grinning.

He's young, he's rich, he's not getting sacked five times a day, he's not bleeding internally, and he's no longer seeing "Matt Leinart Sucks" forum threads.

Some of that will change if he ever again starts an NFL game but what are the odds of that?

I'd say fairly good from what I saw from QBs across the NFL yesterday.

If Matt is smiling, I am glad he isn't here. I think he could have done better than DA or Hall, but that is all coulda woulda shoulda mixed with a gallon of if. His desire to be successful should trump any thing going on here. But he is probably smiling, instead of busting his ass to be the #2 QB over there.

I don't think Matt is grinning, Matt had confidence and still does in himself. He's a quality NFL QB, I seen it on the field every chance Matt got. He's disgusted if anything, and relieved to be out of the QB arm pit of the NFL.

Its on the coach, Whiz chose this. If you don't think Fitz would be a top performer with Matt Leinart and Beanie right now, I don't know what to say?

April Fools maybe?

Pure Speculation on your part! The Steelers have one of the strongest front offices and GMs in the league to suggest that KW had any part of that decision is speculative at best, especially considering Whiz did not think much of Big Ben and purposefully ran an offense to keep the ball out of his hands most of the season.

Whiz has NOT shown the ability to pick a good QB, Kurt Warner was here when he got here and it did not take a genius to see KW beat out Leinart in camp (not to mention former superbowl winning MVP QB's are a pretty safe bet). Whiz has yet to pick a QB that has done anything. We will now see what this coach is made of when he can't ride the players that were already here when he got here, and so far not looking so great!

Actually, Whisenhunt wanted Rivers over Roethlisberger and Kevin Colbert utimately talked Cowher in to buying that Roethlisberger would be a better fit for the Steelers.

Rivers was already picked. Really, you couldn't have gone wrong with any of the top 3 QBs in that draft. Unlike the one where we had our pick of two of the top 3 quarterbacks.
