I don't know if SD would consider Leonard a top drawer LT. I like Leonard but in exchange for our franchise QB?

"The Chargers could choose to sign Drew Brees to a long-term deal and keep Philip Rivers for emergencies. Yet both Brees and Rivers believe the town won't be big enough for both of them in 2006, and the Chargers might be disposed to deal if they could land a top-drawer left tackle and/or a cornerback who occasionally plays the ball."

Take away the best player on our offensive line? Why on earth would we consider this? SD will want more than just Big anyway? There is no way that I could see this happening.

Why not stop shopping around for a new QB and settle with Kurt Warner. He is a proven talent. END OF STORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's crazy. Kurt is a good QB but I don't see him playing at a high enough level for more than two years. What you are proposing is going into next season status quo at QB. What happens if and when Kurt gets hurt?

Trading Davis is crazy........our O-Line needs him. Warner is a serviceable QB for the next 2 years.....we can pick up a potential QBOF in 2007.......there will be at least five really good ones (Young, Jacobs, Quinn, Stanton and Keller)

I agree, keep Big and fix other areas of the line and Kurt can get it done with our Wr for the next three years. Groom someone for after that. Kurt is the Man.

One thing I think that goes overlooked is that if Kurt is successful here that a new QB will be almost estactic to come here and learn instead of getting pitched in the fire game one.

I am hoping Brady Quinn comes out, he could easily fall to us if we don't win too many more games.

He'd be the perfect solution.

Brady Quinn...

Is a legitimate stud QB. He is big, strong, smart and does a great job reading the field and making things happen. He may even be a more NFL-ready QB than Lienart in the right system. He is running an NFL system now and he has picked it up very quickly under Weis. I would love to see him fall to us or when he decides to stay at ND we can trade UP for him next year!

Quinn will stay for his senior year. He's got a chance at the National Championship and the Heisman and he's smart enough to realize that he really needs a showcase year before he's ready for the NFL, especially another one under Weis.

As good as Brees is playing San Diego would be foolish to trade him for an uproven rookie. The fans would revolt at least I would if I were one.

Go with Warner for a couple of years until we can either draft a good prospect or sign a FA talent without trading one of the few good lineman we have.

I think everyone does including those of us who like Warner. They are not easy to find. We have passed on a couple in the draft that proved to be good QB's and it may be a while before we draft high enough to get a top rated QB in the draft. We will need to get lucky and get one in one not so highly rated that pans out.

This is exactly the attitude that has to GO. This is the pervasive attitude every single year, and not to be insulting, but it makes zero sense. Let's wait another year...the grass will be greener. Meanwhile, we continue year after year without our QBOF. How about we become pro-active and get our QBOF NOW, in THIS offseason? *gasp* Shocking concept.

Stout,

So who do you see as a QBOF in this year's draft other than Leinart who we will not have a shot at......or in FA that will not cost a 1st or 2nd round pick?

Gotta disagree Stout. Yes, you are right about needing to get one. I think the point spanky, myself, and others are trying to make is that Warner will work for one more year and that after Leinart there is a serious drop in QB talent. If this draft was loaded with QB's like I believe next years will be I'd have to agree with you.

Fix the more major problems this year (both lines) fix the QB next.

I disagree. The attitude you're describing is exactly the same attitude the 49ers had during last years draft. They decided to get the "QBOF" in Alex Smith instead of getting a #1 reciever or a std RB. Alex Smith would not even be mentioned in the same breath as Leinart, Quin or even Young. Smith was smart to come out when he did. No way would he be considered a top 25 talent this year and he knew it.

I like Warner and hope he stays in AZ, but to suggest he would even be healthy enough for another 3 years is stretching it in my book. We got one solid year left with him imo and we better make a point of finding the QBOF in the draft or free agency this off season.

Whether it is Rivers, Young, Lienhert or frank the mailman, this position has been ignored long enough. If we continue with Warner you will see a n awful lot of John Navarre next year.

edit: you didint say 3 years did you? woops my bad. someone said it in the thread.

Trade Davis? No thanks.

But, in response to Bobcat's question: as has been pointed out, Warner is not going to grow with this team. He's on the decline and is an excellent QB to have for the next one or two years while a young kid sits and learns ala Steve McNair or Carson Palmer. Neither of those guys played their rookie year.

He certainly isnt worth waiting on in the *hopes* that you can somehow get him in 07. In the meantime this team will drown in losses and I can almost guarantee you whoever brings "waiting for Quinn" up to the Brass while opening the new stadium with a 3-13 season, will be fired!

LVCARDFREAK,

Who said anything about the Cards should wait for Quinn in '07.......my post only said that Quinn is unlikely to declare this year. Talk about twisting a post into something that was neither said nor implied.
