Will DA ever win a NBA title as coach? Not with his current style of short rotation and light practices. He might be the best coach to never win the title, but that's not what Suns want, hence the divorce.

Okay, let's try to resolve this issue. I'm projecting D'Antoni wins a Championship before the Suns. Sorry I really don't believe in betting that's why I used the word "project." I wish the NBA referees felt the same way.:D

One thing about D'Antoni, if you think about it there have only been a handful of big things in Phoenix Suns history that were cared about nation wide. He brought SSOL for its good and bad it pulled Phoenix from absolute irrelevancy.

Personally I don't buy the hype on paper, I think we are likely headed back to the lady called malaise. Sure Porter is going to talk about all the things fans and Kerr want to hear; Defense, bench, The next level...it will be instant gratification for frustrated Suns optimists.. but if you think Porter will not bring a whole new set of flaws to the table, you are going to be disappointed yet again and guess what no one cares about Porter, he is going to clone the Spurs or Pistons and if the Suns win it all they will likely be less relevant historically than SSOL. They will be the one term President in the mid 19th century that everyone forgets about in grade school.

The "right coach" is not some unique concept and pretending D'Antoni was the main problem with this team is totally ignoring or forgetting the serious flaws our paper championship team and happens to 20 plus NBA cities year after year. Look at the trend, the older our leader gets the worse the team gets, those my friends are the facts.

Well, that would mean that Porter never would win a championship.;) We'll see.

While I'm not at all confident the Suns will win anything of significance under Porter, I can all but guarantee that the only championship that D'Antoni wins from here on out is perhaps another Euro championship after he gets chased out of NY in four years and heads back to Italy.

D'Antoni was (and still is, apparently) the most overrated NBA coach of recent memory, and will be exposed as just such under the glaring white lights of New York.

Injuries happen. Celtics apparently are well prepared for this as evidenced in their finals performance. DA's Suns weren't. That's the system failure, my friend!

We have a core of Amare/Nash/Shaq that's a little below Pierce/KG/Allen but above Kobe/Gasol/Odom. Our secondaries of Hill/Diaw/Bell/LB/Giricek are IMO better than both of the finals teams. I believe with Rivers this team plus some adequate marginal FA moves and trades in the manner of the House and Posey ones of the Celtics, we could win. DA was right in one assertion: Our team were more talented than Spurs which eliminated us two years in a roll. All we need is the right coach and right small trades.

Without the late season pickups of PJ Brown and cassel, the celtics lose this finals due to injury. The celtics bench is WAY better than the suns bench, and the VETS came in and produced. Call it what you want, but suspensions are not a system failure and neither is microfracture or losing JJ to FA. No comparable events occurred in the celtics organization, but their injuries this year were not catastrophic ONLY due to a deep bench. The starting C goes out due to injury and PJ comes in and plays smart D. The starting PG sprains his ankle, and Cassel comes in. The celtics 3 pty shooters were WAY better than the suns, not even close. House and posey were huge in this series. When the lakers doubled down low, House and posey(and Allen) killed them. When the spurs clogged the lane against the suns, blown 3 pt shots. The suns roster had no chance to win this year, it was too unbalanced. Suns fans who think its the coach are delusional, Doc friggin Rivers killed the "best coach in the NBA", or was it his players? All the know it alls saying the big mismatch was in coaching, how pathetically wrong can they be? The big mismatch was in interior defense, and in smart defense. I guess unless people admit PJ didnt have much to work with, PJ is a lousy defensive coach as there were tons of open shots on the perimeter all series long. Frankly I am of the mind that the lakers were defensively inferior personnel wise and that was the difference, no coach can make up for those stupid lousy euro defenders(sasha, radman, gasol). Sasha REPEATEDLY left Ray Allen alone to double an inferior offensive player, LOL. Do we blame this on PJ as a stupid defensive coach? That would be like blaming DA for amares poor defense.
