Whisenhunt should definitely get some credit for the culture change. The Cards had to believe they could win before they did win. Selecting Marc Trestman as OC was huge. It would take too much space here to cover why Whiz failed.

That said IMO Warner was far and away the reason the year was Super. None of the Execs thought Warner would start; they wanted a mentor. Warner had the receivers he needed and was one of the best QBs ever at reading defenses and using hot reads. Except for Peyton, no other QB of this era would have taken that team to the big game.

To me this is the bottom line:

Leinart: Rookie season= Good QB.

After injuries and Whis= Lack of Confidence and work ethic manifested itself in supreme suckitude.

Whis= Great Coach with established veteran players.

After Warner= Stubborness, nepotism, and lack of ability to DEVELOP players manifested itself in supreme suckitude.

First year Good QB?

Less than 57% completion % more INts then TDs and a QB rating in the low 70s??? Leading the team to a whopping 5-11?

I don't know anything about that that is good. But hey more power to you. He showed some promise here and there. But so did Double Deuce. He never earned the right to be called good.

His 3 teams since and being completely out of the league already post Whiz proves he was just NEVER good! Yet guys like Derek Anderson still collect a paycheck in the NFL.

9 different QBs have led* the Cardinals to 5-11. Including Jim Hart, Neil Lomax and Kurt Warner.

5-11 with 'em. 5-11 without 'em.

*Team's leading passer, yards, that season gets blamed. :)
