I can't believe we are in September and in the middle of a crazy playoff race and the state of Arizona is having trouble rallying around this group of Dbacks. What, because 3tv doesnt run those annoying "smack, crack, I love my diamondback" commercials anymore, suddenly no one cares that Arizona is one of the best teams in baseball? The team is great to watch... Chris Young is nasty, Byrnes is a maniac, Webb is the best pitcher in baseball, Micah Owings might as well be Babe Ruth, Doug Davis found his stuff, Orlando Hudson is the best defensive infielder in baseball, Upton is the future of baseball, Jose Valverde might just be the craziest man in baseball, and Bob Melvin does stupid unpredicatable managerial moves that you want to scream at him for but they amazingly work more than not.

Yeah we have the second worse batting average in the majors as a team... .247 and the lowest OBP at .316, but this team is swiping bases at an extremely successful rate. We also have more shutouts and saves than anyone else in baseball meaning these games are exciting and we are winning. Come on, if you live in Phoenix... GET TO THE GAMES, these boys need the fans more than ever with a slim 1 game lead over the Padres with only september left.

We have series left against the STL, SF, LA, PIT, and COL... DO WORK DIAMONDBACKS!!!

Love the enthusiasm dude... A bit overplayed with the "entire state of AZ not behind this team" though...

Also, try to be real buddy... Upton has a ton to learn and do before he can be discussed as the "future of baseball"... He got off to a great start - offensively, and has trailed off bigtime since. Not unexpected however. Just hope he continues to learn and make progress.

Young is very good, but definitely not "nasty"...
Byrnes is fun for sure!
Micah shows a ton of promise, but lacks consistency (something that is needed in order for this team to truly be successful).
Davis is solid most of the time. Nothing more than that... which is fine...
Love Hudson. Hope he's a D-back for a long time to come!
Valverde is having a freakish year... Is this a total anomaly or is there the real Jose?
And Webb is truly amazing! Not sure about the best pitcher in baseball however. I think Mr. Beckett and Mr. Wang might have something to say about that...

The D-backs will be a force to deal with in the post season, ONLY because they can pitch and catch it as good as anyone... If they had a more consistent offense, they would be serious contenders for a World Series ring... But it should be fun nonetheless!

Unless we pick up two starting pitchers next year (one if Randy can be one) and move Micah to RF. :)

do work baby do work...and 82CardsGrad, Mr. Wang shouldn't be in the same sentence as Mr. Beckett and Sir Brandon Webb, and thats with the fact that i hate the Bo Sox, Verlander should be ahead of Wang

Forgot about Verlander. But IMO, Wang is right up there as well... Beckett is #1, Webb #2, Verlander #3 and Wang #4...

Mr. Wang wouldn't have anything to say about being the best pitcher in baseball unless Jake Peavy, Johan Santana, and a bunch of others just decided to spontaneously retire.

I love the dbacks and have been rooting for them all season long I hope they can run the table and make the playoffs :) We have a really good future with our young hitters in Upton and Young and our pitching staff is also really good a lot better then I thought it would be this year. But just a great season overall by the dbacks whatever happens they have been real fun to watch

Peavy and Santana are awesome pitchers. The best in baseball? Nah.... Nor is Wang really, but as I've said, he's right there with all who have been named.

Good luck finding very many outside of homer-rific New York that will say that Wang is anywhere near Johan Santana's level, a guy that has unanimously won 2 Cy Young awards and has a good chance to win a third this year.

a little unrealistic i may say. Sure the D-backs are a good team. they probably have the best team chemistry in baseball from what i've seen this year, but i've seen more D-backs games than any other. byrnes is definitely the player i would want my son to watch. I am surprised that the D-backs aren't getting more support though. It's unusual to see a team doing this well and not have the full support from the fans. As far as hudson.....he is a great defensive 2B. but there are other great infielders in the league as well. HOFER Omar vizquel is still alive and well to name one. and the list could go on. but hudson definitely is at or near the top when it comes to defensive 2B

If i had to pick a pitcher for my team, santana would be first and peavy would be second. I don't know what SD was thinking pitching him on 3 days rest though. it's not world series time yet.

Brandon Webb is the best pitcher in baseball. If he hadnt been on the Dbacks for the last few seasons, he would already ahve close to 100 wins...

here is his season by season ERA....
2003... 28 starts, 2.84 ERA, 10 Wins Good job on run support
2004...35 starts, 3.59 ERA, 7 Wins, down year with alot of walks, but again, no run support...
2005... 33 starts, 3.54 ERA, 14 wins, should be in the 16 range though...
2006...33 starts, 3.10 ERa, 16 wins, should be in the 18 range...

he has a career 3.21 ERA and is only six games over .500 after 158 starts... that is horrible run support. He is the best pitcher in baseball IMO.

and as far as Young... HE IS NASTY, both defensively, at the plate, and on the basepaths, and if you think otherwise, you are looking at stats too much, because he has been the catalyst of this team in the second half.

look at santana's era, record, strikeouts, over the last few seasons. It is better than webb. also coming on a team that doesn't give him a lot of run support, especially this season. all of this and santana doesn't get the daunting task of pitching to a pitcher every night. Let's put webb in the AL and see if he can keep that ERA down. Peavy will win the Cy young anyway in the NL proving that webb is not a better pitcher this season. and you can't say peavy has better run support.

I know man! Not sure what it is but here are a couple of theories.

1. - Team colors, uniforms changed. Also ownership changed. Seperated some folks, but they'll come back. Just taking some fans longer to accept it. Us hard core fans already have, but regular folks take longer. lol

2. - Young team and unknown player personalities that fans haven't quite identified with yet and/or believe they will really do anything this season. No Gonzo, no Grace, no Matt Williams, no Randy Johnson, no Finley, no Curt Schilling, etc....

3. - Record heat this summer in Phoenix. Yeah I know the stadium is air-conditioned, but people get home from work and wanna stay home (myself included). The walk from the car to the stadium is asking too much. lol

Anyways...

those are some lame reasons. the weekend games should be sold-out given the size of this market......heck even much smaller markets sale out games. I'm disappointed in the arizona fans. This team is much better to watch when compared to many other teams out there. they play the game the right way......which is probably why they win as much as they do despite the youth. I haven't watched the D-backs as much now since the start of football and I'm also working nights now. are there any sale-outs yet?

How about some better reasons...

1. Minor leagues stacked with outfield talent. Large extension given to a fundamentally unsound player.

2. Pitching staff cobbled together but doing just enough to keep the team in it. Management ignores this opportunity and forgoes more offense. Team goes nowhere - struggles against terrible teams/pitchers.

3. 162 games. 100 different lineups. Players must struggle as much as the fans to know who's on first, etc.

4. Big acquisitions to attract attention and to let fans know that the team is serious - Kim, Kennedy, and Cirillo.

Who are you?

Lots of pessimism for the 1st place team. There was not a starting pitcher that we could have gotten that would have really helped us and it was way too big of a price for Teixera or another power hitter for just a half season of work. The team was not one big name player away from winning it so there's not reason to put the team in another financial hole before the young players start to develop. I'd rather keep Byrnes and have a chance at Hudson than overspend for a short rental when the AL champion is just going to be far more talented than we would be. The Diamondbacks are a couple more off-seasons away from being real championship contenders.

And I'd much rather see Byrnes out there with Upton and Young than the "stacked outfield talent" of Quentin, Gonzalez and Salazer. Two 4th outfielders and one unknown.

I suggest you enjoy the incredible season they are putting together right now.

i agree 100%. The D-backs could use a guy like Tex in their lineup, but they would of had to part with something in return. This team finds ways to win and again they play the game the right way. I just don't see why there aren't more fans here that want to enjoy this. Maybe things will change come playoff time.

They might be "lame" reasons, but that's the general "cross-sction" from the non-hard core fans. At least that's what I've heard all season long from dozens of co-workers, etc. It's no biggie though...people will "discover" this team in the playoffs and depending on how they do will = how many people will be in the stands next year.

byrnes is definitely one of the best players to watch in the league. if not the best player to watch. He got screwed out of the all star game. How is a guy who hits .300, scores that many runs, steals that many bases, knocks that many runs in, and makes that many plays in the OF not an all-star. and why is he not at least mentioned as an MVP candidate? If derek jeter gets mentioned for being the best overall player on his team(last year), why can't byrnes get at least a mention from the media? Baseball is B.S. now. Not many play the game like it should be played anymore. Fans and media types are warmer to players that stare at their fly-balls and that IMO is why baseball is not as exciting as it once was. Having said all of this, I am not an arizona fan. I am completely neutral and unbiased on this issue. Did you guys see him tonight? steals second and third and then scores on a sac-fly. How great is that. another guy I would compare him to is jose reyes. He does a lot of the same things for the mets.
