Arizona is far from convinced that Matt Leinart is its short- or long-term answer at quarterback.

His work ethic and commitment continue to be questioned, I’m told by sources in the Cardinals building.

It would surprise me if Leinart is the starter on opening day, especially if the team is able to sign Charlie Whitehurst from the Chargers.

Whitehurst is a hard worker, dedicated teammate and willing to pay the price to be a starter in the NFL.

Who's National Football Post?

Who specifically in the Cardinal organization took Leinart to task for lack of commitment/work ethic?

In other words, is the dude from NFLP regurgitating CW or something he heard a year ago? Or does he have something new or revealing to tell us?

What I have heard "specifically" is that 2 or 3 times the issue was raised with Wiz in interviews, he complimented Matt for working hard on and off the field to improve himself.

I realize that coach-speak often means playing back "the company song" to reporters (i.e. keep your dirty laundary inside the facility) but, without a specific source from NFLP, I'd be more inclined to trust what Wiz says.

"I’m told by sources in the Cardinals building"....

How reliable are these types of "sources". If the "sources" are at all reliable then this is a pretty scathing comment on Matt.....comments were from Michael Lombardi supposedly....

I didn't know you could questions someone's work ethic when there are no mandatory activities, especially when it is already a well known fact that Leinart is already working out while almost everyone else is on vacation still. I heard Fitz is spending time with his family, maybe the media should infer that he is lazy from that one too.

Michael Lombardi is a Leinart hater, and demonstrates it each time the name comes up. He deliberately ignores all supportive statements from Whiz regarding Leinart's dedication and effort.

PS: Should say, however, I generally like his input on the NFL Network.

Well... He is on record as saying "*maybe* I'll work even harder this year."

So are you suggesting his "sources" are really just that he's a Matt hater? Just curious if this has any merit to it at all.....

Not buying this. Matt OFFICIALLY on the record stated 'My time is now!'
he's not going to follow that up with not getting prepped.

Not buying this story one bit.

Jay Glazer from Fox was on the radio a few weeks ago. He's friends with Leinart's MMA-type trainer and he said that Matt has been working out harder than he ever has and that he's never been more motivated.

A little blip in an article that starts with Sully Sullenburger and includes mention of Deepak Chopra...

Take it for what it is worth - Nothing!

The only clue I have about what the Cards staff thinks comes from the mount of Whiz which I read a week or so ago. He said Matt would compete with a QB we would sign. He made no mention of who or if we were actively looking or what. Clearly we need to sign a QB who has been a starter in the NFL at some point in his life. Even if Matt pans out he could get hurt and I do not think many of us have confidence in the two backups we have. I do hope we sign someone soon as the best available QB's will obviously go first.

What backups?
