I agree. I just think there was no player at #7 that the Suns were intersted in.

The SUns are already the youngest team in the league, they don't need another young project right now. There may be a good player available at #7 but there is nobody that will come in and make a big impact this year.

This is the way I'm looking at it. They aren't in love with anybody they expect to be there at #7. Chicago made them a very good deal, and supposedly they have taken it. They still get one of the top picks in the second round, so they aren't completely out of the draft. They got some money to offset the cost of moving Jahidi White.

I just don't see the problem with this deal. We are talking about a draft pick, not an established NBA player.

Agree, Jo Ma

The Suns get hamstrung by salaries... and some of you rip them for being short-sighted.

The rid themselves of the salary-cancer and some of you still rip them.

This franchise is not CHEAP. They will do whatever it takes to bring talent in here. It's been that way for a long time.

Look at all the former players still in the organization. PHX is a great destination if you're an NBA player.

July 1st is right around the corner... and I'll guarantee you the brain-trust is waiting by the phone ready to start-a-dialin'.

Some of you better copy and print this post... it's going to come in handy when I said I told you so.

I hope so, I'l take TMac or Kobe.

Serious Question: Does anybody on the Suns roster have the same agents as Kobe?

I ask this because this is one way that the Suns could find out about Kobe's plans in FA.

Jahadi White did. Kobe's agent said that through White, he heard Phx was an awesome place. He talked about how happy Jahadi was there, and he loved the organization even with his future in serious doubt (this was still during the season).

I think the agent talked about another player's reaction th ohx, but I cannot remember who.

Wasn't Kobe's father very close (still dont know if he is) w/D'Antoni? Now since Kobe isnt "property" of the Lakers, I bet D'Antoni will suade Kobes father to get involved with the negotiation process to a certain extent....

Kobe is a SFX client

Milos is also a SFX client. TMac is also a SFX client

Although they have different agents. TMac's agent is Arn Thellem I think.

I have been on record for weeks saying that I prefer to trade the #7 pick. Unfortunately, this isn't exactly what I had in mind.

I agree! This is a sign that something is cooking.

Every weird move the Suns have made since January has been heralded as "a sign that something is cooking." So far, nothing has been. I may get proved wrong, but it doesn't look like they have a plan at all, other than to "increase flexibility for the future," the novelty of which is starting to wear off.

"going forward" is the Suns-speak term. I swear they all use it about 5 times in every interview.

Its sad but true. I hate to admit it because I am the ultimate Suns optimist, but BC has only talked about $ after every trade since fall. There has been nothing said about improving the quality of the product. He could at least give us some hope that he really does want to win a game or two.

Maybe it was the best deal available. For a couple of months the Suns have said they did not want to get younger and wanted to trade for a veteran help or for future picks. Due to the weak draft, no one wanted to give starters for the players available at #7 so they went for the future pick and the cap space.

Was there REALLY a better offer? Based on what they were saying a month ago, no one wanted to give any kind of future pick much less one that could that high in the draft.

Just a minute, I've got to find my rose colored glasses... there now.

There actually might be a plan to this.

1. Orlando might have its eye on a player or two, and would be willing to do the McGrady trade for Marion, Chicago's #1 next year, and a player that slips to #31. Let's say someone like Telfair or Ramos. Maybe even Pavel goes into a free fall like Lampe did last year. Every year a pretty good prospect gets drafted in that range. Last year it was Barbosa.

2. The Suns have actually been working out guys that are projected to go in this range. They might have their eye on one that they want. It would not make sense to take such a player at #7, when you can take him at #31 and get a pick for next year out of it.

I would much rather wait on a draft pick, being we are sooo young as it is...

Also I would much rather have Vujanic over here than draft some unknown at #7...

IMO its a good deal. We NEED to get veterans.

Here's another possibility for what has transpired this year.

The Suns wanted to take MA but they also saw the possibility of needing the #7 pick in a trade for TMac so they didn't want to give MA a guarantee. So when Orlando put off accepting an offer and Chicago wanted to trade their next years pick for #7 the Suns jumped at it so they'd have a better chance at getting MA next year - with two lotto picks to work with they'd have a chance to trade up if that were needed. I know it shows a lot more foresight than we have come to expect from the Suns but it sure fits with a lot that has gone on... the down side, should it be true, is that MA will still be MA next year.

elindholm gets it. So do a few others. It's all about not paying big salaries. Nothing else. Sad day. And if I'm proven wrong, I'll show up and take my medicine.

no it isnt, it is about putting out a team that will win in the near future. next summer, joe johnson's contact is going to be up for being reuped. i think you are going to see that going for something like 7-9 million based on how he at the end of the season. and then the big one the year after, in amare you are talking about a max contract (25% of the cap). both kobe and tmac would have gotten something around 30-35% (guess) with their new contract. then building the roll players around them, average salery around the nba right now is 5 something million dallors right now. you can see even without kobe or tmac that this teams salery cap is going to be going up by leaps and bounds.

now lets say we take the path that a lot of you wont like for this summer.

nash 9 million salery
okur 7 million
mcdyess 2 million
will no other signing the team is already over the cap.

then they bring milos in next year and lets say the 4th pick in the draft and resigning jj, we are about 7 to 9 million over the cap. the year after eisley is gone but we resign amare bring us to around 17-18 million over the cap and that is if we dont sign lampe who will be a free agent with bird rights that year. then the next year zarko and barbosa will be up for new contacts and maybe milos agian.
