Matt's got a chip on his shoulder hearing the pud-dits saying he's a bust 1st round pick, et al, so he's got alot to prove to more than just himself and the Cards.. I hope he comes in here in 2011 and tears it up, figuratively!

Nobody but nobody here slammed Leinart sooner or harder than me. I was proven mostly right. So what?

What matters is what Matt has done to turn himself from spoiled Diva into a pro. I like what I've read about him the last 18 months. I like his weight room work and strength and bulk gains. His pouting has disappeared. If his statements in the media are sincere, Matt has matured in time to save his career.

We need him. I'm pulling for him.

That's debatable! ;)

Next year, Leinart gets like a 15M roster bonus, which does count towards the cap. They'd better have a plan for that, because if they don't.....

You know as well as I do that we dont.

Cant we re structure him, would that help?

It would, but Matty has little incentive to do it. Teams know that there is still a ton of untapped talent there and he is gonna get a big payday one way or another. That situation will turn out very similar to the Fitz deal last year IMO. Hopefully Matty performs well and earns it, because if/after he restructures, he'll be one of the top 5 paid QBs in the game.

MD, will the FO pay it or will they try and lowball him..?

They'll have to pay. The Cards will be fortunate to get one more year out of Warner, two is imo a real longshot. So its either pay Leinart (or even more for a top rookie QB) or go back to the days of Jeff Blake and Josh McCown after this season.

I gotta agree. I like that we resigned Kurt. He deserved it. Still, I agree with DJ ... I will be surprised if we get two good years out of him. Age eventually takes its toll.

I believe Matt will get his chance and will make a lot of people have a nice meal of crow.

Really? You really believe that? From what I hear Matt has spending his free time back in SoCal.. Kinda throws this theory out the window..

I heard him interviewed by Jurecki and Bickley today. Jurecki gushed about how hard he's been working and how the coaches are talking about him. They say he's much stronger, and that includes more zip on his passes.

I can hardly wait until the preseason games to see what he's got. With our improved offense maybe he will get more chances this year than last.

Thats nice to hear.

But I still think the part of his game that needs the most work is reading and reacting to defenses and knowing where all his receivers are at all times. If you don't know where to throw then it doesn't matter how strong you are, you are just lost.

Yep. He also talked about how helpful it was to watch Kurt do just that.

As crazy as this sounds the best case scenario is for Kurt to miss 2-3 games for whatever reason and Matt comes in and plays well.

Otherwise thats going to be alot of Jack thrown at a guy that your loving in practice and the preseason and haven't seen play in live game action in almost 3 years.

We will see. Things like this tend to work themselves out.

I believe. Always have.

The reason would be that the division had already been locked up and we're resting Warner for the playoffs. ;)

I think it was more that Warner realized that "open for Larry isn't open for most receivers" and started throwing the ball to Fitz where only an incredibly gifted guy like Fitzgerald could catch it. Leinart didn't get that.

In the NFL a QB can't wait for a guy to be clear before throwing the ball. They have to learn to throw the ball into coverage but to a spot where only their guy can catch it.

That article gives me some more faith in Leinart, at least at this point he could step in as a very serviceable backup. I think he has the tools to be a great QB for us, it's all about his dedication now. Glad to hear he is "growing up" according to Whiz.
